This is actually based on a true story. Guy Goma turned up to the BBC for a job interview but in a case of mistaken identity was accidentally put on live television and asked questions about technology. He was mistaken for technology journalist Guy Kewney. Guy Goma did do the job interview later but sadly he didn’t get the job. It’s on CZcams you can watch the interview and the look on his face when he realises he’s on live TV is hilarious 😂
czcams.com/video/e6Y2uQn_wvc/video.html retrospective on BBC done 10 years later. Best bit is that Guy was a computer technician
Just search for a CZcams clip of it titled "Guy Goma: 'Greatest' case of mistaken identity on live TV ever? BBC News", or the original clip with the professional presenters introduction at "Guy Goma - The Wrong Guy: BBC News May 2006"
czcams.com/video/e6Y2uQn_wvc/video.html
He actually did amazingly well given the situation, and they didn't even pick up on the fact he was the wrong guy while on air! Nice work Guy! 😁👍
I was going to write this my self.
IT stands for Information Technology
But it didn't rhyme with erection
😆
The title is also an ironic play on "The It Crowd", meaning people who are social, popular and in high demand
Yeah That was funny ... but Ill cut them some slack
In sea parks???
"IT = Internet Technician" is the most Jen statement imaginable. :)
American Idol is based on a show called Pop Idol.
The incident with Moz at the news interview is based on a real incident.
The BBC meant to interview an expert on a news item, but due to a mix-up actually spoke to a guy who'd come for a job interview!
It's hilarious because at first you see the realisation on his face about what has happened, but then he just decides to play along with it! Brilliant TV!!!
Edit: Getting sick of overly aggressive responses regarding Moz - or Moss if you prefer. Don't bother correcting me, I'll just block you.
Shows develop from script to screen. I don't care how the name was written, use your ears and listen to how they pronounce it.
That video is still on youtube somewhere. Its priceless.
Google "Guy Goma interview"
Moss, not Moz
@@anneonimous9306 His surname is Moss, but his first name is Maurice, abbreviated to Moz.
@@eviltwin2322 Nope, read the official scripts, they all state the character as Moss, never Moz.
If you like Matt Berry (Douglas Reynholm), you should check out 'Toast of London' where he plays an absurd actor.
Or 'What we do in the Shadows', another nice series!
Don't forget Darkplace!
Toast of London is amazing.
He is amazing in Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimers 'House Of Fools' Series, his character is almost the same as Douglas Reynholm
He also does a voice in Disenchanted, which is amusing.
I love coming back here for more IT Crowd. It is the most rewatchable show I've ever seen. Feels great to have someone else reacting to it for the first time :D
An interesting aside, Jen "Katherine Parkinson went to drama school with Roy "Chris O'Dowd." Chris was in and suggested Katherine to the producers as they were having a hard time casting "Jen." This is one of those shows that you could never imagine another actor playing any of the lead roles! The Casting folks definitely nailed it!!
Sarah Hadland who played the divorced and very "interested" woman in the last episode "The Dinner Party", auditioned for Jen. She might have been able to pull it off. But yeah, it would be hard to beat Katherine.
"MY TITS ARE ON FIRE!"
I.T. = Information Technology
No need to apologise for Iraq. Bush and Blair are to blame.
Yep, let's not let our bloodthirsty politicians off the hook
I was about to say the same - we don't blame America, we blame Blair and Bush as individual leaders. If they stood a chance of standing trial for what happened, I think a vast majority would agree the individuals responsible should.
Have you seen the Bush Freudian slip video where he admits to war crimes on that war? It's funny as anything lol
I didn't know Bush and so only heard people blame Blair for it
they might have been vindicated if there were WMDs but they overstated the threat and manipulated the public.
The actor that plays Denham renham used to do a spoof news programme called brass Eye. Might be worth a look
"Shark Tank" is actually a sold UK version of "Dragons Den" which came first. Dragons Den was based upon a Japanese show called "Tigers Of Money" orginally.
"American Idol" is a sold format by Simon Cowell's company "Syco" & was based on the UK's "Pop Idol" which again came first in just the same way, "America's Got Talent" came after "Britain's Got Talent" as well.
"Dancing With The Stars" also is a BBC LA production of the UK's "Strictly Come Dancing" they use the same theme tune & set design + one of the UK judges which used to be Len RIP but is now Bruno.
In 2024 we have just taken the rights format to remake the quiz "Jeopardy" in the UK with Stephen Fry as host on ITV1
Just about every quiz show, game show, reality show, and talent show in the USA is based on a British show, usually by ITV.
