AHHH! What a crazy adventure. Thank you all so much for watching, and being a part of this with us. Portugal was one of the most beautiful places I've ever traveled, and the next four episodes will have you itching to buy a ticket and jet off right away. Big thanks to the Eater team for supporting and refining this vision, you guys are GOLD. Have you been to Portugal? If not, what is your favorite place to travel to for food?
Amazing! Your filming is so real and beautiful. Is there a term for when someone else's memories match exactly your own experience? A deja vu but passed between strangers? Cause I had the same day a few years ago down to the "not the most efficient operation"
Finally, Iz! 🤩👏✨ can't wait for your next vid with Eater 😄
next time you're in Portugal check out the local eateries called "tascas"...i guess you could call them restaurants, but they're more like little eating halls with a limited menu, where the local working class folks eat lunch for a reasonable price ... it's the closest thing you'll get to eating homemade Portuguese food without being in someones home..but nice video..you guys seem like really sweet parents too
Iz Harris Been to Portugal and love the people and food! If you’re ever in Portugal it’s not about the Pastel de Nata(they are still good)! Try the amazing dishes as in the following: the chorizo (smoked sausage) with Raspberry jam , pasteis de bacalhau(codfish pastry), sardines, or end the afternoon with a drink of Porto or Ginjiha with cheese. Check out Alfama district, Sintra, Porto ,Cascais, and Algarve!
Tip: Although walking is the best way to explore Lisbon. Uber is affordable there. Rides are usually €5-13. Tram 28 is good but has become to touristy(like the cable cars in San Francisco). When eating out, avoid places where you see people advertising their restaurant or anything with a really big English menu. The more you can’t understand and the more locals is better.
Edit: The local family owned eateries or bars are known as Tasca.
You are so much better than DaI Dai Dai
How did Vox find a couple who are both incredible hosts!? We need more Iz!
Michael Minasian she and her husband each have a CZcams channel (also, Johnny has a series on vox)
@@haagjohnson2773 yes, that was sort of my point 😉
Indeed
My first thought it 'Iz must be so low key hyped about Johnny being labeled as 'Iz's Husband'.
you get me 😂
Thought exactly the same thing 😂
@@IzHarris Down with Borders!!
The walk to that castle is no joke. My legs still hurt. Pro-tip: don't attempt in the rain. Those street tiles turn slick as snot.
Chris Hawkins but the view from the top on a nice clear day is worth it....
Sorry its historic we cant chance !
I was amazed about the video and the photography quality. Such breathtaking scenes and awesome content. Just WoW. Greetings from Brazil.
I believe we have awesome food in Brazil because of our heritage, but the original cuisine from Portugal is just amazing. My mouth was watering the whole video. Someday I want to visit.
Será bem vindo e de certeza que não se vai arrepender.
Abraço Brasil 🇵🇹🇧🇷
Lisbon Portugal is incredible and wonderful!!!! Greetings from the Basque Country!!!
Basque pintxos are damn good too! Especially from Mercado de la Ribera in Bilbao.
i remember when i was a kid, my American father would tell us Portuguese chicken was the best he ever had...i didn't realize then, but now i get it..
I’m portuguese and i just want to say that you should totally have eaten our traditional cod fish dishes becuase they come in so many forms and all of them are so good! Great video though 💪
Could you name some dishes
@@henryaung596 my pleasure! There's Bacalhau à brás, Bacalhau com broa, Bacalhau cozido Bacalhau à zé do pipo, Bacalhau assado and many more!! Sorry if i didn't write the names in english since i only know them in portuguese but a quick google search should give the idea of what it looks like 👍😊
@@andrebraga930 awesome you're a legend! Definitely gonna find out more and make some at home if I can! Would travel to Portugal but plane tickets... ):
@@andrebraga930 and I'm guessing bacalhau is cod 😂
@@henryaung596 yeah it's just the name for cod in portuguese 😂😂😂
I have been a couple of times in Lisbon. Gorgeous city and fantastic for food.
Three things portugal is hard to beat in quality !
Wine
Cheese
And fish
we need more Travel, Eat, Repeat with Iz Harris!
aw, thanks girl!
My husband and I just got back from Lisbon....that piri piri chicken place was hands down amazing! We got lucky and arrived at 2pm, right when she was about to close and prep for dinner. There was no line and we got the table outside. The rice was fantastic, along with the tomato salad, olives, and chips. Thank you for posting this video!
I fell in love with Portugal too.. 😊
I've just posted a travel film about my connection to Portugal too..you should check it out. 😇🇵🇹
hey its Johnny from the Borders series on Vox, didnt know he had such a lovely little family
thank you ☺
Is that Jonny from Vox?
Yesssssssss!! Clash of worlds !!
Same company, so it's not too out of the ordinary.
hi! Im Iz's husband and I got to tag along on her trip (which I was not complaining about)
@@johnnyharris well ain't that one talented couple, you've got a gem there Jonny 👏👏👏
@@johnnyharris I absolutely love you guys! keep up the good work 🧡
The video was so good! I love the way you tansmit your experience about that beautiful place as Lisboa, the gastronomy and how it is doing that type of holidays with your family. However, I liked the spontaneous moment when you wanted to go to the castle, the engine of the train blew up but even with that, you just go to the castle by walking. Thanks for posting that video, I love the way you film/edit your videos!
I really love your video! You’re the best Guide ! After watching this video I decide that next destination will be Portugal. Thanks for showing that you can travel with a family and babies. It’s a great place for quiet vacation and enjoy culture, food and views.
Cant' imagine the stress of travelling with such small kids and that too while filming for work :(
It's inspiring actually.
they did have the advantage in that the Portuguese love children and it's a very child friendly country..
@@conni70 so true! it was incredibly kid friendly! They do pretty well too ☺
Don’t know why you would travel with kids that young; they don’t know what they’re doing anyways. Might as well leave them with a relative. That’s for all parents.
É um canal de comida, vêm a Lisboa e jantam frango...
Frango assado assim é muito difícil de encontrar nos estados unidos!
O frango assado deles é feito no forno e basicamente não sabe a nada
🤣 🤣 🤣
I'm going to go to Lisbon soon, what do you recommend me to eat ?

