#maximumthehormone #heavymetal #reaction #japanesemusic #jrock - Hudba
The video opens with a fan (who would be considered FAT in Japan) watching the video for MTH’s Koi no Superma (don’t ask), reading chat’s about the guitarist’s weight loss. She replies that she liked his earlier hefty version. (The title card says basically the same thing.) The music changes to another MTH song, “Chisana Kimi no Te”, with a sarcastic pop J-rock sound, as we see backstage footage of the formerly chubby guitarist eating a pork chop. The puking is from yet another video. As we get to the song, You will notice that the colorful set is filled donuts and other food.
You can find some videos of live performances on CZcams. See the official Koi no Superma video to see their ability to work a crowd.
“Yoshu Fukushu” (Our Merciless home’war’k) is a song about Bohr guitarist being bullied in 8th grade (the second year of middle school in Japan). It is indeed filmed in a typical Japanese school and the characters you see on the screen are they lyrics being sung. The manga imagery comes from a book telling this story that MTH published as part of a box set (some day I will find a used one in Japan) containing a DVD that has this video and the others you can find on CZcams.
FYI, you can find the entire MTH catalog with translated song titles and original lyrics on Apple Music
Thank you so much for all the info Greg, highly appreciated!
@@akaalexanderking Drummer Nao Kawakita is a drum hero of Akane Hirose of BAND-MAID. She is also guitarist Ryo's elder sister who used to defend him from bullies in school.
Interesting bit of trivia: MTH is one of Kobato Miku's (Band-Maid) favorite groups. They inspired her to combine the cuteness of maid outfits and something more hard and brutal. Nao (drummer) is also an important inspiration for many Japanese female drummers including Akane.
She seems to have such an original style when it comes to drumming, not surprising to hear that!
Nao is my Hero. She can play all drumstyles. :)
In Japan, BAND-MAID dru. AKANE, NEMOPHILA dru. TAM, etc.
There are many drummers who have been greatly influenced by the drummer NAO of MAXIMUM THE HORMONE. Both AKANE and TAM started playing drums with their copies.
She has such a distinctive style, great drummer from what I've heard so far!
They are incredible live, specially the more "changing" and fun songs (like "Bikini Sport Ponching", "Koi No Sperm" or "Koi No Mega Lover"), the crowd go crazy dancing, jumping and headbanging all the time. Sadly, there isn't much of them in CZcams because the copyright are very strict and maybe that's one of the causes because they are not known better outside Japan.
Yeah, that's a bit of a shame. This band is phenomenal, with the right exposure I'm quite sure they'd be widely known in western countries as well
Mate! Whoa! You gotta know how much I have been waiting for this - so much fun from both the band and your reaction, which pretty much mirrors exactly how I feel when I watch them. Importance of the lyrics seems to vary, but definitely worth looking up for a bit of extra engagement. And as for live - from the few videos I've seen they have some of the best/craziest crowd involvement that I have ever seen (believe me, and I have seen AC/DC live). Overall they are just the most fun band I have seen on a screen. Glad you got a lot of the same vibes.
These guys are just something else entirely, and I love it ahahah. I'll 100% need to check out EVERYTHING they've released 😂
M.T.H. stand out because they have a truly unique sound. This song is a response to fans criticism because the guitar player lost a lot of weight for health reasons.
P.S. check out their lastest track Hungry Pride.
Thanks, really can't wait to hear more. Phenomenal band!
More Maximum the Hormone? Check out Alien, Maximum the Hormone (song title), Hungary Pride, What's Up People and Zetsu Billy. That last two songs are used on the anime Death Note 🤘😁🤘
I still haven't watched that anime, which is crazy given how much praise I've heard about it. This sounds like the best reason to start 😁
Nice reaction! This is my second favourite MtH song. So many awesome parts that blend together perfectly. I think the music video you were trying to describe was for Yoshu Fukushu? Not only my favourite MtH song but just my all time favourite song. Both these songs are just beautiful examples of their mastery of transitions and genre mixing. I just love this band 🤘🖤
Yep, that's the one! Both these songs have been on an heavy rotation ever since I recorded this video, can't get enough. What a band 🤘🏻
@@akaalexanderking you will probably love their song Buiikikaesu too. Well really they don’t have any bad songs. Which is pretty insane lol
Also may I recommend a couple of other brilliant Japanese bands?
Sokoninaru: Gou Ni Moyu, Tenohira De Odoru, and Lament Moment.
