In the last 19 years that I have lived in Idaho Falls, about half of the Winters have been from October to late April and at least one month each Winter the temperature never got above zero. If you have the chance, go to West Yellowstone and go on one of the snowmobile or snowcoach tours into Yellowstone Park. They are well worth the expense. If you want warmer temperatures, Pocatello averages 10 degrees warmer than Idaho Falls.

The wind/moving snow is always fun right around Ririe.

No, Easterm Idaho is not for shrinking violets in the winter. Remember a newly arrived supervisor who was staying in a motel near the falls of the Snake River in February. He didn't know a waterfall could freeze solid.

I’m been here for 3 years idaho falls, got to experience beautiful places outside idaho falls like Yellowstone, Boise, Moscow but sadly I really miss beaches and entertainment and culture. I love California sm but I will miss the slow life in idaho falls and quiet town and peacefulness but for me is just the lack of entertainment, culture, food, ALTHOUGH I love OUtDOORS but I need both for me to be able live here but then I can’t stand snow for 5/6m is to dark and gloomy and sad. But Going leave idaho by beginning of January 2025 so I’m
Looking forward to enjoy my last winter time here before it get longer I anyways Idaho falls is nice quite and small to retired or just be away from people.💗

I grew up in SoCal and while my dream was to live in the Pac NW, when I was ordered to I.F. in 1980 I got the next best thing; and I must say, those were four of the happiest years of my life. What a place to raise your kids! When I arrived in I.F. it was just my wife and me; by the time I left in 1984 we had three kids and I was really sorry to leave. I loved the winters because it was different from what I grew up with, and I noticed straight away that people driving I.F. in the winter have no use for tire chains. I didn't wear chains once in all the time I lived in I.F., even when we had snow a foot-and-a-half deep. If they're plowing now that's a step up from 40 years ago; there WERE no plows back then -- not in Idaho Falls.
The last winter I was there we had a snowstorm overnight on July 4 -- the latest I'd ever seen it snow there. Most of the time first snow was in October and last was in April. And like you said, while that might be a high price to pay for some people, the late Spring through the end of Summer in Idaho Falls is spectacular. Only occasionally did we get the one-off thunderstorm; most of the time it was bright and sunny and quite warm -- sometimes tickling 100 degrees. Weather was never an impediment to me living in I.F. I really enjoyed it.

In the few years that I was in Rexburg, it definitely snows quite often in the winter, I would see snow as early as Oct 2nd and as late as mid-May, it has snowed there even in June or July at one point.
I definitely know this time of year there are weeks where the roads are covered in snow. I’m not sure how they take care of the roads now but about five years ago and before hand they would use rocks in nearly all places to get rid of snow rather than salt and dirt on roadways, highways are always taken care of tho.

For sure! Rexburg gets a little more snow than we do in Idaho Falls in my experience at least :)

Rebecca, I've really enjoyed watching your videos over the last year or so. You're always very insightful. In September of 2021, I moved to Boise from Portland and have enjoyed it here, but have been wanting to get back to living in a smaller city, similar to where I grew up. Last October I visited Idaho Falls with family from Helena and found it to be a very nice area, especially as someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, even in the winter. However, some people have told me to stay in Boise, saying that a 25-year-old would be bored in Eastern Idaho, but I just don't really think that would be the case. If I had wanted a city with nightlife, I wouldn't have moved to Boise, anyways. Just based on what I've told you here, would you recommend Idaho Falls to me? Thank you!

Thank you so much! I really think it just depends on what you're into, but from what you've told me I think you would like this area! There's a ton of outdoor stuff, community events, and things like that :)

I was in Idaho Falls in January of 2002. It was 32 degrees below zero F. So It will get that cold again. Enjoy.