@@STR3AKPT not in lisbon, that is a crime ahaha
I always heard of how beautiful Lisbon is...and wow, your video does solidify that! I'm currently deciding to visit there or Stockholm next month, it's a tough decision!
I hope you decided on Lisbon, because Stockholm is very boring.

i love lisbon! the food is absolutely amazing there. Prob one of the best EU countries where your dollar gets you lots.
totally agree, it was incredible!
2:03 Barrio Alto (spanish), BAIRRO ALTO (portuguese)...
Wow! I love this series! I found it after searching for Portugal. I want to go one day. Thanks for all the awesome videos.
Ahahaha, I see you encountered Sonia and her incredibly frustrating ordering process at the chicken shop! We usually always pass by, order, and then go to The Bar next door and go and collect it in a half hour. There are so many wonderful Piri Piris in this town, I'm thinking of doing a piri piri crawl to settle the debate of the best one. PS. You were ill advised on Santini, Nanarella or Daverro is the best gelato in town hands down. My treat if you guys come back!
this is AMAZING, yes it was honestly such a funny experience, but so so so good. And this is good to know, I will make sure to try the others as I have no doubt we will return!
What's wrong with her process? BTW, infuriatingly inefficient and delicious basically describes every restaurant in brasil, and Portugal in a way since we are just and offspring
Haha i guess the ice cream is a bit subjective, for me Santini has no match !
Santini is good, but I had better in Lisbon. They're a bit overhyped because it's a really old gellato maker
forget santini. conchanata in alvalade!
Portuguese egg tarts are extremely widely loved and eaten in Macau which used to be a Portuguese colony and it has also spread to neighbouring Hong Kong and China. It has even become a staple at dim sum restaurants. I wonder how the real deal tastes like!!
Lord Stow's made his own version based on what he saw in Lisbon, he was a chemist.
My wife and I went to the piri piri chicken spot in this video -- we had to try it. Operation wasn't great, and we thought the customer service was pretty rough (and believe me, we're not snobs about customer service -- we don't expect much). With that said, we went twice because it's really that delicious.
If you're ever in Lisbon, try it. Don't expect to eat in (we never did nor did we expect to), expect somewhat rude customer service, take it as it is, and you'll get delicious food for sure.
Absolutely love Lisbon! The food, culture, landscape just everything! ❤️
Literally one of my fave cities in Europe! Such a gem and often overshadowed by Spain which is also my fave country. That pastel de nata tho!
By far one of the best of videos I've seen of Lisbon so far.