A crowd of rebellion: Dystopia, M1917, Ill, and Satellitear.
Graupel: Fade Away, Bereavement, and Flashback.
PRAISE: Gostraight 2020, EBA, and Reason.
Nice, I was looking for a new batch of bands 😁 thanks!
@@akaalexanderking I have a very very very long list of great Japanese bands worth checking out. This was me trying my hardest to restrain myself haha But let me know if you need more suggestions!
@@akaalexanderking Massively second Sokoninaru, fantastically brilliant band that deserves way more recognition.
I also recommend Dir En Grey - Vinushka (live, english subs), one of the most intense performances I've ever seen.
Let's talk about the future noodle is generally the translation I've heard. This should be fun to watch. Dunno if you know the background: this song is a response by the band to fans that were upset the guitar player had lost a bunch of weight. He had gone through a period of changing his first and exercise habits because his doctor had told him if he didn't he was going to die.
So, as always it's a very funny song and video, but it's about very serious health issues. Just a typical MTH type of track. 🤣
Ahhhh, now the music video starts to make more sense ahahah. Thanks for the info, hope you'll enjoy the reaction :)
Yup. The part at the end where he's yelling into the megaphone he's listening health issues associated with obesity.
Adds an extra layer to an already fantastic song 👍🏻
@@akaalexanderking There is an English Sub version of this song. You can see what they are saying in the video. www.dailymotion.com/video/x6yf3uc
The song you already heard is called Yoshu Fukushu 🤘😊🤘
Yoshu Fukushu is about the guitar player being bullied in Middle School 🤘😊🤘
Wow, I feel like I really need to go back and look at the lyrics now. Thanks for the info!
Maximum The Hormone is the best. All of their songs are different and bangers, no dull moments! Very creative band yet not to many reactors, react to them. Please do more MTH, I suggest maximum the hormone (yes that's the name of the song) and A.L.I.E.N.
I think that's mostly due to copyright issues, but I'll try to do as much as possible :)
It's a wonderful combination of having fun so they appear to not take themselves seriously, but clearly taking what they do very seriously because there's a lot of skill and effort put into their songs to make the final product work so well
Well said, they clearly are great musicians
MTH is just awsome!
Amen 🤘🏻
I've been to their lives more than 10 times. It is totally MAD. Probably the best experiences in my life. I miss going to their gigs sooo much...
I can only imagine 😍
Another 2 Metal Bands from Japan:
Kiba of Akiba - My Personal Computer is dead - czcams.com/video/Sq840XN4-AE/video.html
Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu - Civilizations And Wars - czcams.com/video/e9dYfkgpqvU/video.html
Thank you :)
@@akaalexanderking If you want to hear some early Kiba...Check out the collab they did with Babymetal. "iine"
@@yolandria Uki Uki Midnight Cover is better :)
Sounds interesting... Thanks for the suggestion :)
I only heard 1 song from them until today and i loved it, i have to suggest it, its called "Zetsubou Billy" i think the translation means Billy in Despair. It was used in the popular anime Death Note if im not mistaken. I have to discover more about them because their approach to writing music seems very interesting.
Thanks and stay safe!
edit: i lied, i totally forgot i also heard this Akane's (Band Maid drummer) cover from MTH - czcams.com/video/KPgMD-nPITQ/video.html&ab_channel=h0merx
Thanks for the link Jorge :)
This is like 20 songs in one. My brain is being scrambled but I love it.
And all 20 are great 😍
Correction: Spotify has been updated with English names, but no sign of this song. Do they have their full catalogue on any streaming service?
"let's talk about menkata cottelee "
Only a subset of their music is on Spotify, iirc they don't really like streaming services.
Thanks for the info Sergof, hope the vinyls prices are not too crazy then 😅
They've moved labels so that makes it difficult
MTH FTW!🤟🎌
What.A.Band. 🤘🏻
This wonderful song wants to convey in the end is ...
"Eat as much delicious food as you like without worrying about your health"!!!
(I use Google Translate. sorry.)
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I've read on some reaction videos that on some of their songs even natives Japanese speakers have trouble understanding lyrics.
