      Went there to get my own countertop supplies and waited for over an hour after asking for help twice, left.. went to the other lowes on the other side of town, picked out boards (the only 4 non corkscrewed ones in the whole store).. was told the saw guy went home for the day. Went back to the first store the next day, was told the saw was out of order until further notice. Went to the second lowes, nobody knew the password to the saw, was told to come back the next day. Just a regular week.

    Great video. I've been doing laminate countertops and much more, for over 30yrs... Fyi: what i have found to use as a separation of laminate & plywood - VINYL BLINDS. They are fairly thin, but thick enough to give you the separation.. And they're easy to clean.
    I have multiple strips for various projects... Such as, narrow and wide laminate countertops, I do a lot of medical facility door laminate and cabinet laminate so the shorter panels work perfectly....
    Thanks for the video.. always good to see how other people approach a project. . .

    Gorgeous!!👍👍👍 Thanks for sharing really really like the top (and I'm happy you had to took the other top 😅). For sink installation a plumber told me a trick. If you chalk the sink fill it halfway up and let it in there for 24 hrs until the chalk is hardened so you get a perfect press fit around the sink.

    Awesome job! I love all of it in this kitchen. A tip for you:
    If you want your top to be easily removable, please consider the possibility of using "famos" type connectors (approx € 0.4 each) instead of pocket holes.
    This hardware can be also used in cabinet making for any 90° fast joint.

    Nice job with the laminate sir! Another old trick and alternative to the dowels or extension cords to keep the glued laminate from touching the glued plywood top is to use old metal or plastic Venetian blinds strips. They stack easily in the tool chest and can be re-used for years. Cheers!

Other guys with a dyi channel are using these machines that cost thousands of dollars and they need a huge studio to house them and/ or make these crazy modifications and use techniques that trained carpenters have a hard time perfecting. Your projects are always fantastic, actually doable for a novice or pro DYIer. I hope you and your family are well during these crazy times. Going to try this project myself as I want to make my own garage bar... maybe an idea for a future video ? Thanks a lot Jonny.

    • @amd2800barton
      @amd2800barton Před 4 lety +4

      You can also get laminate edging that matches the top. I did this for some built in desks, and people thought I’d ordered custom granite until I had them look under the top. The trick is to not get a round-over edge but one where the top comes to a sharp corner. So the line/seam is hidden in the line of the corner, then run a bead of color matched silicone along the corner.

    As I also like the look of the visible plies in plywood, I built the table top for my assembly table in my garage from 1250 x 42mm (49" long x 1 /5/8" wide) staves of scrap 13/16" formwork plywood from work with the resin surface planed off, and ended up with a 1200 x 840 x 40mm (47 1/4" x 33" x 1 9/16") slab. I finished the edges with a 1/8" roundover bit and treated the surface with 4-5 coats of satin clear flooring laquer. It came out absolutely fantastic. :)
    I mounted the table top to the 2x4 frame with 9 countersunk carriage bolts (rectangular frame 1000mm long x 760mm wide with a central crossmember).

    17:33 Came out great, nice job. Couple tips Ive learned. Using Silicone to seal garbage disposal drains in a Stainless steel sink seems to hold up a lot better over time. The heaviness of the disposal, mixed with the thinness/light weight of the metal sink can vibrate the putty out over a few years. And also if not using an air gap when running the dishwasher drain hose it's best practice to run it through the top (about 32" high) of cabinet to prevent any siphoning or backflow problems 🤙🏼

Nortric birch.. 3. use dowels.. like 100 of them. 4. you can also come back with a block of wood and a hammer. Smacking that down really makes it grab the adhesive. 5. put a round over on that. 1/8 - 1/16th. Really softens the edge. A
