  • As organized religion loses its “market share” among traditionally religious societies, Humanism is on the rise and is one of the fastest growing movements and life philosophies in the world today. While many who consider themselves “religious” are largely unfamiliar with the origins, history, and beliefs of the movement often called Secular Humanism, the growth of this philosophy is such that all should seek to better understand its core characteristics. Listen to this short episode to learn more about the Humanist movement and its approach to life and religiosity.

    Summary:
    - Focus on humans creating their own reality (no divine fate)
    - Individual and collective wellbeing, instead of spiritual/religious
    - Scientific approaches and discoveries
    - Humans over other things, humans as ends

    I'm Catholic and I think that helping others is the right thing to do. I don't help others out of religious reasons, but because I'm a good and caring person. I respect the freedom of others too. I think that each person should define the meaning of life as their own. Each person has their own purpose and meaning that they give themselves. I think *you* give meaning to your life. Humanism is the belief that we as humans are the sum total of all morality and rationality, the belief in ourselves as thinking, rational and critical creatures who can create a moral, just and stable society without (or in spite of) religious teachings and beliefs.
    Humanism is simply the love of humanity and the optimistic belief in our individual and collective intellect, that the we as humans are capable of bettering ourselves and others.
    Humanism is the acceptance and self awareness of our own flaws whilst optimistically aspiring towards goodness and through the balance of these distinct dichotomies can we achieve divinity: a divinity not of utter and immaculate perfection and immortality but a divinity of self awareness and co-eternal and continuous improvement of us as a species and society.
    Humanism is nothing more or less than the celebration of the human experience and our coming to terms with the human condition.
    Because of this true humanism isn't about the marginalisation of religion but as one of its facets, it is the acceptance of religion as part of the human experience and condition; a symptom of our flaws and aspirations as a species.

  • @RHope7
    @RHope7 Před 2 lety +3

    When it comes to building on human abilities the goal runs into its antithesis, namely Narcissism. As this is supernaturally backed, persuasion becomes obsolete as a luxurious civility.
    It is useful to motivate such as the world transformation movement, but the character of human goal can only be stabilised by the truth of prophesy that life is ultimately owned and judged by a spiritual God. It takes supernature to counter the temptation and intolerance of the selfish and intolerant as no doubt we shall soon experience. Humanism will become a memory of civilised intellectual freedom until it is dealt with by a Spirit reality few had FAITH in.
    Motive is either a Spirit or Selfish energy life form as a product of the supreme SELF. Prophesy is never wrong, you have to choose before you are deluded by the comparative. The overstanders misuse and outopress the understanders without evolutionary circumspect. It only requires the glamour and determination of a Corona ME (myopic existence) over the WE (wisdom existence) that humanism would like to see. The WE can only triumph under faith and influence as democracy is only a fragile value of strength to the better mind.
    God bless endeavourers.

    Interestingly the idea of humanism started as a pure Christian thought and philosophy by the reformers both Zwingli and Erasmus. It is based on what Jesus said that he came to give life and and higher life. This is life amongst humanity to love one another, and to care for one another, and to pursue peace amongst ourself, etc. , the question has worldly humanism achieved that, and has evangelical Christianity understood that? The answer unfortunately is neither.

The Italian Rennaissance was one of many renaissances that were started since the Medieval Period. Second, humanism as a specific school of thought did not start with the Greeks and Romans. It was thinkers like Petrarch and Erasmus and others who were operating out of a Christian frame work that was also influenced by Scholasticism.
