TEXT
English source: William Arms Fisher
Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm a goin' home;
Quiet like, some still day,
I'm just goin' home.
It's not far, just close by,
Through an open door;
Work all done, care laid by,
goin' to fear no more.
Mother's there 'specting me,
Father's waiting too;
Lots of folk gathered there,
All the friends I knew.
Nothin' lost, all's gain,
No more fret nor pain,
No more stumblin' on the way,
No more longin' for the day,
Goin' to roam no more!
Mornin' star lights the way,
Restless dreams all done;
Shadows gone, break o'day,
Real life just begun.
There's no break, there's no end,
Just a livin' on;
Wide awake, with a smile
Goin' on and on.
Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm just goin' home.
It's not far, just close by,
Through an open door;
I'm just goin' home.
Goin' home. - Zábava
Is this even real? It seems too celestial for the current state of earth. Thank you, VOCES8. ♥
Profoundly eloquent! I thought I had entered heaven when I heard Voices8 about a month ago as well. To watch Eric Whitacre direct his heavenly piece called Sing Gently opened the door for me. You and Eric's showing us your beauty have given me hope in a broken world, as COVID strikes again! Your voices carry me into the arms of the compassion of God! Be well.
i adore Eric Whitacre, he's actually doing a week long residency at my college in the spring. I cannot wait to work with him]

Remember, we are made of stardust.
Loved your comment. Exactly my thoughts.
Are you USan?
My dad sang this at his grandmother’s funeral. I know I’ll sing it at his one day. And I hope someone will sing me home at my own.
I just heard Voces8 last night in concert near DC (11/5/23). I was afraid that in person they might not sound as good as they do in recorded sessions. But, I am happy to say that they are more impressive in live performance. Even though they must have been tired after their USA tour, as this was their last stop, they stayed around afterwards and were (seemingly) happy to sign autographs and chat a bit. What a talented and delightful group.
Absolutely right, also my experience with their live performances 🥰 They just always sound impeccable and TOUCHING 🥹
Where did the perform?
@@seagrave7336 At a tiny church (Grace Episcopal Church) in the tiny town of The Plains, Virginia.
We were there too! It was wonderful, and without a large acoustical space to really enhance their sound, that was really impressive they still had such an impeccable blend, like an organ. The two trains rolling through town within minutes of each other thankfully didn’t ruin any of their pieces, whew! Added a comical element to the show, they pulled it off and kept their composure so well!
I’ve attended several concerts of them - btw as well with several trains just passing by right before the hall‘s windows. Always splendid!
I do tend to think that one of their success mysteries lies in the following :
They do what they absolutely love to do and further more are able to deliver in quite extraordinary quality…
so giving concerts, connect to each other musically and connect to people appreciating their doings is just the thing they want to do.
-> In the end, I do belief that for them making music and giving concerts just is not „going to work“, but being blessed to get high on endorphines and adrenaline every other night, getting in the flow and having the best of possible times.
that‘s what the attending public will absolutely feel at any of their concerts
My dad's favourite. He said it reminded him of all his soldier mates who were killed in ww2. They were going home. Miss you, dad ❤
There’s a famous Life magazine photo of a black Navy CPO playing accordion to this tune as tears streamed down his face when FDR’s casket left Warm Springs in April, 1945.
Thank you @brucekuehn4031. I will definitely have to take a long look at that photo. Do you happen to know what issue, year of Life magazine?