Also after listening to the Japanese scene for about half a year now I think I can cement MTH as my 3rd favorite band behind band Maid and the seatbelts. But I have so much more exploring to do
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Matt, the way they belch them out is very fast and aggressive ahahah. What a band!
normally i also like to watch the video in part of the screen for reaction videos, but with MTH i just thoroughly enjoyed watching your reactions since the MV has been blocked out for copyright reasons. MTH are fantastic! they have the best sense of humor even giving their own fans s#|t... you gotta check out A.L.I.E.N., Koi no Mega Lover, Koi no Sperma, Zetsubou Billy, Hungry Pride, this is a good start, so many others
Will do John, fantastic band so far 🤘🏻
@@akaalexanderking can't wait... i wish you success and happiness in your channel and your journey... to elaborate on the recommendations i gave:
- A.L.I.E.N.: another video with crazy changes in musical style and more tongue in cheek humor
- Koi no Mega Lover: another funny video where they can write a catchy riff yet make the song rock
- Koi no Sperma: you wanted to see a live performance, right? the crowd interaction, the synced headbanging, the funny dance... it's another catchy banger that they excel in writing
- Zetsubou Billy: a very early one with another great video, you can see the roots of what MTH would evolve into becoming, this one's so good they used it as a song for an anime called Death Note
- Hungry Pride: this is their latest song, they just haven't been as productive with putting out new stuff lately for a variety of reasons... even though they've been around a long time, they still haven't lost their stuff
That's amazing, a very handy little MTH bible 😁 thanks again John!
😘
Check out this song Hungry Pride by them. It's a banger.
Thanks Vincent, I'll surely will ;)
Yes, the lyrics is important, sometimes just nonsense sometimes sharp criticism of politics, which is rare nowadays in Japan, but anyway,, even for a Japanese, it’s difficult to discern words because they sing in Japanese but as if it were in English and very very fast.
Thanks Michinori, I did go and read them after. Knowing the context behind the song it really and a layer to the song
Especially rare considering so many jpop acts get used to push political narratives
But yeah the lyrics do a lot to make sense of the syle changes linking in perspective changes in a lot of their songs.
That's always a plus 🤘🏻
I see all the videos of MTH dozen of times, the reations, a couple of full live concerts (absolute brilliant MADNESS!) so, I will comment before seeing your reaction. Stick with them, maybe the first videos sound strange and let you off balance, unconfortable, even sick (yeah, the vomit is too much), but stick with them. Some reactors do "Alien" or this song and never again do another. Believe me, they are one of the most original, crazy, brilliant band and they have been around for 22 or 23 years now, trolling the music industry and even their own fans. They are big in Japan, but not known in the west, one of my favorites Japanese bands (very different to Band-Maid, Unlucky Morpheus and Lovebites, my other favorites).
I don't want to spoil the reaction too much, but I can tell you I had a VERY different experience compared to those reactors you mention 😂
basically they are the Japanese Frank Zappa. Not so much musically (although, arguably, there are parallels), but in the "does humor belong in music?" approach :)
Yeah, I can see that. Musically they really gave "being all over the place" a new meaning 😂
@@SocialNetwooky Maybe do you mean "no so much technically" because music doesn't restric to pure technic. That's why althoug there are millions of graduate in schools of music around the world, maybe dozens of millions of musicians with some level of technicallity in their instrument of choice, those who shine are a fraction of them. Thats why a running joke in the clasical music scene is "the critics outnumber the musicians and they will grow every day until no musician at all remains". AC/DC it's one of the simplest, least technical "big band" (I'm a huge fan), every guitar player can reproduce their technics just listen to them once. And still, they are AC/DC, one of the greatest rock band in history. There is quality in simplicity, and sometimes that it's the key. My opinion, of course (and no, I'm not a good english speaker so, sorry for the spelling and grammatical errors).
@@hernanuliana9111 well ... Zappa and MTH are not (for the most part) the same music style, that's what I meant. On the other hand, both Zappa and MTH do not "take themselve seriously" both in the lyrics nor the music, all the while often tackling complex and serious subjects.
"Does Humor Belong In Music" is the title of an autobiographical book by Zappa btw. :)
I think the title translates like this "Let's talk about the ramen with hard noodles and rich fatty soup now"
I'm already hungry
they are crazy in a good way. imho their best song and video: "A-L-I-E-N" czcams.com/video/TdwT5JlH8gM/video.html don´t miss!!! and great reaction, GG.
Thanks a lot as always for watching, can't wait to hear more!
