None of this makes sense. He says that he still loves the game of basketball and will still play it but not in the NBA. The reason he is retiring is that he has lost the sense of motivation or purpose. He says that he knows that he is missing out on extra championships. And we're supposed to believe that he is a psychopathic competitor. He says that this gives him more of an opportunity to be unselfish and spend more time with his family. Yet, he goes and gets another job that is just as time consuming as being a pro hoops player. He becomes a minor league baseball player which requires even more practice and more time away from the family. And then he says that his father's passing had no impact on his decision and a lot of MJ fans cite that as his main reason for leaving.
omieg89 he also said he would have retires even if his dad was alive because his father tried to get him to play baseball and baseball was his first love. His dad tried to get him to retire even when he won his first championship but Jordan said he still had more to prove. He even wrote a book during the summer of 92 during the Olympics that he would retire at the end of the 93 season. Even during the 93 finals jordan said he was talking about retirement he said hes not gonna leave because of anyone or anything he was leaving on his own terms
I wasn’t hating on MJ when I wrote that comment two years ago. I just found the entire thing fascinating. Can’t imagine all the stuff that was going through his head at that time.
First retirement the media and his father's death drove him out of the game. Second retirement stupid owners and management drove him out of the game depriving us of his prime for another few years. Third retirement age finally caught up to him.
45:49 IF DAVID STERN LETS ME BACK IN THE LEAGUE..... Michael Jordan had a ... very close relationship with gambling. Stern was never bothered by the fact that Jordan was a gambler, but he was bothered by the fact that he was betting on NBA games or even Bulls games. So, it was Stern's idea that Jordan should stop basketball for 2 years. In this way, Michael escaped any serious problems with the judicial authorities !
Why Jordan? Could have been 8 straight titles the greatest dynasty of all time and could have faced...against the rockets would have been a great series 7 games and my Spurs in 1999 that’s would have been the greatest finals ever would have been 7 games
Not a good argument... anything could have happened had he continued to play.. stepping away from the game and coming back to win 3 more is a brilliant way to write a nice story.
I AM UTTERLY AMAZED AFTER READING THE COMMENTS everybody who's a fan of Michael Jordan should KNOW that his father was murdered Because Michael failed to honor his gambling debts Michael's first retirement, and joining MLB - was all fucking public relations damage control - they needed to generage buzz in a different direction, and once the heat died down, and once space jam was made and he was completely re-marketed to the youth - he was free to join the league once more, cmon mang - EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS and they don't mention any of this currently in the last dance btw
I did'nt know that...i knew there was something fishy about his fathers death, i thought it was more sinister, but that makes sense what u said, thanks for sharing that.
The gambling suspension theory sounds great, but it doesn't add up. Everyone knew that he was a compulsive gambler, but no one found any evidence that he bet on games. I don't think the league could've covered it up, if they had attempted to do so. Also, if they did cover it up, why is a 1-year suspension an agreeable punishment? Couldn't they have faced more trouble down the line if he continued to gamble on games after he returned? Look, I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out to be true, but there are still too many holes in the story right now...
Jose Carranza so if it was found that he was gambling on games, they only suspended him for a year and a half? Why? And if Stern was scared that the story on Jordan was about to break, why didn’t it break at all?
I like how he says I'm retiring from the "NBA but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to play basketball somewhere else". Dude, sat out his suspension outside of the NBA
@@nicksabahi6551 Wow...this is a shock....so just to be clear it wasn't his father who had the gambling problem....as I've heard that the reason his father got murdered was because MJ didn't want to carry on paying for his fathers gambling addictions.
You're here because of the Buzfeed video arentcha? 1. Did he leave because of his father? 2. Did he really get suspended for gambling? 3. Why did he come back? 4. What sports organization would put all of their efforts into one player? 5. What risk did the NBA take? And what did they gain out of it?
I just want to know what the point of secretly suspending someone is. Like isn't suspension the whole point of disciplining the player/person for what they did and use them as an example? Who the fuck in their right mind would suspend the face of the NBA and probably the biggest or 2nd biggest person in the world at the time and keep it a secret? They would use it as an example. Plus if it's secret, Stern basically fucked himself because the league lost money those 18 months MJ was out. NOTHING has ever come out that Jordan was betting on NBA games or Bulls games or anything like that. Plus he gambled when he came back so that conspiracy shit is weak.
jordan won 3 in a row, retired for 1.5 years because he lost motivation, then came back and won another 3 in a row. undisputed GOAT

