I wasn't allowed to use flair behind the bar, until my manager found out we had ~12% more profits on the shifts I was on, because I did flair anyways. Then he encouraged me to keep on doing it.
Fuxk yeah. That's awesome. Thanks for sharing
I think you mean +~12% revenue... profit has nothing to do with fancy bartending
Even if that was true you are an exception not the rule. If the owner says no flair then dont do flair. Entitled brat.
Life lesson
@@ParkeWithoutReverse i mean it technically does, more revenue usually means more profits
I dislike flair when it involves spillage, I don't care if you end up spilling a ounce out of a bottle. I don't like the mess on the table. I also hate when it's elaborate and time consuming. If it takes a minute to make a drink and it takes a minute twenty to do your flair awesome. But some people take 5 minutes to make a one minute drink.
Agree. Those people don't know how to use flair properly and what gives it a bad name.
So being tasteful
Haha so many bartenders have had that 'anti-flair' manager before! It's all about sneaky flair, flourishes and spoon tricks are the jobbb!
You got it. Those sneaky flair moves can make the difference
Automatic fingerspins can be kind of useful. If I hold a pencil wrong I make a fingerspin to writing position even though I can underline a word in the wrong position
Automatic fingerspins. Yes. GReat term for it. 👏🏻
Nice one Tom! I'm in the beginning of my journey to become a good bartender. Keep up the good content 👊🏾
Thank you and best of luck to you. Welcome to the wonderful world of bartending :)
Was totally looking for this thanks! How about a compilation of flair tricks w no bottle throws!
NICE Idea. I will do it.
Thank you 👍🏻
Hey Tom, obrigado!!
I was just waiting for it.
Abraços!!
De nada. I hope this helps and make sense
@@TomDyerBartender yes it does!
Thank for addressing the matter.
Ciao for now!!
Love the spoon magic!
Keep up the Good work
Thanks so much!
Big Time topic of the video...this should be an example video for all bartenders !! Love it 💙💙💙💙
Thanks Sikkenhoosen. 👍🏻
I love using working flair at my nightclub. The crowd loves when I blow fire and do fun bottle and shaker spins.
Great simple and easy 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽🔥
Exactly.....and secret :)
Maybe a bit late to the party, but just discovered your channel (Loving it btw). How to make the pouring moves work in UK where you have to measure EVERYTHING?
Keep up the good work pal!
Thanks Daniel.
Sounds like you're on a bar that doesn't like their bartenders to free pour, flair or have any fun. Haha. Hope the videos help. 👍🏻
Bro maybe the first napkin trick was maybe the only "secret flair" I've seen. Every single other thing would get me yelled at my bar.
Nah, you just gotta do it with confidence.
Very cool and not too elaborate!
Exactly. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid 🤣👍🏻
P.s. I'm not calling you stupid
Just got a cocktail making set as a Christmas present. I don’t even drink 😂 but at least if I learn some tricks I can still have fun at parties 😎 and these moves are pretty accessible, thank you 👍
Have fun!
It makes me so sad that the pandemic has killed any rolls with your own body involved. I used to do the roll to the hand a lot.
ah, dont worry about it....things will geet back to some sort of normal again soon.
Great video! Great ideals for simple flair to do for game nights and house concerts!
House concerts. Love it. 😁👍🏻
thank you so much
You're welcome!
Edit… I subscribed and liked, this guy obviously is a very good teacher, and knowledgeable mixologist.
I’m a very VERY new bartender/supervisor…
The thumb roll thing was always second nature to me, even as a host grabbing a refill…
It actually really helps to start with pint glasses because they’re heavier, and you learn to do it every time you pick up a glass out of the glass rack.
I used to take short tumblers out of the rack and flick or spin them upright for the catch behind the back while grabbing my first bottle.
Hard to free pour these days with liquor laws.
free pour in secret :)
Love it!
Thank you
I’m still waiting to perform my secret pina colada over the shoulder!😂
hahahahahahahhaha....DO IT!! And film it so we can see it. If you land a move like that at work, they will let you flair whenever you want.
That sleeve is insane
New subs here sir. Im from the philippines. Thank you for this videos. Godbless
Thank you for joining us
@@TomDyerBartender im a bartender too here in the philippines😊😊😊
Very nice 🖤🖤 love 🤩 bartender 🖤
*Manager comes*: Hey what are you doing?!
Shh, just some super Tom dyer´s secret flair moves, people loves them!
Manager: Oh, as long as them are secret moves everything ok
Nice moves! help many people out there!
Hahahahaha. Exactly. Don't tell anyone. They'll never know
Hey Tom I’m not a bartender but always wanted to be but it 56 I think that ship 🚢 has sailed for me, what is the purpose of putting ice in the large shaker and then dropping the small shaker into it ?
Nice! Thx
Any time
Thanks You Sir'
You're welcome
Fucking shit I hate it when I look for a bar to work at and they say we won’t let you do flair here 😭😭
Hey Tom I’m from Egypt and like what you doing my name is Ahmed and I really would like to learn more and more about bars and flair I work in ministry of sound disco in hurghada
Thanks Ahmed. Happy learning.
Drinks are expensive in my city. I might as well get a show with my drink.
hahahahah...exactly
Nice tricks! So those pouring moves can be done with a full bottle right? Without spilling ofcourse😜
Of course. If you're careful. 😉👍🏻
Heeey Sir 😍😍😍 Can't wait to try all these lovely moves on my shift tomorrow 🍻 cheers
YES.....I know you can do them ALL....Hope you're having a lovely shift.
@@TomDyerBartender OooooooOOo thanks for replying. Lovely shift, thank you ❤️
I feel dumb asking this...but why in the tin on tin moves were you putting the small tin into the large one upside down (or right side up depending on perspective)? How would you be sealing the shaker that way? I feel like I'm confused as to what point in the shaking process this is happening...
It's to prepare the cocktail in the shaker which us sitting on ice and cooling down. When ready, turn it over, seal and shake as normal
Super helpful, thanks mate love ur content. You should post these clips on TikTok! You'd blow up I would bet
Thanks for the idea!
The 8:38 10:04 moves are fun and simple, wicked!
By the way:You don't look a day over 25 today,To be dressed to kill😜😜
Cheers mate😆
YES.....Thank you. It's the new mechandise. I didn't say in the video, but it make the person wearing i look younger, hahahaah.
You can't ask a flair bartender to not flair. Once it's ingrained in you, there's no turning back.
This is interesting definitely it’s not flair but still adds flash
why is it not flair?
@@TomDyerBartender I guess I’m still learning. Flair isn’t actually having to keep objects in the air? Or releasing them in the air?
Hey Nino,
100% Not at all.
I know what video I'm making next week now.
What is Flair Bartending! I'll explain in detail 🙂👍🏻
I love that thanks
I LOVE TOM I LOVE BATENDER ^^
😊
@@TomDyerBartender 🥰
Nice Sir^^🥰
Thanks
Big fan❤️❤️❤️
thank you
Big faN 🥰🥀
Love from Nepal 😌🔥😘
Thank you very much
As long as your pours are precise, I have nothing against flair. If your drinks are inconsistent because the tricks are causing fluctuations in your pours, then you can fuck right off from behind my bar. You’re not welcome.
Standardization first, then speed, then style. No style without speed, no speed without consistency.
I’m firmly in the Dave Arnold camp of bartending.
Totally agree with you!!
Really I like ur style ❤️iam from india