It'd have been easier to name the ones which aren't British or Dutch originals.
Yeah. The US just loves our game shows. But that's probably because we have such a wide range of them.
America's Got Talent is older than BGT.
@@danielgardecki1046 Easy there, Tiger, some of the best loved British game shows are in fact based on American shows. The Price is Right with Bruce Forsyth is actually based on one of America's oldest and most beloved game shows of the same name, Brucie started it here in the 80's but America already had it on TV in the 70's. Also Family Fortunes is based on the earlier (and still running) US game show called Family Feud.
I'm a Brit like you and I also like to point out to Americans how many of their shows are based on earlier British shows but don't go crazy, dude, we've copied as much from the US as they have copied from us. Brighton Bells was our remake of the Golden Girls, Coupling was the British remake of Friends, etc
@@ChrisBetton Your technically right I'll concede. 1 pilot episode of BGT was broadcast on ITV first though before AGT but was never picked up. Then NBC approached Simon Cowell & commissioned the show into a season in America before Britain's ITV approved the format from America & made BGT. There's footage of the pilot in this retrospective of AGT - czcams.com/video/KxlbcBZngLs/video.htmlsi=0fWDavcAu0lcmodq
Mitchell and Webb did a sketch called" the inebriati" which is how everybody performs better when they are ever so slightly drunk. You should react to it.
Stunningly accurate sketch since 1.75 drinks is peak confidence while 2 drinks or more starts you down the road towards Dipsy, then on to La-La, and the next thing you know you're having a Tinky-Winky in a policeman's helmet. That's why I never have more than almost two drinks. Promise. Just ask Po, she's here now.
I would love to see your reaction to Detectorists. It's a beautiful English comic drama. Totally unique and with so much heart. It has laugh out loud moments along with gentle comedy..It also can sometimes emotionally affect the viewer as you genuinely care about these wonderful misfits.
Matt Berry is a legend. You should start reacting to "What we do in the shadows" it is incredibly funny
I still have a whole season to watch woop woop!
Matt Berry is a absolute legend. I highly recommend Garth Merengues Dark Place and Toast of London if you haven't seen them. His music is also really good
You need to react to."Garth Merenghi's Darkplace" it has Richard Ayoade (Moss) & Matt Berry (Douglas) in it, it's crazy
Underrated to hell. Gets funnier every time you see it.
So basically the title IT crowd refers both to IT as in Information Technology (computer stuff) and the term "the it crowd" which means the popular people who get all the attention (which they are the opposite to)
Exactly. I tried to explain this to someone before (a fellow Brit) but they just kept repeating "but it's the I.T. crowd not "the it crowd'" despite the fact that I was telling them that it is indeed pronounced as "The I.T. Crowd" but that it's characters wish that they were part of "the it crowd". I also found out at some point that the term "the it crowd" is also very UK-centric and not well understood in the US or other places, I'm not sure what an American or Australian equivalent would be...
@@krashd Indeed. Just a complete guess, but the It Crowd phrase meaning In Crowd might be something to do with the drink Gin and It popular back in the day. It meaning Italian, meaning vermouth.
The news bit was even funnier for us Brits because the woman is one of our most serious and respected TV political journalists.
Life imitating art, this really happened in 2016. An unemployed computer technician (Guy Goma) had been at the BBC for a job interview but a mix-up saw him interviewed on air instead about the Apple Corps vs. Apple Computer legal dispute. His face when he realises what's happening is priceless.
2006
I believe it's art imitating life, I remember it really clearly Guy Goma's interview was just before the summer holidays, IT crowd was just after. I remember my form class discussing how quickly they got it into the show
you guys are so fun to watch xD queen boomer really adds something more to your reactions, dont get me wrong ur fun but with her its just so much more fun :) you play so well of each other better then 1 person ever could alone
The interviewer in the BBC studio discussing Iraq is Kirsty Wark, who was the main presenter on the 5 late night news programme, Newsnight.
Blinker fluid?! 😂😂. My Granny had her first job in a 1930’s Dairy. She was sent to the store room for a tin of “tartan paint”. The poor cow stood there for 35 minutes! 😂😉
Skirting board ladder, tartan paint, an inflatable dartboard, a colour radio, a long weight...classics :)
Pop Idol was the first show of it's ilk in 2000/01, and Simon Cowell took it to the US as American Idol. Pop Idol became the X Factor in the UK, and Britain's Got Talent was launched as a separate show on the same network (ITV), and Cowell similarly launched America's Got Talent
In regards to Iraq our own stupid lying politicians at that time were all too eager to get involved they could have easily said no. So no apology is necessary but thank you for the gesture.
