  • The Italians build some beautiful cars don't they? Problem is they are not that affordable! Companies like Ferrari and Maserati make some stunning cars that deliver world class performance. For 2014 Maserati has inched closer to what your wallet can afford with the Ghibli which is an excellent value proposition. The 2014 Maserati Ghibli starts at $65,600.

    As with any Maserati you are expecting something that is very visually appealing to the eye. The Ghibli certainly checks that box with the aggressive front end, tucked reverse grille, and sharp headlights. The aluminum multi-spoke wheels are gorgeous. The Ghibli is essentially a shorter version of the Quattroporte sedan. Out back is the familiar rear end with a dual exhaust system.
    Under the hood there are 2 engine options. The Ghibli S 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 makes 410 horsepower and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. 0-60 MPH goes by in 4.8 seconds and the sound is incredible. The engine was designed by Maserati but built by Ferrari.

    Read some reviews both good and bad on this car and decided to look at it for myself. Quite simply, it is the best car I've ever driven. Engine roars. Handles great. Yet is comfortable as well. It is a luxury Ferrari. Only negative is that it came standard with summer tires on an AWD car which is ridiculous. Make sure you get the 19" wheels with all season tires. I've owned a 911, Cayman, Mercedes E Class, Audi S5, Cayenne, Mercedes G Wagon, and absolutely none of them compare to this car in looks or performance. I traded in a 2007 Quattroporte for the Ghibli and although I loved the styling of the old QP, it doesn't even compare driving wise. Not to mention with AWD, you can go out in less than ideal conditions of you want it to be your every day driver. Yes, it's s bit pricey, but when you compare what you get, it's worth it. The G Wagon was a 125K car new (I bought it used) and for the life of me, I don't understand why. The E Class corners like double decker bus compared to the Ghibli and while the 911 drives amazing, it isn't the most practical car on the market.

      +Matt Micros Matt Micros, I can only agree with everything you say. I have since Feb this year owned my Ghibli. I have to date had every German marque and many variants over the years, BMW, Merc, Audi, (still have 911) they are all very good cars. The Ghibli..... perfect ? - no ! but the style, the drive, the quality, the feel, totally, totally amazing. The German motors I've had pale into insignificance when I drive, see, experience my Ghibli, simply the best car I've ever owned. The doubters and critics out there, please try it..... it is a wonderful car...

    I have been driving a Beemer (different models - 3/5/6) for many years; nowadays you can find multiple of them in every street. Therefore I was on the look for something different, something which brings back the emotion & fun! Then I bumped into this very likable car and became interested a test drive. Before doing so, checked out the internet (where loads is available, just skip the nonsens of those comparing this with a Kia and such), and heard and seen so much that the test drive actually became only was about the true feel of the car.
    Now I clearly can say "SOLD"! Have ordered it and can't wait until it gets delivered. Definitely need to go SQ4, as that gives so much more. Certainly when you expect to have to drive in snowy conditions. So for me one of the better cars out there, apart from the real and less affordable TOP.
    Just don't understand these people who need to come up with all kind of crap to express their disliking! When you don't like the design, the interior or even that Maserati is using something developed by somebody else and works well, fine but it can be said differently. Just annoying for any proper car enthusiast!

    • @VD740
      @VD740 Před 9 lety

      Got my SQ4 in July and done about 10'000 km since. Truly enjoyed every second! A different feel and style than driving a Beemer (or like), more active, more one with the car with loads of fun. Not that I like all about the car (my major negative item is that the shift does not work as precise as what I was used to) but doesn't every car make have something you are not 100% happy about? I have no regrets whatsoever, actually on the contrary! Only can recommend it!

    • @MaedKrunz
      @MaedKrunz Před 9 lety

      William Bastiaan Do you really recommend it? I'm sold too and I need an honest feedback on the Q4... Please advise

