I think what many are forgetting when claiming the Jedi are bad/evil, and that Kathleen Kennedy/Leslye Headland hate them is that we as the audience are not seeing the show from the Jedi's POV, we didn't see that flashback from Sol or Indara's POV, we saw it from the coven's POV, and in their POV, the Jedi were these outsiders who just show up to take their children away, and with the "full weight" of Republic law backing them. In the OT, our view of the Jedi were from Luke's POV, and he idolized them, meaning we did too. In the prequels, our view of the Jedi was perhaps a little more outside, but it was mainly from Anakin's or Obi-Wan's POV, and they were still the good guys. Same with the sequels, at least with Rey, in viewing the Jedi are these mythical figures and are the personification of good. But here in the Acolyte, we are getting various POVs, and that is why the picture of the Jedi is muddled, at least IMO.

I have a couple of theories that are probably more wishcasting than a genuine possibility. First is, yes, just like you guys have postulated, I think Qimir is the student and the actual master is still to be revealed (could still be Koril) or someone else we've yet to see. My other theory that's really out of left field that Laura is probably not going to like is that Sol will quickly realize that it's Mae and not Osha so he will turn back around to go save her while Qimir reveals the truth to Osha about that night (maybe by undoing a possible Jedi mind wipe, etc) which turns her to the Dark Side. In the meantime, Vernestra hasn't heard from her Jedi team in a while so she shows up to Khofar and dispatches Mae, Sol and Qimir thereby revealing herself to be the master and taking Osha as her apprentice and quashing this entire event with her influence to cover it all up and Ki-Adi-Mundi is none the wiser.
But, I also really liked Kevin's suggestion that a/the real Sith show up and quickly dispatches Qimir to show the real power of the Sith who are irritated at someone who might potentially blow their cover even as they've been scheming for a millennia.

      @ichigen511 Před 18 dny +2

I 99% agree with you up to Vernestra. Not sure the logistics of how Osha will become dark but I do believe she will.
Having said that if Vernestra IS the master Sith you will get props Vulcanerd. I never thought of that. I always saw Vernestra as there to explain the arrogance of the Jedi, by not letting the public know of the Jedi deaths, by not letting the High Council know what's going on. Now that I just said those two things out loud in my head it DOES seem like she could be the master. LOL! After all, she is sabotaging things from the inside. A very Sith thing to do.
Here's the kicker. This show is awesome just for the mystery. NOBODY. Nobody saw Yord and Jecki die in episode 5. NOBODY. That shit wrecked me I was NOT expecting it. We all saw red shirts and thought, they will die, everybody else will be ok. Nope.
Anyways, enjoying the show. Enjoying the theories. This is good Star Wars and I'm here for it. Cheers to you my fellow fan!

@@ichigen511 Hahaha, thanks for your enthusiasm! I definitely think it’s a super low probability, but a twist like it would be pretty mind blowing, I think. And explain why Vernestra’s been reluctant to be more open with their investigation, too.
And I’ve been enjoying the drip feed reveals and mysteries. We still don’t know what happened that night on Brandok, we still don’t know what Sol (and the other 3 Jedi) are hiding though I think it’s the common assumption the two are tied together, we don’t know who Qimir’s teacher/master is and we definitely don’t know how this is going to turn out.
Ultimately, this little event has to be hidden from history in some way, but will that be bc the Sith wipe everyone out including Sol and Osha/Mae? Or will it be erased for political expediency by the Jedi?
I’m definitely curious to see if the final three episodes can stick the lands if and, hopefully, they do.

The fight choreography of this episode was one of the greatest, we've seen in SW. The 1v6 type of fights rarely work in any movie hence why they used the trees as coverage. Twirling around with a sword was also done realistically in this fight. This is also thaught in fencing. It allows a swordsman to change his stance and tactics whilst staying in motion. It can confuse your opponent and increase the speed of your strikes. Jecki reminded me of Anakin. The hot headed Padawan ready to jump into battle. The twirling is an aggresive tactic which causes higher risk but also higher reward which fits her rage, we saw on screen. I loved the choreography of this episode and despite the criticism, a lot of other duels in SW wouldn't hold up under scrutiny especially if they're compared to this. I'm sure that if this was released for the Ahsokha show, most fans would claim these are one of the best if not, the best fight scenes in SW history. I think that expecting realism and non-goofy lines from SW is unrealistic since SW and Lucas have always incorporated such elements into the movies. And there are many examples even in fights scenes where realism is non-existent i.e. Vader slamming his lightsaber against a metal pole vs Luke. The writing however is horrible and so is the opportunity for fans to connect with the main characters. Somehow movies like Rogue One were able to do that and with the Acolyte it feels like they mean nothing.

