Turned my wife onto this song several years ago. She just loved it. Cancer took her out june of 2020. Everytime I play it reminds me of her. She will always be in my heart!
I hope you find some peace. God be with you.
Love you brother keep strong ❤❤
My sympathy for your loss.
I’m sorry you lost your wife. 💕😞
I feel for you, lost my Granddaughter to cancer in 2019 the hole will never heal. My heart goes out to you!!
Jim Stafford was always underrated !
Hot summer nights, we didn't have air conditioning, windows open and a young kid listening to his transistor AM radio...it was a special time.
Yup, I'm right there with you. Many times I would fall asleep with the transistor radio under my pillow which meant it was time for a new battery the next night.
Sounds like pure bliss
A shame so many folks didn't know how talented Jim Is.
100 percent agree with u
Exactly so many good songs.
My favorite has always been Cow Patty.

A Southern swamp does have a special ambience, with its smells, the heat, humidity, and plants. Haunting, sinister, but somehow romantic. Particularly at dawn and dusk.
I'm here bro NC SC swamp
It really is. I grew up in it in Louisiana, more on the water than on dry land. That's a great description.
The wetlands at our coastal wildlife refuge are pretty swampy, hostile terrain, but after nightfall, you hear all kinds of sounds and see those shy critters looking for food
The last line of the song, “Don’t come lookin’ again”, still gives me chills.
Gives me goose bumps
That is so true 🙂. Hopefully, he has a video of Wildwood Weed
This song is the swamp! Pelosihady tried building a fence around the shack to keep the evil in !!
Hello!!! ...right. 😁👍
That be right, you don't want to come looking again no , stay in your place I stay in mine !
I'm from Okeechobee
Florida & this story is true, the swamp is no place to mess around especially in Gator country, ✌️💘🔥💯☑️
Hey
Hay
Just a guess but are you related to Black Water Hati ??
I'm from Okeechobee too
My favourite Jim Stafford song and the line "...kept folks off the track of Haddie's shack in the back of the black Bayou." Awesome graphics, nicely done. thanks
For sure. You got the message this song is trying to make. Its also about judging someone we don't know just because their ways are different from our own. Its amazing how so many people relate to this song in so many ways. It will always remain a timeless classic because of that.

Amen to that.
You never know who might be touched by what we say or do so be careful to lift each other up so that we all can make life a good and wonderful thing.
And the moral and lesson of this story is; don't mess with Witches!! 🤣
Jim Stafford is some sort of demented genius. He fits an atmospheric ghost story and morality fable into four minutes, and it's musically striking too. The artwork fits nicely BTW.
Amazing how quiet and powerful...and creepy...this is. Can imagine him writing about contemporary issues in the same understated way. Way to go, Jim!
i think the song is fantastic& the artist knocked that way out of the park with the painting timed it just right to the song, keep painting🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
Yeah what's creepy about this song is not Hattie, it's how quick the popularity contest of those who are mainstream and Mindless the let out the cry, crusify!
I always thought Jim Stafford was WAY underrated as a singer/songwriter. This song is FANTASTIC!!! I saw him with The Smothers Brothers and Joan Rivers WAY the hell back in the very early 80's. This song always gave me goosebumps.
How about back in the late 60's, that when I first learned of him!
He was also one heck of a guitar player.
I would not call this singing

Been so long since I've heard this. Ballads are a lost musical art form . Music that told a story and moved ones ❤️. Mr Stafford was one of the best

I think this song defined the man's genuiss. It's one of the most artfully put together ballads I've ever heard.
Yes, this was a good start to Jim Stafford's genius, but I think Cow Patty takes it a step further.
@@cowgirlmoon I never heard that one though I can guess why. I'll have to check that out.
It's more of a poem aye!
Yes, but he makes subtle imrovisations in the music to support the mood of each statement which itegrates the two in a most tasteful manner.

The music is amazing!
Such an awesomely dark, wonderfully mysterious tune! Too bad nobody wants to do this kind of music anymore. Brings back memories of those Friday and Saturday nights cruising the main drag of town back in the seventies!!!
And 60s
I loved listening to this, so haunting and spooky with such a poignant message, lyrically brilliant and performed even better.
Always loved all of Jim’s music. An incredible talent.
I remember listening to this as a kid with a wild imagination. Creepy then, and just as wonderfully creepy now.
To quote Redbone's song Witch Queen....

"...but the talk got shackled by the howls and the cackles from the bowels of the black bayou."
This song never gets old. Love it. Great slideshow. Thanks.
Best line EVER!
I'm about five miles from the Black Bayou.
The swamp really is alive with a thousand eyes ....and all of them trained on you.
Jim could see words in a world no ones else could see. His way of delivering songs were so good.
Yeah! 😂 Jim could see wonders! Nice comment Shane!!!! Like the cricketer! 🤣Shane Warne!
Been lovin' this song for over forty years, and the visuals make it all the more special.

