This song touched me on another level. Ever since I sang it in a special state-wide choir, I've been in love with it
We sang this in high school at least 8 years ago. I still remember every note.
I remember this song from high school as well, about that long ago too. I loved this song.
Stunning performance, frasing is sublime, vocals are beautifully based on swelling tones, pianist and choir are a unity, the best for me on CZcams, congratulations to the conductor

This is so exceptionally beautiful; the most peaceful and moving version I've ever heard of this song.

Nu pas hebben we met ons koor in de Ardennen dit wondermooie lied geleerd en opgevoerd.Ik moet terugdenken aan een woord van Augustinus : "veel te laat heb ik U liefgehad". De uitvoering is prachtig met de sobere piano. Ik zou dit graag horen als ik sterf, maar Liljan zegt dat wij het even mooi zingen en dus wil ik nog lang leven om het te laten klinken.

Wonderful performance. Very homogeneous. Very good pronunciation (I am German and would be happy if I could sing Verdi half as good).

Die Stimme ist gut. Gutes hohes g. Aber in allen Videos wird deutlich: zu kurzer Atem, am Ende der Phrasen ist die Stimme nicht in der Resonanz, das Vibrato flattert sehr oft unangenehm ziegenbockartig, die Vokale stimmen sehr oft nicht (keine Unterscheidung zwischen offenen und geschlossenen Vokalen, das A ist kein A und geht zu sehr in ein dunkles O.) Und obwohl ich ein Freund bin von fließenden Tempi, ein Meister des Rhythmus war Fischer-Dieskau, hier sind die Tempi meist überhastet insbesondere in "O Tod", die Kraft der Musik geht verloren und Herr Rim kann nicht mehr in Ruhe die Worte formen.
Und muss man so am Notenpapier kleben. Auswendig lernen und meinetwegen die Noten zur Sicherheit hinlegen. So aber wird das Publikum nicht in den Bann der Musik geschlagen. Herr Rim sollte grundlegend an diesen Mängeln arbeiten, dann könnte er vielleicht als Liedersänger überzeugen.

She did one crescendo in accordance with the music at that moment. She was pretty much perfect, and the Steinway sounded incredible.
@@janebethshimon Well, no I just mean how I am hearing it over CZcams. The sound is just off like the choral and piano aren't working together in my ear.
Pitch, rhythm, intonation and ensemble are all perfect; even the space has a beautiful acoustic. There's just a curious lack of *confidence* from this choir. You can see it in their body language as well as hear it. And the pianist is giving it a little too much "welly" throughout.
