    Just started this video, can’t wait for you to see the state of the stock top mount bushed when you take them out. No idea who designed them, or what rubber they used, seen the top bush go after as little as 25k

      Other knocking from the back, if the driver reports back is usually from the boot knocking from the boot struts failing

    Got to the end, coolant leak usually from the thermostat housing. The oem one has a plastic connector to the rad hoses, always cracks, replace the unit with an aftermarket one, with the metal connector pipe. Other than that 100% replace the timing belt and water pump, seems the oem belt is made from rubber bands, and the aux belt pulley goes too.

    Shock absorber failure is enough to dampen anyones spirits. That goes without swaying of course.

    got exactly these issues with my Fiat 500 (same colour too) it just failed the MOT because of the shock absorber bushings and emissions due to "Front flexible exhaust joint is leaking this causes a HC
    fault. As there is a introduction of unburnt air in to the
    exhaust.
    Problem also is that the rest of the exhaust is corroded and the rear pipe mounting has corroded off.
    Vehicle requires a new complete exhaust system."
    For a new exhaust and new shock absorbers plus labour, the garage quoted me £752.81!

    The fiat looks very rusty underneath as well ...recon it got much salt in wintertime ...are you going to do anything about the bottom ...like spraying anti rust and a preventive coating? Just bought one for my daughter a 1.2 from 2011 I hope it's not like yours...😉

    I can’t believe they’ve done all that work for the clutch and shocks. Still didn’t change oil... so strange.
    Thinking you’re loving the little 500, sure you don’t wanna keep it hahaha.

      Yes it's very strange one owner from new and many repair bills. But no maintenance work. So I'm going to swap the cam belt too as a precaution. Yes I do quite like it. A bet it will do better MPG than my clk500.

    Where did you get the next exhaust from, who makes it and what model number? Thanks :)

      @@vintagesteelgarage Hello, thanks for that I bought this along with new exhaust rubbers but going over bumps it’s hitting the underside of the car now. I believe it’s hitting it just before where the pipe goes down to the joint. Did yours do this too?
      P.S looking at your video your exhaust seems quite far away from the heat shield where as mine is very close, strange indeed

    • @vintagesteelgarage
      @vintagesteelgarage  Před 3 lety

      @@mikemyres No i didn't have any clearance issues. However you can get quite bit of adjustment on how the pipe will run be loosening the clamp and realigning the pipe and then tightening the clamp.

    Hi great video, I've just bought a 500 1.2 with 4,000 miles on it. Gonn'a do a light recommissioning do you think some lithium grease on the rear suspension mounts would be good ?.

    • @vintagesteelgarage
      @vintagesteelgarage  Před 3 lety +2

      @@vintagesteelgarage Hi again it’s 2015 colour therapy limited edition ( but it’s really a pop steel wheels and a peashooter exhaust ) a chap bought it new for his daughter and she didn’t want it so I bought it , I hate to see a good car going to waste. A bit different from my former car!!! A Mazda MX5 😊.

    One of the worst cars ever designed.Get a Toyota Aygo or Yaris .I learned the hard way!

    • @vintagesteelgarage
      @vintagesteelgarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I agree , but it has way more kerb appeal than a Yaris. Sometimes practical isn't fun

      @@vintagesteelgarage It is cute-looking but the same issues occur and Fiat don’t correct them.The rear wiper wiring breaking where it pivots by the hatchback,shock absorber top mounts,rear shocks and one of the worst try changing front wishbones-you have to remove the front bumper first!!!Just a poor design.My other daughter’s car aToyota Aygo-no issues in 7 years.Love your channel btw.👍

    • @vintagesteelgarage
      @vintagesteelgarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Yep fully agree and had all those issues already. But it's like the original mini which was a rust trap. Poor access for maintenance etc etc. Now iconic. People love landrovers but they have terrible reliability. Also gives me something to make a video about. Thanks for feedback.
