Yes I did dance when Gene Gene the dancing machine came on. In high school every day during my lunch break I ran home about 100 yards from my house to watch the gong show. If Gene Gene was on it made my day. I loved the gong show and everyone on it but Gene was my favorite. Kind of like with the 3 stooges loved them all but curly was the favorite. Chucky was right behind Mr Machine.
@@stevelillie3880 I frequently cut my last class (biology) so I could run home to watch The Gong Show. I passed with a B+, but don't ask me how as I was never there!
wow my mom never watched much tv but boy did she love the gong show, remember coming home from scheool and there she was watching and enjoying the show... thank you Mom, rip and love you
Cannot bring back classic entertainment like this. I enjoyed watching the Gong Show and honestly, Gene Gene, stoled every episode of the Gong Show. I remember this episode and man, it was so funny!!! R.I.P Gene. You are missed. I hope they bring this show on DVD.
I remember the first day this was on TV. My sister and I laughed out loud when we heard it was called the Gong Show. The way it evolved from what (I think) was supposed to be serious into endless, running gags was phenominal. My favorite was when this guy stepped out from behind the curtain to sing, only to be drowned out by the UCLA Marching Band. It should be on DVD,
summer vacations dancing away the morning with my older brother and sister. As soon as this song came on we went into immediate dancing machine mode. Thanks for the memories! I know my brotha is doing the machine in heaven.
We had an old bookkeeper who couldn't stand this show but the rest of us in the office watched it religiously. Maybe that's why little work got done for a half hour. This was when we had television that was fun and everyone lightened up. When you don't have all the pc that we have today, people really can have a great time.
Interesting sign on this episode. For those who don't know who Rogie Vachon is, he was an NHL goaltender. He started playing for Montreal in 1966, but was traded to Los Angeles in 1971. He would remain with the Kings until 1978. He played two seasons each with Detroit and Boston to finish his career. Now that I'm done rambling, I guess Chuckie must have liked hockey a little bit. In one episode, he had a New York Islanders helmet on, among other hats.
LOVED this show! When I was a cop on patrol, I tried to sch. my lunch break at my mom's so we could watch. Gene Gene most often danced on Fridays, and we LOVED him. And yeah, I am sure that Chuckie Baby had more than a little white powdery substance while doing this show....
I had forgotten how much I miss this show. I was working in a T.V. repair shop in 1977 and every chance I got, I would run to a nearby deli for some lunch and sit to watch The Gong Show as I ate.
Cancel Culture, Politically Correct and all the other offended people are to blame. This was entertainment. Now entertainment is Kardashian reality shows where everyone's fake drama spills out. Excuse me while I vomit.
“Sell spare ribs and blankets at a railway station;” today the phrase would get the Show pulled with lots of unfortunate meetings with the broadcast lawyers.
lookit that audience, just love it. a show so stupid it was a hit. never missed it. barris was in overdrive, jp morgan was lusty as hell. yeah, they were probably coked to the eyeballs...still, people really knew how to engage and have fun back then. we really did! i think i left my heart in the 70s. rip eugene patton. ♥
Don't know about everybody, but Chuck didn't do drugs - everyone who worked with him has said that. Pretty awesome how charismatic someone like him can be!
Oh yes these were the days Mid 1970's home during the summer drinking soda and watching the Gong Show. What else could a 10 year old boy want? And who's better than Gene Gene The Dancing Machine ? No One BTW I dance about as spastic as Chuckie baby does(lol)
this show used to be on every day after school it was the stupidest thing ever, but it was often hilarious. Gene Gene the dancing machine was the janitor who was dancing while moping the floor and Chuck thought it was funny, so he put him on the show people loved him, so they kept bringing him back.
Some comments here got it right. The band is playing “Jumping At The Woodside”. Some posts have it misidentified as “One O’Clock Jump”. Both were Count Basie compositions written in the late 1930’s. The most popular versions of both were recorded by Benny Goodman’s band, not Basie’s, although I think Basie did the original arrangements that Goodman used. Both songs have become jazz band standards.
The Gong Show Rules!!!! Best "Reality Show" Ever Made!!! No one have not topped this one at all... American Idol, America Got Talent, And/Or X Factor (And any other show I forgot) Does not have nothing on Chuckie baby and Gene Gene The Dancing Machine!!!!! Maybe I should host the next Gong Show!!! I can do a mean impersonation of Chuckie!!!! (LOL)
This show is so 'real'... American Idol didn't even have a real band like The Gong Show did and all involved had fun during the show... Where's the full DVD set, Mr Chuck Barris?
@JTZissman I think that it was a couple of ladies trying to sing some type of Hawaiian song when that happened. It was during a primetime special that aired in 1977.
That audience is having the most fun a game show audience ever had
Can you imagine a guy taking his date out to the Gong Show!?
He'd be a keeper ;)
The late 1970s, an era of 100% total fun and positive energy!
when I was a kid, I'd watch this show just in the hopes that Gene Gene was gonna dance!
How many of you danced along with Mean Gene? I sure did. What a great show!
I also did.