I heard he had to leave due to his severe gambling problem getting him into trouble.
I mean thats life bro hahaha u grow up and u made decisions , i think the people always want to speculate more than it is
I wasn’t hating on MJ when I wrote that comment two years ago. I just found the entire thing fascinating. Can’t imagine all the stuff that was going through his head at that time.
5:00 "I'm not sure who it is" 🤣🤣
I sure he decides to come back, and soon.
Can you imagine if kobe or LeBron retired early? What would their career had been? If they came back would they still have been successful?
The White Sox was calling him...
First retirement the media and his father's death drove him out of the game. Second retirement stupid owners and management drove him out of the game depriving us of his prime for another few years. Third retirement age finally caught up to him.
why did it happend why!!!
I carry no grudges🤣🤣🤣
45:49 IF DAVID STERN LETS ME BACK IN THE LEAGUE.....
Michael Jordan had a ... very close relationship with gambling.
Stern was never bothered by the fact that Jordan was a gambler, but he was bothered by the fact that he was betting on NBA games or even Bulls games.
So, it was Stern's idea that Jordan should stop basketball for 2 years.
In this way, Michael escaped any serious problems with the judicial authorities !
Nothing wrong with gambling it’s the addiction that’s the problem it destroys a person life. Gambling is legal in almost all countries.
Good post Jason! Y'all can see that MJ had bags under his eyes, damn, looks different 20+ years later. Makes you think life is really a bitch!!!!
He is a clone

Why Jordan? Could have been 8 straight titles the greatest dynasty of all time and could have faced...against the rockets would have been a great series 7 games and my Spurs in 1999 that’s would have been the greatest finals ever would have been 7 games
H DLT Not 8 straight titles, he would have just retired by 1995 or 1996, he would have tired sooner.
Not a good argument... anything could have happened had he continued to play.. stepping away from the game and coming back to win 3 more is a brilliant way to write a nice story.
I AM UTTERLY AMAZED AFTER READING THE COMMENTS
everybody who's a fan of Michael Jordan should KNOW that his father was murdered
Because Michael failed to honor his gambling debts
Michael's first retirement, and joining MLB - was all fucking public relations damage control - they needed to generage buzz in a different direction, and once the heat died down, and once space jam was made and he was completely re-marketed to the youth - he was free to join the league once more, cmon mang - EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS
and they don't mention any of this currently in the last dance btw
Clayton C. It does add up, you’re just in denial. Typical jordan ass kisser.
Jose Carranza so if it was found that he was gambling on games, they only suspended him for a year and a half? Why? And if Stern was scared that the story on Jordan was about to break, why didn’t it break at all?
Clayton C. It did break lol
Jordan didn’t pay off his gambling debts on golf games, he would lose hundreds of thousands on golf games.
Jose Carranza yo you sound stupid as fuck!!!! Then why in the world would the mlb take him in and risk everything they had?
Says the cowboys fan 😂😂

I like how he says I'm retiring from the "NBA but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to play basketball somewhere else". Dude, sat out his suspension outside of the NBA
Why it seem like Jordan about to cry like he saying things he doesn't really want to say

45:50. "if David Stern lets me back into the league" you know that means right???? Suspension plea deal..the coverup..he was the cash cow.
Sucks comming to read these comments and find out this might’ve been rigged ?

Wow...this is a shock....so just to be clear it wasn't his father who had the gambling problem....as I've heard that the reason his father got murdered was because MJ didn't want to carry on paying for his fathers gambling addictions.
His roasting of the media was very Trumpist. Vultures can't respect anyone's privacy.
MJ Did not retired David Stern kick him out the league for 1 season as a Punishment for gamboling
Franklin Clinton he was out more than 1 season though. He was out for like 1 2/3 seasons.
Franklin Clinton That makes no sense!!
Jordan gambling scandal comes out, Jordan's dad is murdered and then magically retires. ( smells very 911ish)
Franklin Clinton Yeah and thermite paint caused 9/11... You realize how dumb you sound right?
