- Here I show you what steps I take to shut a bike up. I only want to hear suspension dampers, tires, and brakes. All other noise is Un necessary... Even freehub clicking đ€Ł
Have a great day people. God bless!
You are a genius my bike is totally quiet now
Heck yeah! Stoked to help!
@Michel Chebret tell me if it works
Thank you. I tried it with a rubber ring from a gas cooking bottle because I couldn't find such a small washer for the bolt to fit into the hole in the bracket axle unit. I have a Shimano saint rd-m810 and the mount is a bit different, but the important thing is that it works the way it should work.
I actually did this on accident when I was first getting into mountain bikes. I thought it was wrong that my derailleur didn't clamp all the way down on the Hanger, so I placed a washer between it and the frame. I didn't know any better at the time, but It worked, so I left it like that. Completely forgot about it until just now haha!
Hey just wanna say thanks for the tips, I've did it on my xtr derailleur and notice significant difference on chain slap, before I used to run stiffer clutch to counter the chain slap but in return I also end up with harder shifting and chain wear. Now with your method, I can run lighter adjustment on my cluth and still have less chain slap plus now I got better shifting too. Btw, I got a pack of 50pcs nylon washer for couple of dollars and it works fine too. Cheers...
That's awesome! So glad I could help
Perfectly done your a wizard man!!
You're a Wizaaaaad! đ€Ł
Thanks guys!
Just did it myself on SLX 12 Speed... simply amazing!
Heck yeah! Crazy, this is spreading around like a wildfire đ€Ł
great video, good tip. I use silicone fusing tape for my cockpit cable mgmt. cheap and really clean look, even comes in different colors.
great little tipp, I'm looking forward to see if it works, thanks man
You betcha!
This will go Viral in the MTB cummunity soon
đ€đ€đ€
Amazing....this will solve my most annoying noise.
Love the faster than you reference.
that is brilliant!
Just a suggestion: when describing something like this [e.g. "shock spacer"] show us a shock mount and point out the spacer so there's no confusion for the veiwer. I definitely want to try this hack!
You'll need an m10 washer đ 1 or 2mm thick is perfect! Nice and thin
nice clip đ€
Thanks for doing this for us đ
Yewwwww
legend
How much does shock spacer cost and how much mm is the one you installed?
Take a shot every time he says booyaa
lol can I do this on a 3X8 specifically for an acera 8 speed?
Has anyone did done the same with Shimano ZEE Rear Derailleur 10-speed RD-M640-SS ? It has very different system.. (
Good stuff here! What method are you using for getting the correct chain length?
Same way as any other bike... đ€ Whatcha mean
@@collinmcballin I wanted to confirm the technique, ie remove air from shock, wrap around large sprocket, add 2 links (4 1/2 links).
@@johnwilliamson9453 oh woah... I've never done anything like that before...
Noticed the new sram derailleur use a different bolt system. Have you tried to do this with a newer one?
Yup just read the comments đđ»
Can u put a link to the shock spacer/washer thing that you used for the Sram deraileur!
as i said, its just an ordinary shock spacer! Thinner the better đđ»
After I removed the spacers, in what position am I supposed to tighten the derailleur? At the lowest? Or it doesnât matter?
Make sure it's bumped up against b tension screw. Your adjustments don't need to be changed. Install it as normal but hold the derailleur in place so it doesn't rotate while tightening đ
Just applied the hack to my GX and thrilled it seems to work awesome. Just wondering if you've found that it comes loose after riding or if it holds pretty well? Is there a torque range that you've found works best?
Awesome to hear! No bike is too cheap, or too expensive to still need some custom magic! đ
Yeah this spread around real quick! đ
I check it every ride just out of curiosity. Nothing has moved at all. 10-12nm on my PT tw5.2 does the trick! I went 3 rides without checking it, and it was still holding good.
I have AXS now on my XTR grouppo, Amazing mix. I guess the axs mech is SUUUUPER strict on NOT greasing threads and using proper torque on that bolt etc etc.... I sent it anyway with a custom washer haha, I mean hey, it my stuff and I paid for it! That way I can tell other people if it works or not đ
@@collinmcballin how do you fish that cable foam into the chainstay for the rear mech?