First time Gene dancing, my dad chased me around hitting me with a newspaper! I didn't stop till Gene was done!📰 😂 Good times!
There has NEVER been ANYTHING like The Gong Show!!!! There never has and there never will be!!!!! Long live the 70's and long live CZcams!!!
Chuck just looks like he has so much fun doing the show. Love his shuffle when Gene starts dancing.
wow my mom never watched much tv but boy did she love the gong show, remember coming home from scheool and there she was watching and enjoying the show... thank you Mom, rip and love you
May your mother rest in peace.
My mom and I used to watch the Gong Show after school too. We loved seeing Gene The Dancing Machine!
My sentiments exactly, me and my moms watched this all the time when I was a kid. Rip to both our moms 💔💙
Gene made it possible for all of us to be "Dancing Machines!!" That was important back in the 70's too...lol
I love the crowd shots! Gene Gene the dancing machine lives on forever!
Oh man, I loved this show back then as a kid!! Still do. Puts Dancing With The Stars and all the other modern day "talent" show crap to shame.
Remember innocence and fun?? Sure do miss those days!!
Everyone alive in the 70s misses those days. Much better times.
Nothing innocent about Jaye P Morgan. But I do love her!
This show was just fun!! Made us feel good! Loved Chucky baby.
Before American Idol and America's Got Talent there was The Gong Show. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
Gene Gene the Dancing Machine was always the best part of the show.
Great old fashioned fun!!!!!!!! Excellent stuff! Wherever you are Gene, I hope you're still dancin!!!!
I watched this whole video with the big smile on my face, the Middle and ending were Epic 😁
This show was nuts and I loved every minute of it.
Every clip I watch, Chuck has a new hat.
Badass.

No other audience had as good a time as the Gong Show.
love the way the audience reacts when Gene comes on. Everyone looked forward to it!
The good old days ❤️
This show is why these other shows today are on the air. Thank You Gong Show
We'd all get up and dance when Gene hit the stage. Lol.
Ah! When America was a fun place to live in.
summer vacations dancing away the morning with my older brother and sister. As soon as this song came on we went into immediate dancing machine mode. Thanks for the memories! I know my brotha is doing the machine in heaven.
This was such a GREAT SHOW i never missed a viewing!!!!!!!

This brings back childhood memories
This was happy times just look at that audience. You don’t see that now.
You got that right!
One of the most brilliant shows one US teevee ever.
Loved this show one of the greatest of its time

