Woody Woodburne penetrated a RN screen during a CAPEX exercise in the early seventies, which included the HMS Dreadnought their first nuclear submarine if memory serves me correctly, and "sank" the lot. Followed it by a signal to NHQ "David slayed Goliath and all the Philistines".
Yes there were Rhodesians that were crew on the Subs - Proud to say I was one of them.

Really interesting, the SAN role isn't all that well known. A late friend of mine, Capt Frank van Rooyen SAN, was involved to some extend in some of these actions. He was aboard the S.A.S President Kruger when on 18 Feb 1982 during anti-submarine training, she collided with the replenishment ship S.A.S Tafelberg & sank with the loss of 16 crew.

My father served in the south african navy 1944/45 mainly on. MTBs off the coast of mozambique where Portugal east Africa as it was, being a neutral country, supplied fuel to German uboats off bazaruto Island.
The sa navy tried to intercept the u boats but had to stay ourside territorial waters.
He told me the original owner of paradise Island whose name I think was jochiam alves made his fortune from this.
Not sure if my recollection is correct.
One thing I do remember from many years of reunions he had with the sa navy it was predominantly English speaking.

Let me guess Ken Flower knew about the ops and told the Brits?
Flower yes but Flower was working for MI6, MI6 the CIA the US and UK governments were all penetrated and compromised by Mossad. Flower was the leak, the UK was the enemy but ultimately Kissinger and Mossad were the glue that kept Nkomo and Mugabe's lifespans intact.
When there is treachery from within no country can stand. I cry for Rhodesia and what had happened. I am sure that country missed Ian Smith once that disgusting snake started showing his true colours. To this day I will not forgive those that have committed the ultimate treachery against Rhodesia. I am sorry that I never got to visit. I was invited so many times by a lady to join there family in visiting their grandfather whom owned a farm and he was a horse breeder as well. I pray for those who gave their lifes and for those who lost everything. I had the honour in serving at 4 Recce and to witness those men in action during training, for those that did not return I salute you as you were men I walked among and it was an honour to be in your company.

Is frequency hopping technique really an SA invention? This was patented by a lady in the 40’s, look up ‘Hedy Lamarr’. Maybe I misheard the talk, I am not trying to be critical. That section in the talk was very interesting. You properly could talk about that topic for a long time :)

I was arrested in Sierra Leone when doing a Survey: Taking pictures of the Wrecks in the Freetown Harbour. Had to destroy the film?
Sierra Leone under Siaka Stevens was a very paranoid place where people were attempting coup and counter coup. There's also the fact that the government in nearby Guinee merely refer to Sierra Leone as "la Guinee Anglaise".. More threatening was the fact that someone like Qadaffi had a grudge against Stevens and trained the likes of rebel Foday Sankoh in guerilla camps in Libya and funded their later rebellion in Sierra Leone. The intervention of the British in 1999/2000 was after the Brits tried to create a "3rd force" by solely arming the Kamajor hunters with SA-80s and cutting out the ruling APRC thus alienating Johnny Paul Koroma and creating "The West Side Boys". Long story short: There's a reason why some people get paranoid.

Ive known a few S'African marines, ParaBat and Recces. Israel are always vaunted by those with less of an overview as these great allies to South Africa and Rhodesia, helping them, arming them despite sanctions. The fact is that those activities were a big bulwark to their economy through the 60s 70s 80s and as allies, to this day, there is no comrade more treacherous. They were the missing ingredient who colluded with Kissinger and MI6, probably Flowers, and thwarted every strike on Nkomo and others. They actively worked against the Apartheid government and brought them down and the moment they did they ended up sitting pretty with far more control over S Africas economy and politics. What makes it worse is that noone in the media is allowed to talk about their treachery or their treacherous hand in terrorism, revolutions and regime changes that always seem to benefit them. Thus there is no realistic obstruction to their chicanery...