Thank you very much
"I love Flair" will get seen as a wrestling shirt.
Flair is good when it's subtle ..
Look at older Japanese bartenders ... They make it look natural and .. lost my track of thought
Older japanese bartenders.....Can you name some for me to check out?
@@TomDyerBartender most def, I know their culture in mixology is different and subtle in general but here are a few that I'm sure you've heard of;
Hidetsugu Ueno
Takafumi Yamada
Takuo Miyanohara
Sato Kenichi
@@MrQuartzable Completely agree. I bet these guys never say that they flair. 🤔 This is the interesting part about flair bartending. Almost every bartender uses some type of flair in some way, but only 1% of bartenders actually say they do.
@@TomDyerBartender bartender, here. I'm commenting because you're right. I'll say I hate flair, and don't do it, but then again I have my own small subtle flair that I'll do and enjoy, but I won't call it that. You've made an honest man out of me.
Upload your signature drinks

Are you from the Upside Down Show
Yes. It's me

As a customer I hate flair. I just want you to put effort in my drink. I’m here to drink a cocktail not to watch a circus show.
not a fan of seeing someone who is very skilled showcase some skills AND put effort into a fantastic drink?
@@TomDyerBartender it’s not that of course the level of skill and work is impressive but I always look flair like an unnecessary thing in a bar. For me it’s like a butcher shop gaz station :). Sorry if my commentary looked offensive. I didn’t wanted to
i low-key wished this video was longer. :)
Hahahahahaha. I could do a part 2?
@@TomDyerBartender yes, please.. 🙂
Someone was too scared to get their elbow done, eh? 👀
hahahahaha....it was recommended by the artist for the specific design I had....but also, yeah :hahahahah
@@TomDyerBartender lol just busting your chops

wooo hoooo, thank you very much
I Like You🍸🥃
thanks
This is super duper silly
Silly Billy?
So many wasted motions... I'm trying not to scream.
don't hold it in...screeeeaam.....scream as loud as you can :)
It looks like all these tricks are good for is wasting time
Like your comment? 😂
I bartend in fine dining. I would be mutilated if I did these. Would be fun though.
I bet they wouldn't even notice.
It's all about how you do it. If you mess up and make noise then yes. Problem. But if you execute perfectly. No one would notice. If you try it out let us know how it goes 🙃
@@TomDyerBartender will do
No disrespect, but I've never been to a bar where this wouldn't be extremely unwanted. It'd be just as unwelcome at divey industry bars or nice cocktail bars. Where is this kind of thing appropriate? Maybe at a frat party or a resort or something? Perhaps it's an australian thing? I'm not trying to be rude, I just genuinely don't get it.
There are several bars across the world that allow / have flair bartending. Look at TGI Fridays. IT is part of their training to become a higher paid bartender.
Also, many bartenders are incorporating flair bartending into their skills as it is enjoyable for them.
don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bartenders out there that use it incorrectly, but a good flair bartender is great to see in action. IT's all about time and place.
@@TomDyerBartenderThe problem is generally the personality of the bartender, not the flair itself.
@@deathbybears well, that could be any bartender then, hahahaha. Not just the flair ones. 🙃
This is so dumb just make the drink
Right, really dumb. Who would want to do any of this stuff behind the bar to have fun or entertain guests. I much prefer a boring bartender that has no soul or charisma making my drinks.
@@TomDyerBartender same
You know what I hate more than flairs? Long winded intro.
Do you mean the trousers, flares? 🤔
NO!!! BAD!!! NO FLAIR!!!
Excuse me? Are you trying to say flair is bad?
@@TomDyerBartender nailed it
@@destroy1998 Splendid. May I ask why you think so?