I appreciate Rocha's deep cut about JP and I have a lot of thoughts on this primarily that Sith reasoning is specious when you even delve into it to any degree. Now, in the world of SW, yes, Jecki is part of a policing force and she's taken on the risks of being a part of that type of organization, but in a real world sense, Qimir's logic is very much akin to an abusive person who says, "Look what you made me do" to someone who provokes them even as they are the ones actually perpetrating the violence and committing the offense. Kind of like blaming a person who walks down a dark alley at night for getting mugged when you should be laying the responsibility at the feet of the mugger(s).
His reasoning that he simply wants freedom sounds good taken at face value b/c who doesn't want to be and live freely. It's rhetoric and what is it that he wants to do freely? To kill with impunity and create suffering and chaos wherever he goes? The kind of freedom he talks about has other modern parallels about people who decry their freedom being taken away even as it creates suffering and misery for those around them and who prioritize their illusory sense of 'freedom' over any damage it causes to anyone around them.
Also, ultimately, Qimir never takes any responsibility for anything he does, either. He kills Jecki (and Yorde) then puts the blame on Sol, etc. He wants 'freedom', but none of the responsibility that inherently comes with it nor to exercise that in any responsible fashion even as he will quibble with you what the definition of exercising it 'responsibly' is with more specious reasoning by trying to muddy the waters by engaging in 'both sidesism'. And this may be the problem with the Sith in general or maybe it's just Qimir, but a lot of their reasoning seems to be, "Why won't you just let me run around willy nilly indulging in my worst instincts and I will call any attempts to corral that an infringement on my freedoms or rights."
And where have we heard that before?

The main problem I have with the fanbase about Ki-Adi-Mundi saying "the Sith has been extinct for 1,000 years" was that his arrogant statement was fundamentally never true to begin with. Yoda says at the end of The Phantom Menace was "ALWAYS two there are...".
Last time I googled the word "always", because I thought I was losing my mind, google confirmed the word the way I have been using it all my life. "at all times".
Ki-Adi-Mundi has ALWAYS been George's poster boy for head in the sand not paying attention because he refuses to except the truth.
    1. He DISMISSES Qui-Gon who told the high council "I just fought a Sith warrior" by saying "oh no you did not!"
    2. He DISMISSES the female Jedi who said "maybe she (Mae) was trained by something worse (than a splinter group, s Sith) by saying "oh no that's not possible"
    3. He DISMISSES Sol who explained to the Jedi that "Mae doesn't know her master" by saying "oh no, that's not possible you silly boy".
Having Ki-Adi-Mundi in The Acolyte makes The Phantom Menace lore STRONGER and MAKE MORE SENSE as to why teh Jedi order let the Sith sneak up into teh Republic and take control. Sorry to logic to all the haters. But logic/truth doesn't care about your feelings.

Yo sorry but Qimir being a Sith (which he 100% is) does NOT break canon.
When Ki-Adi--Mundi says "the Sith have been extinct for 1,000 years" it does NOT mean that "the Sith have been extinct for 1,000 years". I will NEVER be able to comprehend the fandom that doesn't realize that Ki-Adi-Mundi is a knuckle head created by George Lucas to SHOW US the arrogance and denial of the Jedi Order. How is this not obvious?!?!?!
IF the Sith had been extinct for 1,000 years then how the hell do explain Darth Sidious and Plageuis. I fel like at this point you don't really even Star Wars. Sorry to be a little bit hater but it's befuddling to me. The Sith have ALWAYS been around, just in the shadows. Of course they have! Yoda proves this (and makes this truth canon) when he tells Mace at the end of The Phantom Menace "ALWAYS two there are...".
I thought I was going crazy so I googled the definition of "always" and just like I thought (proving I'm not a crazy person) ALWAYS means "at all times".
SMH at fans struggling with canon. If we're being honest George Lucas has been retconning in every one of the 5 movies he made after the orginal in 1977. Do I have to (very easily) point out all the retcons? At this point retconning is a Star Wars trope that George Lucas introduced to all of us. Also to be clear, having said all that, The Acolyte doesn't break a single thing. Especially given the fact that there are 3 more episodes to further prove my point. Have faith my young padawans. Star Wars is in good hands.

There’s no red lightsaber or any outward indications of a Sith and the term never comes up. Additionally, Vernestra says she thinks Mae was trained by a Jedi.
And-and, while we see what happens on Khofar... KAM isn’t there to witness any of it! So far, nothing has broken canon and people are freaking out. They’re picking on things just to pick on them and wind themselves up.

so … even in the revelation of their triumph… who’s triumph? the jedi did not triumph. does manny Yasinto think he is triumphant? ok so… it is revealed that Mae survived and got away with Master Sol. even in the revelation of their triumph you see, you see the depth of their resolve? you see the depths of their dispare? desperation? i know a lot of people don’t appreciate jordan peterson as a professor and clinical psychologist. i like the guy. i think he has interesting things to say about young men needing to take responsibility for they actions. it is my understanding that people who are pro trans people do not like him. my question is. is this a correct use of that quote or was it taken out of context ?

