  • The Mariners offense is on a historically poor pace.. while simultaneously having one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. Who will the Mariners be trading away at the deadline? Who will they bring in? Do the Mariners need to head another direction with coaching?

I’m not, we have amazing chemistry and stellar fielding and pitching. We have a lineup that can just randomly explode and break records as long as you stop hating on them. We just need to force ownership to spend all the $300 jersey and $16 beer money

  • @drewyanuszeski7931

This is more on our ownership too. They let Teo go because he would cost to much, and refused to sign anyone in FA the past two years that is truly an impact. I consider myself a fair weather fan who will show up if they preform and I really want to come back… but their MO feels like they would rather trade for someone and give up good prospects, than go and get someone legit in the off-season because they are afraid of spending money. Didn’t our GM say 54% is their goal or something like that?
It feels like the HR is more valued in today’s game, but didn’t we win 116 by playing small ball? T-Mobile park is built for guys who can get on base to succeed, but we live and die by the long ball that struggles to get out of our park.
That being said, I’d want Vlad, upgrade at first base or DH and a proven legit hitter for average and can pack the power, but his average impressed me more. Love the content!

Whoever they do trade for, I think they need to have at least some track record of having success hitting at T-Mobile.
Teo’s comments about not being comfortable at the park was very eye opening and explained why his home/away splits were so drastic. The pitcher looked sideways to him and he couldn’t track the ball well. Vs Nelson Cruz who signed here as a FA specifically because he COULD see the ball well. Theres something there.
Garver was like 0-31/34 at T-Mobile on his career - struggled.
Winker, Wong and Frazier were coming from NL teams and had All Star years before coming to Seattle and really didn’t play here - struggled and all three had better splits away then they did at home.

Kerry Carpenter would be a massive upgrade. Only has three career games but he’s hitting like .455 with a 1.725 OPS.

I’m in a bit of a dilemma with this team, on one hand I don’t want to punt the season because of how good our pitching is, but on the other hand I don’t know that the deadline will fix this team without Julio/JP/Cal/Garver figuring it out.
I think I would ideally like to see a legit star added with some club control (Vlad, Roberts, etc) along with maybe one average bat with some control (Hoerner), and then 2 rentals (Bellinger, Pham, Walker).
Think this gives you the best mix of adding some legit talent to the core for a push the next two years, while supplementing the roster this year at a low enough cost that you don’t make a big dent into the #2 farm system in baseball.
My only semi-untouchable is celesten. If he’s included for Robert’s or Vlad then whatever, but I don’t want him thrown in for someone like Hoerner or rentals. His upside is just through the roof good.

  • @coachmullen1
    @coachmullen1 Před 16 dny

The offense has been bad all season. It's not a new problem, nor is it worse than it was.
They got lucky, or an optimist might say they had clutch moments that secured a lot of unnecessarily close victories.
The bottom line is that Urias gave us exactly what should have been expected. Haniger has given us exactly what we should have expected.
We expected more from Garver and Polanco, but how much more would've been realistic? Not many players come here and have better than ever numbers.
Raley has given us more than I imagined he would, but for the Mariners, that's a horrible success rate from their off-season "upgrades".
Jerry gets credit for acquiring great pitching talents. He gets the blame for giving Kelenic away, and putting together an abysmal offensive team.
I wonder if he AAA roster couldn't produce the exact same offensive results if they switched places.
I want to see Bliss at 2B. I want to see Rojas finish games without being pinch-hit for. I want two new corner outfielders and a new 1B. And I want a DH who deserves the role.
Maybe Garver comes to life... Maybe Haniger hits better if he doesn't need to run around in the OF anymore...
I believe Julio will grow and mature, hopefully soon enough to make a difference this season...
But my question is, can we trade for everything we need? I think the answer is no. Therefore, don't emit l empty the farm system this season.
Jerry and the ownership need to admit they failed to recognize that this was the year they should have gone for it. The 54% theory only works if you recognize your moment. They failed last off-season.
Keep the prospects, and pray that the guys they brought in turn the corner now that the summer heat is here.

  • @coachmullen1
    @coachmullen1 Před 16 dny

To make it simple, the Mariners have bad swing planes. They drop their barrels below the pitch plane, and then need to get the barrel back up to the ball, and the result is abundant pop-ups and strikeouts.
I assume the effort is to increase launch angles. I hate that approach. We've seen the results for the past few years.