He also frequently wore a Philly Flyers jersey (he was born and raised in Philadelphia).
Gene Gene the Dancing Machine! Great moves and even Chuck Barris and the audience would get in on the fun. I miss those guys and the show as well...JP
When I was a kid I really loved this show !!
LOVED this show! When I was a cop on patrol, I tried to sch. my lunch break at my mom's so we could watch. Gene Gene most often danced on Fridays, and we LOVED him. And yeah, I am sure that Chuckie Baby had more than a little white powdery substance while doing this show....
in fact Chuck despised all drugs and would not allow any drugs anywhere near his show
He also claims he was a hit man for the CIA 🤣.
MEMORIES...THANK GOD WE HAVE THEM
I had forgotten how much I miss this show. I was working in a T.V. repair shop in 1977 and every chance I got, I would run to a nearby deli for some lunch and sit to watch The Gong Show as I ate.
Gene Gene the Dancing Machine ! Puts Travolta to shame.
😁
Now that song is stuck in my head,
The spare ribs/blanket joke would never get past sensors today.
When life was fun! And no one got offended and we had our innocence.
Cancel Culture, Politically Correct and all the other offended people are to blame. This was entertainment. Now entertainment is Kardashian reality shows where everyone's fake drama spills out. Excuse me while I vomit.
That show was 50 years ahead of it's time!
This show was pure, unbridled fun. Well, unbridled fun, anyway. 😏
I think KC and the Sunshine band wrote " Im Your Boogie Man'" in honor of Gene Gene the Dancing Machine
“Sell spare ribs and blankets at a railway station;” today the phrase would get the Show pulled with lots of unfortunate meetings with the broadcast lawyers.
Still the best show ever
Good question, RodAlonzo. I would buy DVDs of the Gong Show in a heartbeat.
lookit that audience, just love it. a show so stupid it was a hit. never missed it. barris was in overdrive, jp morgan was lusty as hell. yeah, they were probably coked to the eyeballs...still, people really knew how to engage and have fun back then. we really did! i think i left my heart in the 70s. rip eugene patton. ♥

What a grand way to honor Rogie Vachon

The band always smoked on this tune, nice solos.
America's got talent the early years
Good stuff !!! 😊
I used to love this show !
holy shit that's entertainment!!
There's a great injustice in the world in that Gene-Gene's music is not as universally recognizable as Yakkety-sax.
i cant believe this actually existed... only in america haha
Chuck and gene made the show.
So stupid but so funny. I miss Gene Gene The Dancing Machine. I am here to update this footage.
Rogie Vachon was the goalie in the first NHL game I saw in person
Diggin the Razorback hat
love it
EXCELLENT-!!!!!!!
I read somewhere that Chuck actually hated doing this show, but it work and it was money.
We all liked it, but Gene was already a stagehand working for NBC.
Good STUFF
Confessions of a dangerous mind
Heaven will be one giant galactic Gene Gene the Dancing Machine...
The song is Jumpin at the Woodside.
Almost every game show is derived from this show but without the fun.
The Gong Show Rules!!!!
Best "Reality Show" Ever Made!!!

I was just a kid when this was on TV, so I didn't understand what cocaine was yet.
This show is so 'real'... American Idol didn't even have a real band like The Gong Show did and all involved had fun during the show... Where's the full DVD set, Mr Chuck Barris?
if anyone had to inturrupt by chance on a game show, Id want it to be Gene.
best song evah
@bobby8168
Amen Bro I was 6 and dancing in front of the tv!
Gene did the “ moon walk” before Michael
@JTZissman I think that it was a couple of ladies trying to sing some type of Hawaiian song when that happened. It was during a primetime special that aired in 1977.
People be so serious now a days (myself included). Great to go back to good clean fun no pc or rainbow shit just good American comedy/clean corny!
MG RULZ!
Chuck Barris was coked to the gills! Lol
Be honest--weren't we all entertained?? There were some laffs there!
Dude built an empire on this nonsense!!!
Touche....yet Game Show Network took it off so they could load their schedule with mostly sewage.
🕺💃🕺💃🕺
the "bad s--t" was called taste and originality.
i wasn't blaming chuck... i was asking because i want the set so who else would i ask? Gene Gene the Dancing Machine?
The precursor to American Idol
I wonder if gene gene the dancing machine was like Phyllis diller to Bob Hope aka the comic relief
Every single person in that studio was high A F
looks like they left chico and the man in the dust!!!!!!
