That trumpet player on the right comes real close to the Louis Armstrong sound and technique on West end Blues. Great band and musicians! Band sounds real authentic [ the sax section using authentic vibrato of the era rather than just playing the notes] as does the vocalist, dressed for the era and playing the part as well as singing in the correct style in fine voice...

There is a famous picture of Enrico meeting Louis, when E. was a child. He's awesome. The singer, however....always the weak link in trad Jazz bands.

I agree with an earlier comment that stated the trumpet brings the power and feel to Louis's lines from the 1928 recording. Spot on.

A bit later than Diexieland (late 1910s/early-mid 1920s) -- I would say more late 1920s/early 1930s. But very good indeed.

There are actually five songs here: "West End Blues" (Louis Armstrong, 1928); "You Can't Get to Heaven That Way" (Noble Sissle, 1930), "You Turned the Tables on Me" (Benny Goodman, 1936), "Singing the Blues" (Bix Beiderbecke and Frank Trumbauer, 1927), and :Bashful Baby" (Been Pollack with Goodman and Jack Teagarden, 1929). A couple of mistakes: Bill Challis was the original arranger on "Singing the Blues" and he based the opening sax ensemble on Frank Trumbauer's solo from the original record in 1927. And the vocal on Ben Pollack's 1929 record of "Bashful Baby" was by Harold "Scrappy" Lambert, not Pollack himself.

Blues from my head to my shoes so blue today
I've got a mean evil feelin', And I'm full of gin
I’ve going to the West End and there's where troubles will begin
My man, my man, low-down mean hound
In town with my best friend running around
Soon the undertaker man gonna knock upon his door
Folks in West End, folks in West End,they gonna see some shootin'
    Like they've never seen before
my man and my best friend ain’t go the West End no more 🎺🎺🎺

You turned the tables on me
And now I'm falling for you
You turned the tables on me
    I can't believe that it's true
I always thought when you brought
    The lovely present you bought
Why hadn't you brought me more?
But now if you'd come I'd welcome anything
From the five and ten cent store
You used to call me the top
You put me up on a throne
You let me fall with a drop
And now I'm out on my own
But after thinking it over and over
I got what was coming to me
Just like the sting of a bee
You turned the tables on me