There is no reason to think the mariners are in a must win situation right now. Buyers at trade deadline typically lose those trades. The smart thing to do is sell at the trade deadline. The mariners could trade Hancock or Evans and get a nice haul. Baltimore needs pitchers. The mariners should be talking to Baltimore who has some good bats that could start this year.

    • @TheCouchGM
      @TheCouchGM  Před 15 dny

The no brainer move for the Orioles is to get Crochet from the White Sox. 2.5 years of an elite arm, and they have the farm to do it. Hancock and Evans would be too high risk for them to win with now.
Mariners are closer every day/ year to losing their elite starting pitching and guys getting more expensive.. they really do need to go for it these next couple years. They do have the bats in the farm to extend their window, but it’s time

@@TheCouchGM Gilbert isn’t a free agent until 2028. And the other pitchers are later. Especially if they don’t trade Hancock, Evans, Morales and other pitchers in their farm system. So they have pitching around for a while. Julio isn’t a free agent until 2031. Explain why we have to win now?
This current teams foundation is built through players that came up from their farm system. If they finish above .500 this year it will only be the second time in franchise history they have gone above 500 4 years in a row and assuming they continue to lead the division and go the playoffs the last three years will account for 1/3 of all mariners playoff appearances. And if you want to win a World Series your odds go way up if you make the playoffs. Point being what is the logic in reverting back to strategies of 15 years ago of trying to “win now” when the grow the team is working way better?

Trade for Vlad - Harry Ford, Tai Peete and one positional player off the active roster. Dom or France. Any mix of those 3 vets or prospects unless they want a low level pitch could work.
Pray the Mets start sinking and you can trade for JD Martinez for Garver and maybe 1 mid/ 1 lower or 2 lower prospects for a real DH.
DO NOT TRADE FOR JIZZ CHISHOLM. His team hates him. The players hate him. The Mariners have always been about family, brotherhood and everyone getting along. No need for a cancer in the locker room.
Haniger needs to be replaced but not sure there is a trade out there that would fit. Would love to hear ideas. And dont say the Angels, they wont trade with Jerry to help him win.
DFA Polanco and put Bliss and Moore at 2B.
JP Rojas Julio Vlad JD Raleigh Raley Bliss Dom/Haniger(unless your trade for a OF)
I have a sneaking suspicion that Jerry will not trade for a relief arm. He will say that we got Santos and Spiers back at the midseason point and that is as good as a trade. He will say their arms are fresh ... blah blah blah. Go listen to an old interview from midseason trade deadlines and you will get the gist.
They will run out Garver once a week as a catcher. Big mistake, he is to fragile. Go trade away a low prospect for someone out of the race and their backup catcher that wont wilt when hit by a ball. Cal needs a break and rest a little more than once a week.
Now I am going to make an appt with my shrink and talk out all of this because none of it will happen and will be walking the line shaking my head at the sorry ass ownership.

I think Santos coming back, Devinski signing, Speier coming back will be their bullpen plays.
Curious if they get crazy and use Hancock in a trade to reduce top prospects traded, use Logan Evans as a fill in SP if needed.

Here is another name that I think is being looked over. The Ms need a good infielder, if they get a 3B they could mover Rojas back to 2B.
I think the ultimate goal down the road is that Colt and Cole up in 2 years to fill in the infield.
So my proposal is a Blue Jay and not Vlad or Bichette. Isiah Kiner-Falefa - who has another year on the contract. Can play 2B/SS/3B. Doesnt strikeout a much and gets on base. Only 7.5 mill this year and next.
Not a big cost. I definitely this better than the Nico option.
For the outfield there has been talk by Jim Bowden that the Ms have reached out on Bellinger, Chisholm, and Robert. I think Bellinger is the cheapest deal with his opt out contract. The numbers of these 3 are similar but Bellinger plays everyday. He is the obvious choice.
The Isiah and Cody trades would both be cheap.
I am still all over JD Martinez also. I would trade 11-20 prospect with Garver for him or two lower prospects. I am sure a couple of dollars are going to have to go back to the Mets. But do you want another 1.5 yrs of Garver batting less than .200...
All of this still leaves you wide open to keep your top ten prospects and if they can work a deal without using Colt, Cole, Felnin for a deal with Vlad then we are all in.
Sorry for the rambling but look up the 3 OF stats and compare, look up Kiner-Falefa stats and make a legit trade in your head and let me know.