Yeah the feeling here certainly isn't that we're dragged into it. It's that our politicians are just as responsible for these decisions.
Agree, our leaders didn't have a gun held to their heads. But we did have some politicians with the integrity to do the right thing. Key among them was Robin Cook who resigned as Leader of the House of Commons and made an amazing speech. Tony Ben as always was also quite vocal against attacking Iraq.
Kirsty wark did a good job interviewing Moss!!!
Internet Technician 😂 Mrs Boomer you are the real life Jen 😂😂 bloomin love you two ❤
they "never thought to ask"..!
Blinker fluid... reminds me of WiFi cables 😂
This is the perfect show mad and silly just what I need right now great to see you guys KB and QB ❤
I took four Speech classes to get over standing in front of groups, lecturing. Got thru it great!! Taught U. S. History at college level and loved it!!!
Kids today need to communicate and can't!!! Sad😪
"Internet Technician, right"
"Think so"
Wow, guys 😂
Graham Linehan is one Britain's best ever comedy writers. Black Books, Father Ted, The IT Crowd and host of other writing credits. The actors do a great job, but it's the writing that's the real star of the show.
He is Irish but I get your point. They were just British owned productions.
IT actually means "Information Technology" ;)
WHERE ARE YOU?? ARE YOU OK??
8 days with no word. Hope all is ok with them.
In the UK there was Pop Idol, then X-factor
I don't think he voices someome in total war, but he was the narrator in Worms Revolution
FUN FACT: The interviewer on the 'Iraq' section is a real BBC news presenter called Kirsty Wark, who presents the news show Newsnight.
I love how you guys always pause before saying... Denholm Reynholm. It makes me think you always have to take a quick second before remembering the name... Denholm Reynholm 😂
Can't wait for season 3, the Internet, it's my fav episode of the entire series
The fact the voice over for the Dragon's Den part is the actual person that does the voice over
I'm glad you recognised that 2 of your TV shows originated in Britain, well almost all do, here's 17 more...
1. Antiques Roadshow
2. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
3. Kitchen Nightmares
4. Undercover Boss
5. American Idol
6. Veep
7. Cash Cab
8. Three's Company
9. Shameless
10. Whose Line Is It Anyways?
11. Dancing with the Stars
12. Trading Spaces
13. Wife Swap
14. Sanford and Son
15. All in the Family
16. Who Do You Think You Are?
17. The office
I always thought wwtbam? was a Dutch IP
Jeremy Clarkson (top gear) is the present host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
The British show 'Banged up abroad'...American version 'Locked up abroad'.
There's a wiki page listing 167 others
As has been said , the news is based on an actual event and smoke & mirrors is a term for magic . The IT crowd just gets better each episode .
The opening scene with Roy walking down the street with the 60's style muzak playing, i just thought that was so hilarious, had to rewatch it a couple of times.
I guys have you reviewd The League of Gentleman late nineties british sitcom
Internet Technician?!?!?! Information Technology. I thought everyone knew that.
Great fantastic super-duper epic and hilarious stuff guys!
And this was before the IT Crowd ep even started! ;)
can't wait till you guys get to season 4, the entire run of IT Crowd is awesome
Glad you guys really liked this one. I think this might be my top episode, even over The Work Outing.
Keep doing what you do! Smoke and mirrors is a term for misdirection but yes, originally coined for magicians art of deception
I remember the incident so well when the wrong person was interviewed on a live national television broadcast by the BBC. It was absolutely hilarious and very cute 😂
The show in the UK was called Pop Idol
Re "one beer" you need to watch the Mitchell and Webb sketch "Sightly Less than Two Drinks".
22.41 happened in real life on the BBC, CZcams "Guy Goma: 'Greatest' case of mistaken identity on live TV ever? BBC News"
7:45 ,same as the inbetweeners work experience episode where the mechanic asks will to go buy some tartan paint and a long wait and spirit level bubbles
IT actually stands for Information Technology.
Great seeing the little one! ^.^
Its Okay Moss
doesn't ever get cancelled
Its against the law in the UK to cancel
Richard Ayoade in anything
'internet technician' 😆 close enough
I checked but Matt Berry(Douglas) wasn't in Rome 2. He did work with team 17 on Worms Revolution though.