I Just LOVE This Song !!!
Happy New Year 2024 !!!
This tune has everything. The vocals, lyrics, and music combination unbeatable.
Also. Love to all the artists that did such a wonderful job putting this all together ❤
Wonderful Job with the video meshed with the song! Thank you. I have always loved this song since I first heard it years and years ago. "A parchment note they found tacked to a stump said, "Don't come lookin' agian"." Still give me shivers up my spine.
I never heard this song until summer 2019, when I was 50 years old, and now I can't stop listening to it.
My dad had it on a various artist 8 track tape when the tape broke did not here it for 30 years.
I can't believe I never heard this song before! Great job on putting the graphics together!
Remember seeing Jim Stafford every week on his variety show as a kid. He was always entertaining. Singer/ songwriter/ actor. I do believe that he performs in Branson,MO. along with other country greats.
Used to listen to this entire album over and over, waaaaay back when albums were a thang, haha. Love me some Jim Stafford. Thank you batlady2 for posting. Appreciate you.
Lived in Okeechobee for over 46 yrs. There is some spooky stuff off in these swamps.
jim stafford a blast from the past .. loving it
One of my all time favorites; grew up in Florida, spent a lot of time out in the Glades and around lake Okeechobee.
"It came from the Black Bayou"
There ain't much pride when you're trapped inside
A slowly sinkin' ship
Scooped up the liquid deep and green
And the whole town took a sip
Fever went away and the very next day the skies again were blue
Let's thank old Hattie for savin' our town
We'll fetch her from the Black Bayou
Party of 10 of the towns best men headed for Hatties shack.....
Said Swamp Witch magic was useful and good and we're gonna bring Hattie back...
Such a perfect song for our times, with preachers telling their flock that there's actual real witches in church with them.
This song was a favorite hearing it on radio. It's better with your visuals backing up the story. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Well I love Florida the best. I lived there for one whole year. If I had my choice of living any where in the US it would be Florida. I lived in an apartment that had a screened in balcony that looked out over this pond that had ducks, cranes, turtles, fish and even an aligator in it. At night I would sit out there and listen to all the night creatures singing their songs. I absolutely LOVED it!
You lived in tourist Florida. The natives live in real Florida a dcwe protect it any way we can

Well hello from St. Pete, Fl. C'mon down!
Haven’t heard this song since I was a kid WHAT MEMORIES 🥰🥰🥰
LOVE THE VISUAL EFFECTS!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Still rockin this song today lol. Good music never dies
I definitely remember this neat song from 1974 recorded by the great Jim Stafford.
For those that play and love guitar, there's some real cool chords in this song.
What a musical genius Jim was.... and STILL is.🎸
Haven't heard this in about 40 years.
Hattie wasn't evil, she just wanted to be left alone.
Get off my yard you kids!
doughesson Pretty much.
She was willing to co-exist with the townspeople, but she would NOT tolerate any snoopers.
WHAT s THAT NONSENCE
CO-EXIST AND MESS AROUND.
We only saw her when her Social Security check didn't clear.
My dad introduced me to this song many years ago. Now we both love it. ❤
I have never been in the Florida swamp, but in Louisiana, and MS'sippi swamp, it's creepy during high water, fog, when it is cold, and after dark. We had a houseboat in southern Ms'sippi, Pearl River swamp for many years. I could swear that during high water that I could see something just below the rippling water and hear the water whispering, early in the morning and right at dark. It seemed like it was whispering about or to me. It could have been just knowing how dangerous rivers and swamp are tho. I loved the river when I was young and unafraid, til I was about 45, but the older I got, I grew to dislike it
So true, I lived in Pearl, Miss. For 8 years back in the 70s👍✌
Teena Pittman , the Singing River? There are stories that you can hear it when the times are right.
"but the talk got shackled by the howls and the cackles from the bowels of the balck bayou" maybe the greatest double rhyme lyric ever. EVER!!!!

I've missed this song for nearly 40 yrs including the unforeseen natural forces.
That's what made this song come together so well.
I heard this song on the radio today, and hadn’t heard it for about 40 years! It was sooo good hearing it again! It’s just so dark and moody, and his voice is way better than I remember. Love the visuals here.
Hattie's still there, in the Black Bayou!!!!

I was driving past a swampy area today, and it reminded me of this song---which I couldn't remember the name of .I looked up "Don't come lookin' again", and there it was! Ah, the memories of 1968.....
Anyone know who is singing this? This is not Jim
I had every note and word of this song memorized when I was a kid. Still gives me goosebumps today. Love it! This would be the perfect end song for the movie version of Where the Crawdads Sing!
Hello how are you doing?
This slideshow brings the song to life like never before! Well done, batlady2!
Glad you liked it Doug and thanks for taking the time to let me know you did!
Yeah, great visuals but still not as good as the visuals in my head ;-)
@@batlady2 you are an artist for sure! The visuals so fit the song!!!
Great artwork to go with a memorable song from my childhood. As a tween, I would fall asleep at night listening to my clock radio, which didn't have a sleep function so it stayed on all night long. Once, I woke up from a nightmare very much inspired by this song that was playing at the time. To this day, it remains one of the creepiest experiences of my life!
The okeechobee legend lives on....
As soon as you hear the first few bars of this song, you are immediately transported to the deep South, where "the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes, and all of them watching you".

LOL! I remember the 8 track days. I was in high school and drove a little red Pinto that had an 8 track tape player in it!
'65 Malibu had an 8-track! I remember those days well!
I had 1979 pinto hatchback all glass
@@robbielawshe715 I had a 1974 pinto. Plain and red with black interior and a 8 track tape player of which I mostly played Creedence clear water revival on. I wrecked it when me and 4 of my girl friends were all going up to the lake. We walked around the emergency room in our bathing suites. One time we all piled into that car and skipped school. The Principle was standing out in front the school and saw us drive by. We all ducked including me. Next day the Principle called me over and said "funny thing happened to me yesterday standing out in front of the school. I saw a little red Pinto rolling down the street and no one was driving it! Imagine that!" I lived in a small town. No one else had a little red Pinto but me. I could never get by with any thing. I graduated high school in 1975.
My pinto was powder blue. Loved that car we went everywhere on $2 worth of gas.
Good old 8 tracks.

Same here man. I grew up in the mountains of Northern California cabin. We had no electricity, just a generator. My dad would play this song and he would tell me she lived in the woods behind the house. I would stay up for hours terrified, and looking out the window. Good times lol