Your poor dad must have emptied his tear bags with those memories
❤❤❤
Transcendent rendition of this classic. Bravissimo! Being a good ways into my eighth decade, I'm finding that it's easier to 'go home' for a while, by just resting as awareness.. Thank you Dearhearts of Voces8!
❤ yes, resting as Awareness. Grateful im learning
Angels on Earth ❤
Yes! This only comes with age…
I was just doing that....
In a world filled with darkness and cruelty there are these eight beautiful voices bringing joy to the world. Dvorak and I loved it.
This is without doubt the most beautiful performance of Goin’ Home I’ve ever heard. Dvorak would be so proud of you all. Thank you!
Sometimes it seems surreal that such a choir as VOCES8 could be. I am always mesmerized by their voices, both in solos and in harmony. And this piece was simply breathtaking. Bravo, as always, VOCES8🎶.
Amidst all the gloom that surrounds us we find there is hope and joy. The glory of the human voice comes through and refreshes our souls
The uniqueness of each human voice gets me! Mollie then Andrea each different, each perfect. A precious gift for these days.
Dad passed away last week. He's gone home to my mother, his darling Annie! 💜
💕💜💕
sorry for your loss
They are together again 🙏
May rest in peace.
I sang this piece many times over the years, at Requiem Masses chorally and solo. I think it was a lovely message from him this evening that this piece came up. Voces 8 as usual singing it incredibly well indeed. We'll done to them.
I've always loved this music from Dvorak's New World Symphony...who doesn't ? But this is the first time I've ever heard it vocalised as a choral piece. Simply amazing as always, VOCES8.
The Symphony From The New World is amazing start to finish. This a cappella rendition is phenomenal.
Same. Yes!
Yes! I LOVE that it’s a vocal rendering of (part of) the symphony, not just an arrangement of the spiritual.
Check out the version sung by Libera, a British boy choir
Ich kannte diesen Satz bisher nur aus der 9. Sinfonie von Dvorak. So etwas Phantastisches habe ich noch nie in einer A-Capella Version gehört. Thank you for your solo Molly, and thank you Voces8 ! 🥰
Our parish recently lost a 101 year old lady who ran every event for decades. I’ve been going to this parish for only 2 months and I’ve only spoken to her once. But her passing has affected me so much. Thank you for assuring me that she’s gone home and that she’s close by.
I am at a COMPLETE loss of words. I am sitting here in TEARS. FANTASTIC performance!
Děkuji za nádherné provedení skladby od jednoho z našich nejlepších hudebních skladatelů Antonína Dvořáka! Pozdrav z České republiky!
❤
I first learned this song as part of a handbell choir when I was in middle school. I've always loved it since then. This acapella arrangement is lovely and the performance - spectacular as is usual for you!
Sang this in a choir once , the emotions all came back while listening. Thank you!
"Going Home" has burrowed itself into my heart since hearing it in the movie "Paradise Road ", starring Glen Close. My husband and I play it each night before closing our eyes for sleep. And then, I discovered VOCES 8... which we also play each night ...imagine my joy just now, hearing my very favorite group singing..."Going Home!"
Thank you, VOCES 8!
Super!!
AH, the harmonies from 1:40 to 1:50 are so heavenly. Tears and chills. Thank you, Voces 8!
Sounds like the 7th is out just a tad. Then brings it in just at the 1:51. Not that I could do better, but...
I get what you're saying -- maybe the slight correction makes it even more satisfying! @@HereXEG
@@avogrid296 I'll have to start applying that theory to my music!! 😂
Yes, my favorite section!
From Dvoraks 9:th Symphonie. So simple and beautiful arrangment, sung by eight angels!
Floating harmonies, angelic voices, lots of emphasis - that's the unrivalled ensemble Voces8! I love it!❤
They definitely do seem to float above the surface of the earth, defying gravity with their incredibly beautiful music. A joy to listen to.
I agree wholeheartedly with the many beautiful comments and find this group a sacred practice in my day. Thank you!
as always, simply unbelievable
New World Symphony is my absolute favorite composition ever created. Who better to sing it - each one of your voices are examples of heavenly perfection.
I remembered my father, who went home on 2022 June 6th...
Edit 2024 May 5th: And the "CZcams" gave me this music again now, 3h15 AM.
Still haven't listened to the whole thing, keep repeating the beautiful "oh-oh-oh" the bari passes to the tenor 🙈, then that crisp bright chord. Can't wait for the rest. Excellent arrangements as always. 🤩
Stunning. Thank you.
So beautiful! ❤

I've just arrived at my 8th decade and only recently come across Voices 8 . I thought Their Elgar edition of Nimrod could not be matched in excellence but I accept their Going home up holds their brilliance ! Thank you ,one of these is going to be heard at my passing.
A touchjng arrangement and performance that would be suitable for a future memorial concert honoring the great Maestra Patricia Burda Janeckova.
So lovely!! Thank you for sharing the gift of your music

You lift my spirits voices. Thank you. Julie
I just love you guys and gals... heavenly. Thanks for the gifts you give us.
I had not heard this song before. What a simple yet lovely song. Well done VOCES8.
That has to be one of the saddest, yet greatest sounds of all. Thank you.
Wonderful choir and melody!
Stunning in its simple perfection…as always with this fantabulous group.
@@user-jp7kx9qv1m Dankeschön!
Woah that was one of the most beautiful and incredibly moving pieces of music that I have listened to
The might be the best arrangement so far. Damn. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very good.
Oh My.
Such beautiful lyrics performed by VOCES8 to touch the soul.
Thank you.
Largo from New world Symphony, last Dvorak symphony, even though written and firstly done in USA, performs the composer' s love to our beautiful country. I think that his first thoughts sounded heavenly like this.
Eerie resonances and harmonies! Superb musicians.
I had tears streaming down my face by the end of this piece. MAGNIFICENT!
Soul comforting indeed
Just listened to VOCES8 Fauré Requiem & then this came up as a selection. Two wonderful performances. Thank you.