The story is all over the place the twins are the least interesting thing in the story. The wookie Jedi is a waste so far , he got witch marking all over his walls , what does it mean ? We'll never know he dead😂 the dialogue is still weak , but this episode Darth so serious was awesome!!! And the fights were cool but soon as the twins talk , it's get off my screen!!

Kevin's reasoning about Force sensitive kids being mini-nukes or Prof X just being a ticking time bomb is precisely why I was on Tony Stark's side in Civil War.

This was the first episode I rewatched. Positives: The fight scenes were great. Everything with Sol, Jecki, and Qimir was interesting. Pronoun and lgbtq wasn't inserted for no reason like other episodes. Negatives: Everything with the twins is junk and not interesting at all. The plot is a mess. Much of the dialog could have been written by AI. I'm in for the long haul to see what ends up happening with Qimir and Sol.

The action was ok. Could have been top tier Star Wars if I had been invested in any of the characters.

The Acolyte will end up as one of the most celebrated Star Wars shows next only to Andor. Just watch. There is something special about this show and I strongly believe that episode 5 will be remembered as one of the most special Star Wars moments in live action as the years go by. The Stranger has the potential to become an all timer when it comes to Star Wars villains.

I get the criticisms, but I certainly hope so. I guess my only worry is that once the series is complete, as good as it may be, how rewatchable might it be if you know all the secrets?
I love Knives Out, but I’d don’t rewatch it all that often, if you get my meaning.

So far this show is a 4/10 for me. But I feel like if they had edited this down and turned it into a movie it might be a 6/10 at least.

Thank you Kevin for bringing balance to the show calling her out with the recency bias and that wild duel of the fates take she had. It’s amazing how people can get so manipulated by lightsabers and other things to make them think this was a great episode. She really said duel of the fates was rivaled by the sabers fights in this show.

Acolyte has great fight choreography but there's not much else in the show.
The unmasking reveal felt like nothing because it unmasked a character the audience already didn't like or care about. The only really impactful unmasking would've been of Carrie Ann Moss's character.
That would've hit infinitely harder and on multiple levels because it would mean Jedi betrayal, witch/Sith infiltration of the Jedi (how many others could there be that infiltrated the Jedi as well? = The Thing level Jedi paranoia. How often has that been seen in SW?), and a clever fake death plot that fooled most of the audience. A genuine holy sht moment that Disney SW has been sorely lacking for years.
If you actually felt that a nothing reveal of such an inconsequential, forgettable character was a holy shit moment, you don't really know what the holy shit moment is. Sorry.
It was a Scooby Doo level reveal where the painfully obvious culprit turned out to be the bad guy. It was adolescent writing. And that got Laura and others on the show pumped?🤦‍♂That's genuinely embarrassing.
Then add that to the disappointment of:
    - feeling no attachment to most of the main characters.
    - a show based on increasingly uncompelling mysteries.
    - a show that makes itself feel frivolous with cartoon-length episodes: which is especially bad when compared to the near feature-length episodes of House of the Dragon, The Boys, etc. which feel epic in scope by comparison.
    - sets that look sets. Like small, cheap, obvious sound stages instead of being filmed on location or seamlessly on The Volume
So I don't know how this was the episode that turned it around for you. But if you just want more Scooby-Doo SW then keep hyping it and doing you I guess.

I think they are being blinded by the flashy lights ( John aside). I think the action was great and the deaths were needed. But outside of that it was pretty bad. People disappearing and showing up at the last minute, Sol just leaving the bodies of his comrades, Mai perfectly cutting her hair to match her sisters. Qimir being able to beat Sol and Jecki together, but then losing one on one. Mai changing her mind again after changing it last episode then fighting Jecki after she just said she was gonna turn herself in etc. it’s just not super well written to this point

I think the star wars magic is gone for me. Which sucks. I loved the movies and stories as a kid but the toxicity of the fans on both sides and the mediocre storytelling for the most part has taking its toll.

Hard to enjoy a show that’s god awful lol and it is important if they literally retcon the phantom menace. It ruins the whole line from maul saying at last we will finally reveal ourselves and the weight of the sith being gone for so long. And you have mundi in this show who’s on the council in episode 1. Leslie is trying to cause division. I quit watching the show after episode two. Only keeping up with reviews. Like why even have this show. Rather it have been focused on actual sith moving in the shadows trying to not reveal themselves but learning different things or even trying to pull off what sidious finally did. But always failing. I dunno.
