The 2020 Nissan Sentra is NOT the Same Car You Rented From Hertz

For many years, the #NissanSentra has been synonymous with the kind of car most people would rent at the airport and its interior design, exterior styling, and driving dynamics would reflect that. It would be easy for #Nissan to continue that trend for the all-new 8th generation but with annual sales hovering around 200,000 units a year, Nissan saw an opportunity to move the #SentraSR up market. For 2020, it rides on an entirely new and unique platform, has sleeker styling that is lower and wider versus the old one, and about 20% more power under the hood with nearly 40 MPG on the highway. The new #Sentra now looks and drives like a car that consumers would actually want to own, while being a few thousands dollars less expensive versus main rivals from Honda and Toyota.

Before the “No buy because it still has a CVT comments come in” here are a list of brand new compact cars that only come with CVT’s if you want an automatic:
    2020 Honda Civic
    2020 Toyota Corolla
    2020 Hyundai Elantra
    2020 Kia Forte
    2020 Subaru Impreza
    2020 Nissan Sentra
Cars that have traditional stepped automatics:
    2020 Volkswagen Jetta (8AT)
    2020 Mazda3 (6AT)
    2019 Chevrolet Cruze (6AT or 9AT)
    2018 Ford Focus (6 DSG)
Clearly, the CVT is the preferred transmission in this segment and between Civic, Corolla, Elantra, and Sentra about 1 million units are sold in America every year. If you want a regular stepped automatic, the only car from that list that actually has a good reputation for reliability is the Mazda3. If everyone hated CVT’s and wanted the most reliable car in the segment, than the Mazda3 should be the best-selling small car and it isn’t. Facts are facts :)

Well duh because it's cheaper to make and it helps with the stupid emissions regulations, our problem is reliability particularly Nissan's who are known for poor CVTS.
IDC how much CVTS are used, doesn't remove the fact most suck, and only exist because of mpg regulations to gain maybe 1-3mpg.
I'll stick with used cars the modern stuff can screw off.

It is a shame that Hyundai decide to put in CVTs for the new Elantra. Maybe if they make a redesign, they could give the Elantra an automatic. But even then the worst CVTs are hands down the Jatco ones in Nissan cars due to poor reliability.

I purchased this vehicle in early April and man am I loving it. I don't have the premium package unfortunately but i do have the orange w/black trim SR edition and its above and beyond anything i've ever had. My 1st vehicle ever was a 1994 nissan sentra so it was nice to go back to what I started with. The new design is great, i have heads turning everywhere. Workers at drive thrus restaurants complementing it. Every one of my coworkers have been giving it props. And it drives smoothly. Great on gas. My best drive so far was 42MPG on a 23 mile drive. I wish sound system was better but i'll upgrade it eventually. Although I'm having a hard time finding out the speaker sizes even with calling the Nissan people. No one seems to know lol.
For the price, fuel economy, 21k (which is what i got it for) is a steal.

Other key fobs are just too large and feel really lightweight and cheap, just look at Mazda's new key fob. They use to have one that looked like Nissan's. The only key fob that's better is Kia's detonator for the stinger.

And yes, Nissan has had some issues with CVTs, other have also had issues with them as well, and for some reason it hasn't hurt the other brands images. That said, Ford has had multiple issues with their DSG which has also led to a lawsuit, so there's no perfect choice if there is no manual options to be had with a majority of offerings in this class.
That said, the previous generation was a pretty attractive vehicle, and this is certainly much more appealing. Aside from those mentioned issues with CVTs, Nissan has otherwise very good quality which I'd say from experience at import dealerships is on par with its competitors.

Yes, in the PAST but this did not say JATCO transmissions are always crap. The 7 speed from JATCO is super reliable. Newer ones are far better, same here in Europe for the Qashqai/Rogue Sport with CVT. Cars from 2014/15 have some problems with the CVT, newer ones did not. Same with the DSG from VW and Ford.