It is worth to mention that NAO gave birth to 2 healthy children, every time returning to play drums. That is quite a level of dedication. No wonder She is role model for so many female drummers in Japan. That being said I would invite You to react to songs by BRIDEAR. If You like guitar driven metal - it is very worth to try. Would propose older Ignite czcams.com/video/LQIDqudG_DQ/video.html or latest Daybreak czcams.com/video/fiRMlf36ZtE/video.html
Thanks Piotr, pretty sure we'll get there this week ;)
「ポン・デ・リング 俺めっちゃ好き」とか言ってるとは夢にも思わんだろうな。
Sorry, I have no access to Google translate right now so I don't know what that means 😅
@@akaalexanderking There is a lyric in this song that says, ''I like pon de ring (the name of the donut) very much,'' but people don't expect to find such a lyric in a cool song.
Thanks a million :)
The Google translation is almost accurate, 'Let's talk about Menkata Coteli' is the actual title. I think it refers to the Ramen variation they start eating at the end of the clip.
The song you have seen of them before must be 'Yoshu Fukushuu'. It's a great introduction to the band, and don't worry, all their songs are just as crazy. ;-)
My next recommendations would be 'Hungry Pride' (written 『ハングリー・プライド』 in Japanese), which is more straightforward, but a real banger, and then of course 'A-L-I-E-N' (or 'え・い・り・あ・ん'), which has a heavy hardcore vibe, but then something happens that can't be explained with words. Needs to be seen.
And this is Yoshu Fukushuu: czcams.com/video/beN5ep5MrdY/video.html
Yep, that's the one, thanks!
Can't wait to check those out, I'm in for a journey 😁
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance] , SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], SPIRITBOX [Belcarra], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], and many more...
Thanks!
Spiritbox is a Canadian band, they don't even have any Asian band members.
Are they good?
@@akaalexanderking If you're asking me about Spiritbox, they're not really my thing but yeah they're pretty good. I wouldn't include them in a list of Japanese bands..
Makes sense not to 😂
The MV that you have talked at the beginning might be of 'Yoshu Hukushu'.
czcams.com/video/beN5ep5MrdY/video.html
One of their best IMO
Yes, that's the one! Phenomenal song
’麺カタコッテリ' generally means 'harder noodle, thicker soup'. A phrase often used for ordering ramen.
I wonder where Google translate got that from 😂
@@akaalexanderking ’これからの' means 'future' and '麺' means 'noodle', so Google translation is not so bad.
To divide 'カタコッテリ’ to ’カタ' and 'コッテリ', and recognize the former as an adjective for '麺' the latter as a peculiar informal adjective for food especially soup... We should not expect such a high grade of translating IMO
As a matter of fact, it's not enough being a Japanese to comprehend this but also being a ramen lover lol
Wow, fair enough then! 😁
This band and their label are hardcore about copyright infringements. You should be careful.
Noticed that already with the video, them and BabyMetal were the first to be problematic. Thanks for the warning :)
@@akaalexanderking Your big problem is the possibility of copyright strikes. You get three of those within a three month period, CZcams deletes your channel. Copyright blocks on the other hand, they're annoying but don't have that kind of consequence. I would expect generally you get blocks on either video or audio with Babymetal stuff. Maximum the Hormone videos have gotten people strikes many times in the past, but it seems you got a block this time, maybe there is a change of policy as far as they are concerned. I think it's still best to be cautious.
Just for the information of anyone who ever reads this thread, the difference is a copyright block is an automated process carried out by bots, whereas a copyright strike is a manual procedure that has to be carried out by an actual person.
Thanks Ben, that's really something to keep an eye out for. Needless to say that if a band gives me a strike they will never be touched again on the channel 😅
@@akaalexanderking If I ever hear word about strikes being given for any particular band, I'll drop a comment on whatever your current video is.
Really appreciate it Ben 👍🏻
Great reaction! Maximum the hormone is my favorite Japanese metal band, you can't go wrong with them.
Can you please do a reaction to the band HANABIE - "We Love Sweets"? czcams.com/video/G18yyvPCiTM/video.html
They are awesome ;)
Sadly, MTH's label copyright strikes almost all of their MVs. You might also want to add SCANDAL to your review list. or the last 15 years or so, they have been the top J-Girl band.
Everybody Say Yeah (live - Osaka Jo Hall) - SACNDAL czcams.com/video/HICS2CM2fqI/video.html
Thanks! They're there ;)
The level of transparency of the small video is far too low. Can't see anything.
It got obscured for a copyright claim, not my call on that :(
