I’ve been watching Johnnie Guilbert for around 8 years now and honestly I like his music. I rarely like music made by people who are mainly CZcamsrs but I think he’s genuinely talented and has pretty great lyrics as well. I’ve watched his music grow over the years and some of his recent stuff such as Zombie are amazing!!

Johnnie is definitely not an OG
he doesn't make emo music
he makes mediocre music, the only types of songs ive liked from him was covers when it was just him and his guitar and not with some over the top autotuned crap with a shitty beat that sounds too pop to be considered emo.
i would actually say that the only thing that makes him emo is his style of clothing and tattoos.
i really dont get the hype

My problem with Tiktok when it comes to music especially emotionally driven ones such as emo is you need to hear it up to the chorus and the end to get the full effect. When they repeat the chorus in a loop it takes away from the emotional impact of the chorus. You don't get that hit when it isn't a surprise. Yeah it can be the most fun and catchy part, but the words that lead up to it make it have more of an impact. Take "The Black Parade" for example. If you only heard the chorus the song doesn't have much context. Listen to it from the beginning and you get the heavy instruments and buildup which makes it more powerful. I understand that this is how younger audiences are discovering artists outside of the mainstream, but there is still nothing like listening to a song for the first time from the beginning and letting it all sink in.
I wonder if the black parade (the song) came out today what the reaction would be.

i think there is an inherent logical flaw when it comes to tx2's point about how he "couldnt have become popular as an emo artist without being cringe" when we have emo artists coming out in the modern day that are exploding in popularity without being "cringe"
i honestly really appreciate this person not just straight up saying "oh this person is a poser" and being chill about things

I think that the main reason why the pop punk scene was upset at MGK and the new TikTok wave making or trying to make pop punk mainstream again, is that pop punk was perfectly fine where it was in the 2010s as part of the indie scene.
Bands like Neck Deep, State Champs, Citizen, Fireworks, The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Stand Atlantic, Real Friends and Knuckle Puck were making some of the best music of the genre.
2010s was a awesome time for the scene.

Emo technically isn't a genre. It literally means emotional music thats hardcore to your liking (because hardcore is subjective) it literally means emotional lyrics. Thats it.
Emo is literally short for emotional. Listen to sunny day real estate and tell me how the hell thats the same genre as simple plan? Thats right. The emotionally inclined lyrics or emotions you get from it
Nostalgia is not that bad though, But I wonder if this youtuber realize the US culture is swimming in nostalgia for at least a decade now (regarding cinema, music, clothing etc etc...).

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
