Fr Heers, just curious about this. They are mentioned twice, in chapter 7 and 14. Taking this sequentially would add to 288,000. This is the exact number of King David's war divisions mentioned in the book of chronicles. Any related parallel or significance to this?

It’s a version of the Bible in the Syriac language.
I’m not certain how anyone could say that 144k just means a large number. However He can be very specific when we consider things like the construction of the Ark, the tent of meeting and temple. He can be equally vague, it’s always perfect.

The apostle Paul mentions that we are some sort of first fruits. These first fruits in the first century are the spiritual Isreal who have replaced the literal 12 tribes .

@@OrthodoxEthos, there is a vast number of Orthodox, not just Protestants who think the KJV is the best translation in English. The translators strove to make a translation that is also suitable and beautiful to be read aloud in church services. Yes, there are errors here and there, but it’s the best available in English. The key, is to read it along with the original Greek. The Church needs to take the KJV and leave its beauty, and only change it where it doesn’t agree with the original Greek NT and the Septuagint.

It’s just about the 12 tribes coming back to the faith as they all turned to pagan gods like natives for example ~ tribe of GaD.
How can you say the 144,000 is only symbolic? Does that mean all reference to specific numbers in the Bible are only symbolic? I find this hard to believe since our God is very specific in all things...12 tribes, 5,000 men when the loaves and fish were multiplied, the number of the beast 666, creating for 6 days and resting on the 7th. I could go on and on. Please explain how you can come to such a conclusion with Biblical evidence. Thank you.
This is mostly symbolic. I'm sure CZcams has Orthodox references to these things, or Google.
We follow the apostles and the fathers and the great Saints who have interpreted the Scriptures and the book of Revelation *consistently* for 2000 years. The patristic consensus. These men who had an experience of Christ, and they were like the eyewitnesses, the apostles, in their day.
Who are you listening to for your interpretation of scripture? Who are you trusting? Yourself or some contemporary biblical scholar?
St. Andrew of Caesarea in his commentary on Book of Revelation writes (my transliteration):

12 * 1000 = 12,000 sealed in each of 12 tribes of Israel, making total of 144,000 (12,000 * 12).
1) First multiplier 12 represents 12 Apostles.
2) Second multiplier 1000 represents multitudes of people (number 1000 represents long time in Rev 20).
3) 12 tribes are not literal tribes. Names of each of the Patriarchs of those tribes have actual meaning:
- Judah means "confession" - those who were confessing Christ,
- Reuben means "son of the vision" - those who a pure in heart, from beatitudes,
- Gad means "temptation" - those who were victorious over temptations,
- Asher means "blessed" - .... etc.
So, the total number is collection of multitudes of people who were virtuous in 12 different ways, seeds of the 12 apostles. Tribe of Dan is omitted as from that tribe the Antichrist will arise, and is replaced by the tribe of Levi that was not originally listed together with the 12 tribes. Also, Joseph is mentioned instead of his son Ephraim.
Have you heard of 70 times 7? Symbolic of how many times we must forgive others. Symbolism is used prevalently in scripture. 🙏🏼☦️

Which Bible is the proper translation from the Greek?
The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. With the approval and assistance from High Rabbi was written in Greek. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. The first Church was Orthodox Catholic Apostolic We Orthodox Christians use the original Septuagint Bible that contains original scriptures from both Old and New Orthodox means Righteous. Catholic means Gathering. Apostolic Jesus original Students July 16 1054 when Rome separated and founded Catholic Religion. They removed several scriptures and appointed Pope against Church council.

Can you explain when you say that it's not "condemned in the Bible?" Do you mean that it is not explicitly "condemned" in the text of the scriptures, or that it is actually included in the canonical books of Scripture, and thus not condemned? Because the Book of Enoch is NOT included in most canons of Scripture. As far as I can tell, only the Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo churches accept it as Scripture.
@@1970Akritasthe Etiopien orthodox church is a little bit diffrent since most of it is Coptic, they accept the first four councils not the rest wich makes a Problem and trust of the Church, in some cases they use the book of Enoch however it has been condemd by the church fathers, even in the councils if I remember correctly and if it’s condemd through the councils, it has then been condemd by the Holy Spirit, by God
So, this comes from a misunderstanding of how canonicity is treated by the Church Fathers and Councils, here are the 3 categories of canonicity:
Canonical (these are used in the Liturgy and are codified in the Holy Scriptures)
Apocryphal (these are disputed among the Fathers and, while they may have useful information, they are not accepted for liturgical use, but instead for careful study, Enoch falls here, being both advocated and condemned by some Fathers and for its being alluded to in some areas of the Scriptures)
Heretical (these are those books which are better off burnt, things like the Gnostic "Gospels")
The criteria that go into the determining of the Canon are patristic witness, the type of book that is being considered (whether it be instructional, as in the case of the Didache, or poetic, or some other type), authorship, historicity (in terms of the books own accuracy), and the attestation of the tradition of the Church (i.e. has this been handed down to us as part of the lectionary by the Fathers of the ancient church?)

The 144:000 are literal descendants of the tribes of Israel (Revelation 7:4) who will resist the Antichrist in tribulation and be killed (Revelaiton 13:7).
This tribulation-wrath (Daniel 9:27+2thessalonians 2:3-4) will begin AFTER rapture (1 thessalonians 4:17) - when the Christians have departed (Daniel 9:26+Romans 11:26).

You understand he is speaking to certain people, he isnt making a broad sweeping statement about all of mankind. Many times throughout the Bible God is referred to as our father.
Christ appeared to me in my home in the Spring of 2010. He spoke to me audibly and through visions, many times over a period of 7 weeks. Listen to me carefully. There are no symbolic numbers in the bible. The 7 Seals are actually 7 in number. The two witnesses are two in number. The 5 months in Revelation are 5 in number. And the 144,000 are 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel. Those who want to be smarter than God and change his words will have to endure severe chastisement. By the way, there were literally 7 churches in Asia Minor and the 7 letters of rebuke to them are recorded for you to read in order to heed them.

ew. Gnosticism. God created the human physical body and called it good. What this passage you quoted is speaking to is our corrupted physical bodies being made into incorruptible physical bodies. Man has always been and always will be an imbodied creature. Jesus demonstrates this when he returns to earth after his crucifixion in his perfected body and shows it is still physical by eating and drinking physical food as well as having the disciples feel his physical wounds. The father of mankind is the Trinity.