8:27 Builders in the uk like to send the new kid out for a "long weight" All builder stores are in on the joke and will leave standing any guy coming in the store asking for one. They leave him waiting for hours 😂😂😂🇬🇧
MATT BERRY IS HILARIOUS IN "WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS" BEST❤ COMEDY ON TODAY!!👍🏼 and "THE TOAST OF LONDON"❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
16.56 they did focus on the background for computer people as mentioned on the documentary, they even had a Commodore Pet
I think you should watch green wing. It’s got the guy who plays Jim in Friday night supper in it.. have you seen that before. Every prayer and blessing for your intentions. God bless. Thanks for the videos
The guys the play Moss and Douglas are in the animation series Krapopolis. It is ok series, in its first season.
Yes i needed this right now.
Lovely to have baby boomer as guest presenter 😊, our lad is just turning 11 weeks and is now full of smiles, very into the clangers which bbc put out!!
Matt Berrys Toast on London is hilarious aswell guys.
IT = information technology :-) It is also a pun on "The 'it' crowd". People 'it' if they were cool jet setter types back in the day.
Shark Tank was based on Dragons Den, which was based on a Japanese show (slightly different format).
I can hear him saying "Its over April". XD
When you were highlighting objects in the background I remembered that fans of the show would send items such as electronic gadgets, signs etc and they were sometimes included in the show?
An American version of The IT Crowd was almost aired by NBC in 2007-08, starring Richard Ayoade reprising his role as Moss.
A German version of the programme was in production starting June 2007.
the US pilot was so bad... and I also had the misfortune to watch one of the german episodes before it was cancelled... damn that was horrendously bad.
The woman interviewing Moss on the news is Kirsty Young, who was a newsreader at the time.
35:10 the Irish way haha
It's a true statement of any show that it can make people laugh just at the word, 'Yes'
7:29
Get some tartan paint, as well. 😉
Yu can use a free online voice isolation to remove the copyright music but keep your commentary.
May have to crop the section, remove music with the voice isolation and paste it back ready for final video render.
If you like Matt Berry (Douglas), "Toast of London" is great and "Year of the Rabbit" is pretty good. His first "big" (cult) show was "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" which is a bit of an acquired taste.
Awwwwwww, that baby is so precious
Richard Ayoade is on Brit game show, movies "THE WATCH", and author!!❤❤❤❤❤
😂😂😂 watching you apologize for Tony Blair's decision is hilarious
Information Technology - you're welcome lol
Ha! "Internet Technician" Queen. Never change. Memory _is_ RAM!
Workplace initiations: Sent to the stores to get a "long stand", "long weight", "tartan paint", "left handed screwdriver"
About stage fright: here in the Netherlands we had back then a famous publisher who was important in the "Temperance movement". But after he died a vriend of him told he had stage fright and always had a stiff drink before speaking to the members of that anti alcohol club... My grandfather was often present at that meetings and was furious when he learned his role model was drinking...
Another series you need to watch is slow horses it's brilliant funny tense has action best series I've watched In years
Can you not see the lipstick? 😂
Is it time for Only Fools and Horses or is the lingo/slang too hard for them to get, its the funniest show ever made and timeless
he's dong all the only fools and horses on patreon :)
There is a wiki page that shows 156 TV shows Americans don't realise originated in Britain and aren't American originals
Internet technician?? It is like Jen is in the room.
Did you know that The IT Crowd and Plebs had the same producer? Caroline Leddy. The maestro of comedy...also known for The Inbetweeners, Friday Night Dinner and The Four Lions. Hooray! I understand she's involved in a new series and can't wait to see it.
power steering uses fluid as a hydrolic thing to make it easier to turn the wheel at slower speeds
Thanks for that technical clarification 😁
American idol is actually based on pop idol but American idol has gone on for 21 seasons and pop idol only lasted for 2 seasons haha
Love the mustard baby grow❤
Matt Berry - Douglas Reynholm is a voice over actor.
I love the fact you think I.T. stands for 'Internet Technician' 😂
No IT stands for Information Technology
7.50 The best one is asking someone in the office to get a 'long stand', I sent someone to the next office for that, he was left stood there a few minutes and then sent to the next office for one..............10 minutes later I heard him SHOUTING my name 😁😁
OMG 😆I.T means information technology.. Dah !
It was pop idol over here and we sold it to you as usual😂
internet technician haha, the new Jen. no it stands for information technology
Especially as Jen is pressed about what IT stands for in a later episode, and doesn't have a clue..
That actually did happen when some poor guy going to the bbc for a job interview was mistaken for an expert spokesman they were having on the news. Think the video is still floating about haha