@@thenbuck9 it not hard actually! Just a little back and fourth with the cable, while holding the foam and/or sliding it.
@@collinmcballin hi I have just moved to axs from xt 12 and find it has so much more chain slap have you found a way to hack the type 3 clutch on sram to make it have more effect on dampening chain strap?
@@joenoddes yes and no. I got the same thing when I mix/match from XTR. Send me a message on Instagram and I'll share some photos. More clutch force= poor shifting, high wear, short part life, and noticible more suspension friction especially on high chain growth platforms. So, we need to get rid on the SOUND (without affecting those things) not necessarily the chainslap(Derailleur clutch) .. If that makes sense? Anyway, shoot me a message I'll give you an idea.
I made a video but it never finished and posted it. Still here to help though!
Hey everyone, does anayone of you know which diameter for the spacer is needed on a Shimano Deraileur?
Does this work in the sram 1x12 NX
Will a steel spacer work? Also how wide is the spacer you used?
Yep, thin as possible to retain thread on Derailleur mount bolt. I have a few buddies that got a washer from home depot. Shock spacer works best
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
What exact spacer is it that you used. Ordered a dps metric travel spacer .360 and it didnât work for my xt
Just the thinnest aluminum shock spacer you can get!
I have a tackle box full of stuff
Hey thanks for the tips! What's the spacer size? Or the bolt size? M8 or M10?
Yup! Happy to help!
Man, lots of people asking about the spacer. Idk It's just a shock bushing spacer, same thing you'd find in a fox or sram bushing kit đđ» I have a bunch in my spare parts drawer so I didn't have to source any parts. Thinner the better đ
@@collinmcballin Yeah It's just confusing because most of the shock spacers are M6 or M8 and I still have to measure it but it looks like the derailleur bolt is more like M10. I just want to make sure to not buy a bushing kit for nothing. I guess any type of aluminium or brass washer would work.
@@renaudquertainmont5401 yep! Sweet let me know what works for ya!
@@collinmcballin Havn't tested it yet but I bought an aluminium washer kit for car oil drain bolt. Needed M12 (16mm OD - 1mm thick) and fits perfectly on my Sram GX Eagle.
Also, what is "hall lock". It's a term I've never heard before.
TRP hall lock, John Hall (mechanic) came up with it a few years back. Www.google.com you can search TRP hall lock
i cant seem to get the little thing that holds the b tension braket off
That's a little vague haha. What Derailleur? And What 'little thing...' đ€
Hey man, sorry to bother, but what kind of shock spacer is it i can't find one
You ever find out what shock spacer? Lemme know
so is this doable on a sram axs mech too??
I'd think so. BUT I've noticed on srams axs derailleur installation instructions that they are very picky on how you install the der.
Also the spring is reversed on the cage. - the spring pulls derailleur to spokes rather than frame. Probably helps with efficiency of those electronic motor/gears.
I can't give you a safe answer but feel free to try!
Hi again! I have AXS now on my XTR grouppo. Looks like you're gonna have to customize the spacer to fit properly in the machining of derailleur. I've had it on a few rides now. There's a bunch of sleeves and o-rings to watch out for when you take the bolt out. Working well so far
Collin Timmermans thanks man any tutorial type vid like this one or some instructions and Iâll get it done :)
@@collinmcballin Are you removing said sleeves and orings on the AXS when you add the aluminum washer? Also, where exactly can I get a proper washer for the AXS?
@@JerrySpallone heyo! Okay. I have AXS now as you know (on my XTR grouppo obviously)
You don't need anything, file down the cylindrical washer to 14.05-14.1mm and you're good to go!
Is it a singlespeed conversion or not? Please help?
I don't know if I should reply or not haha
Can you still shift? Cause i cant imagine that this works?
Yeah totally, single speed conversion
@@collinmcballin really? Oof
@@schmidt5988 that was a joke
@@crocker7687 yeye ik if been running this setup since months. Sooooo good đ€€đ
@@schmidt5988 yeah, I'll probably do it myself aswell
so every time i take the wheel out, i loosen the der bolt???
Yes and no. I don't need to on a sram derailleur because it had that cage lock feature
@@collinmcballin
I also have sram and i always twist the der. backwards when i remove or install the wheel, offcourse with the cage locked...
