Looking good. Opal really is special with the water content. Saw it down before drying to the preform of what you are making so it does not pull itself apart needlessly. You want huge, its a spalling risk during curing. Everything has risks; AKA wet is not always how dry always looks as opal does have a tendency to change over time, every opal eventually.

That deep juicy fiery goodness! That was a killer piece you cleaned up bro. I like all those smaller pieces too. Tiny imperfections. Excellent advice for curing them. I never would of known. Excellent video 🤘😁

Beautiful work! Can you dissolve the host in muriatic acid instead of cutting it off? It seems like, since it dissolves calcite, it might handle a clay-based host.

I don't know if muriatic acid works. If it did that would be cool. I would love to see the natural shape with all the host material perfectly removed.

I'm wondering if a drill with a carbide drill bit might be helpful, it's a masonry bit, maybe even use a impact drill?????
