      He didn't leave because he lost motivation he left because the league asked him to leave until the heat dies down. What heat? Michael had a gambling problem. His father was murdered because of michaels gambling habits. The league asked him to leave before stories starting coming out linking his fathers murder to michaels gambling. So he went and played minor league baseball for a few years. The plan was always for michael to come back to the NBA, which of course he did, which of course proves he hadnt lost any motivation to play basketball.

      They would have won the title in 94 and 95 too b/c no way in hell was the knicks and magic beating them in the east and the rockets were sure as hell not beating them in the finals so there is 5 straight titles. He comes back and wins it in 96-98. So there is 8 straight titles. No way the knicks were beating them in 99 nor were the spurs in the finals. So there is 9 straight titles. 2nd greatest dynasty ever behind the celtics in the late 50s and 60s

The whole reason people started talking about if he was the goat was cuz he said "I have nothing left to prove" they spent the entire off season talking about if he could be considered the goat, that's what sparked the wilt interview where he said Jordan couldn't be the goat because he was playing in the expansion league.

His dad had just been murdered and he was burned out. He’d say later that his dad had always wanted him to play baseball and he had been a good baseball player. He didn’t feel he had anything left to prove in the NBA and wanted to step away. It took a couple years for him to work it all out and get the urge to play and prove himself again. *17 months later, March 19th, 1995...*
    Bob Costas: "And that day has arrived. Michael Jordan warming up at Market Square Arena more than 3 hours before today's scheduled tipoff. 21 months have passed since Michael Jordan last played competitive basketball. For 21 months, the NBA was without it's supreme artist. There may be many interesting peripheral aspects to both his departure and return, but at the heart of it is simply this; The Best in the World is back, and in a sports world darkened by constant talk of money, strikes and lockouts, here's a shining reminder of why we're drawn to sports in the first place. The drama, the anticipation, the sheer beauty of the moment. Today, an artist returns to his true canvas: The hardboard courts of the NBA. Michael Jordan is back."

When he quit the first time, he said " I reached the pinnacle of my carrer". He stated he was done and when he failed doing other stuff, he made a comeback, succeded with a lost against Orlando, and then a 3peat, and then retired again. Then cameback again and lost with the Wizards. A GOAT dont stop no matter what happens in life. MJ got a well deserve pass. But not my GOAT because a GOAT does not quit so many times.

  • @omieg89
    @omieg89 Před 7 lety +7

    None of this makes sense. He says that he still loves the game of basketball and will still play it but not in the NBA. The reason he is retiring is that he has lost the sense of motivation or purpose. He says that he knows that he is missing out on extra championships. And we're supposed to believe that he is a psychopathic competitor.
    He says that this gives him more of an opportunity to be unselfish and spend more time with his family. Yet, he goes and gets another job that is just as time consuming as being a pro hoops player. He becomes a minor league baseball player which requires even more practice and more time away from the family.
    And then he says that his father's passing had no impact on his decision and a lot of MJ fans cite that as his main reason for leaving.

    • @bullsnation4990
      @bullsnation4990 Před 6 lety +6

      omieg89 he also said he would have retires even if his dad was alive because his father tried to get him to play baseball and baseball was his first love. His dad tried to get him to retire even when he won his first championship but Jordan said he still had more to prove. He even wrote a book during the summer of 92 during the Olympics that he would retire at the end of the 93 season. Even during the 93 finals jordan said he was talking about retirement he said hes not gonna leave because of anyone or anything he was leaving on his own terms

    45:49 IF DAVID STERN LETS ME BACK IN THE LEAGUE.....
    Michael Jordan had a ... very close relationship with gambling.
    Stern was never bothered by the fact that Jordan was a gambler, but he was bothered by the fact that he was betting on NBA games or even Bulls games.
    So, it was Stern's idea that Jordan should stop basketball for 2 years.
    In this way, Michael escaped any serious problems with the judicial authorities !

    everybody who's a fan of Michael Jordan should KNOW that his father was murdered
    Because Michael failed to honor his gambling debts
    Michael's first retirement, and joining MLB - was all fucking public relations damage control - they needed to generage buzz in a different direction, and once the heat died down, and once space jam was made and he was completely re-marketed to the youth - he was free to join the league once more, cmon mang - EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS
    and they don't mention any of this currently in the last dance btw

    The gambling suspension theory sounds great, but it doesn't add up. Everyone knew that he was a compulsive gambler, but no one found any evidence that he bet on games. I don't think the league could've covered it up, if they had attempted to do so. Also, if they did cover it up, why is a 1-year suspension an agreeable punishment? Couldn't they have faced more trouble down the line if he continued to gamble on games after he returned?
    Look, I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be true, but there are still too many holes in the story right now...

      I just want to know what the point of secretly suspending someone is. Like isn't suspension the whole point of disciplining the player/person for what they did and use them as an example? Who the fuck in their right mind would suspend the face of the NBA and probably the biggest or 2nd biggest person in the world at the time and keep it a secret? They would use it as an example. Plus if it's secret, Stern basically fucked himself because the league lost money those 18 months MJ was out. NOTHING has ever come out that Jordan was betting on NBA games or Bulls games or anything like that. Plus he gambled when he came back so that conspiracy shit is weak.