    • @VD740
      @VD740 Před 9 lety

      Maed Krunz Yes Maed, I really recommend it. It was the best I could have done as I now have fun driving again. But it very much depends on your expectation, what do you need it to do? The car will transport 4 adults and a child but I would not have chosen it when I need to move people around (like a family man often needs to do); it would not be the choice when I regularly need to transport stuff as the car is not made for it (don't get me wrong, the boot is remarkably big, actually deep; you can put in a lot of stuff but it is not meant to be a transporter of goods). My choice was the SQ4 and that absolutely has to be my recommendation, with peddles and all. For me it offers a top driving experience, the engine UNBEATABLE (for what one spends). I (like most people) do not use the car to test its limits, so I can't tell you at which speed you still can take a turn before you need a certain skill to correct it. Stopping the car (breaking) was a different experience as it does very fast! Something I needed to get used to in the beginning. The sound ... well do I need to say more? The feel of the car is pure luxury and I just laugh about people making comments like comparing the design of the car with some Asian brand. They simply have no idea about style and class! One remark often made was the cheap feel of the electronic/digital centre in the middle of the dashboard, that it simply was taken over from Chrysler. Well that is correct, one used an existing supplier but it does what it needs to do well. That one might have better modified the looks, yes, but it being supplied by Chrysler does not make it bad. What amazed me was that still not many people know that Maserati adjusted their car range and went to the mid section (despite the investments in commercials and like)! One still reacts like it is a car from the real luxury segment, younger people still make photo's of the car and yes, the car has the flavour of the upper segment. A Beemer does not turn heads anymore, the Ghibli does! Don't get me wrong, it is not that the car has no flaws! Still don't like the shift after 20'000KM. It simply does not give me the feel of in which mode I am, I always need to look to be absolutely sure. It regularly happens that I am not in the mode I expected (which is my biggest annoyance). Also, when you expect the car to use all possible electronic advanced systems (like Beemers, Mercs etc. nowadays have - the automatic distance control, the car warning you when you cross certain lines), the Ghibli does not offer that. Actually I do not need that as I am an active driver, I like to feel what I am doing, be in control myself. Every time I step into the car, I enjoy it and remain enthusiastic. My dollars well spend!

    • @VD740
      @VD740 Před 9 lety +1

      Maed Krunz One tip Maed, be careful about the color you pick! Let me describe why. I wanted to step away from the greyish tones I often had in the past, pick a modern color (which consequently will not be that modern anymore in time). Not too flashy ... so I picked white. Two options, a luxury one (forgot the name of it) with a terrific shine to it, or the standard one (which is not a cheap white!). My partner recommended the luxury look but my feel told me to go for the standard one as a sporty car looks better with a 'harder' color. Happy that I did!!! I have heard that, the person who took the luxury/special white, needed to get the whole side of his car repainted when he wanted to remove a scratch! [these damned shoppers don't care about other people's property!!!] That has been confirmed by my dealer. Certain paints require larger works/repairs as one otherwise might see that there is a difference in color.

      Lili Ilieva Not comparable animals: there is a good market for S class, XF, Panamera 4S, Bentley and Ghibli`s at sustainable margin because compared to these upper class saloons, the Kia k900, Camry Tesla S and other basic transportation steel products performance, comfort and NHV are just marginal and also boring to drive. Average products must be discounted at low margin to sell. Market has the final word: just review automotive industry financials reports and spend many hours in cars... it's cristal clear. Philgood

    Don't forget, though, that the pentastar was developed during the Chrysler collaboration with Mercedes-Benz so the block borrowed some engineering advances from the venerable Teutonic company. So in effect you have a Maserati with a Ferrari tuned engine based on a Chrysler block that evolved from Mercedes-Benz. Not necessarily bad provenance.

    The first reviewer i've seen who actually finds the seats unquestionably comfortable compared to the Germans, the steering "great", AND finds the shared Chrysler components within view acceptable for a Maserati. Hmmm...I find all of that suspect. I get the impression this review is seen through rose-colored glasses based simply on the badge this car has. I find it extremely hard to believe this car is anywhere near "better" than a Mercedes E class, BMW 5 series, or Audi A6/7 when it comes to all of these points he argues in favor of the Maserati. He makes it sound like the Maserati is leages better...but almost all other reviews i've seen/read seem more realistic and tell it like it is: This is NOT a better car than the Germans for the money, UNLESS you simply want to brag you have a Maserati.

      Joseph Addonizio I work for Fiat Chrysler. I work with Italians everyday and Quatroporte is pronounced with the "eh" at the end. Do you even know what you are arguing? Find a video of a Maserati production line video and you will hear an Italian pronouncing it the right way genius. Till then don't argue something you have no clue about. Have a great day.

    there's no way maserati has the fiancial backbone to R&D its own navigation system, so it has to use a dodge dart's navigation.
    Apart from the engine of this car there is nothing desirable about it. I'd get an AMG or BMW M for that money.

    people buy exclusivity as well, so if you make cars affordable then you're taking away a key part of the maserati brand and other italian sports cars. I wouldn't want to drive a car that three other people are going to have within a half of a mile radius. maybe its just me though.