definitely do!
Dude is ROCKING those mom jeans!!
Love the view from the castle too.
Wow!!!!!! I want to visit Portugal!!!!
Why not?
I'm Portuguese and I'm really glad you liked Lisbon!
For me that chicken is just the more normal and usual thing to eat so it really amazed me you guys picked it to eat. There are much more tipical meals you could eat and cry for more, you should come again (:

Izzy, you are the best guide ever! I am going to visit Lisbon next mount and I will make sure to visit all above listed places! I am so excited! thank you once again for the great inspiration!
Dont forguet to visit sintra.
Is from another world!
What an awesome video Iz! Lived in Lisbon for 6 years and can confirm that those are indeed some of the local favorites! Hope you got to try some seafood as well! Can’t wait for the rest of the series 😊
So glad to finally see more of Portugal! I haven't seen any good travel vlogs since Rick Steve's Europe on PBS.
Hey, I hope you guys had a great time here in Portugal! Next time, come to Porto.
I'll be there in july to walk the camino! Any advice on what to do? Where to go
@@stephencodekas3745 What is the camino?
@@snowdjagha it's a pilgrimage walk. There are different starting points but they all end in Santiago de compostella
@@stephencodekas3745 Oh that. Well, it's called Caminho de Santiago in portuguese. "Camino" is in spanish though.
@@snowdjagha ok
IZ I LOVE IT! Love the honesty about the gelato. And I love the quest to eat AS MUCH as possible in a short amount of time.
Glad you like Lisbon. Someone in Eater should come visit the Azores Islands, mainly Terceira Island ;)
Duarte Lourenço - Terceira Island holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve lived in Terceira for 5 years, and I just love the beauty of the island, the people, the food, the “Bailinhos” and “Touros”. Viva aTerceira!
Is saw this video when it came out and it left such a big impression on me! Two months ago when me an my friends werent really sure where to spend our vacation this year (the first vacation for me in about ten years) I voted for Portugal and now there is only two days left until I will travel to Lisbon for two weeks.
This place is beautiful !
Amazing chicken...churrasco chicken....hummmm...that meal just put me cooking...
This is an amazing video.. wow well done guys!! Lot of thought put into this..
What a wicked sense of humor! Awesome!
The walk to the castle: there are 2 elevators that helps you get there in no time. You passed through one of them actually 😂😂
This is like the most amazing travel video I've ever seen. Going to Lisbon in a week and so excited.
Finally a travel blog with good shots and actual useful tips
I live in Portugal and I still want to watch 100 of these videos right now!
Thank you for visiting us. It takes courage to walk around Lisbon with two small children, thank goodness you're brave. Come back, you will always be welcome.
Pastelaria da Batalha's pasteis de nata are even better, trust me. And you can join in the baking by scheduling a workshop, in the afternoon. Sad to see they didn't provide for home-made french fries with the chicken - that is the traditional take on that serving... Good to see you guys like the city!
I fell in love with Portugal too.. 😊

Love them video and the recommendations. Nice to see family travel with little kids‼️🥰, the greatest of all adventures
Besides being really well done (video/editing wise) this is exactly the type of review a Mom & Dad of 3 boys looks for. We are planning our travel for 2019 and you just helped add Lisbon to the list. I'm really hungry now!👍🏼✌🏼
Loved this!! Yay Iz 😍👏
Incredible is u are in a city older than your country.
That castle they gone is older than the usa
Well done ! Booking tix to Lisbon now!
If you are in Toronto there is a sizable Portugese immigrant community and you can easily find Portugese bakeries that make egg tarts e.g. Nova Era, Caldense . Always gotta get my fix when I visit Toronto.
Só happy to see a video of Portugal! Next time you'll have to stop at is Porto.
indeathsquad can u plz tell me wht to explore n wht to eat in porto?
Finally, a traveler I can relate to. The notion of traveling with two toddlers would be hard they say, but you give me confidence that I can still enjoy it. Keep it coming, and ill be a fan for life. Love the capture footage and editing style as well.
