The Fight Nerd heads to Queens, NY to talk with Nick Sacoulas of Progressive Martial Arts. We also talk with some of the teachers and students to learn more about this state of the art facility.
Its a great school. Its a huge new clean place. Have all kinds of innovative equipment for dynamic strength training and weight loss. The Muay Thai and Bjj classes are tout by very skillful instructors. I have seen people start with zero skill, and 3 to 6 months later they were ready to fight. Its a top school in NYC.
i take bjj and muay thai, great trainers, awsome friends, great facility, and most of all great training. you can learn a lot and you can go to the highest extent of your abilities if you train hard here. =] props on the video sifu.
no they don't charge extra for testing or for new belts when you get promoted.I don't know about brown or black belts. But everyone else gets their rank based on attendance and performance. We don't do kata's either so that's another thing I like about this school.
excellent vidio-what is interesting is I own a small martial arts school -and- I am going to be 72 in sep of this year-i wish the old guy- like me- good luck in both our futures. oldsgtmajusmc
Tillie Thompson actually, he's not. They have actual professional fighters teaching you ACTUAL usable and effective techniques. I personally know because I trained there for a year some time ago and everything they taught was effective and no B.S. plus they also have their official ties with the Reno Gracie academy of ny and other legit martial arts associations
@thyrlara247 Yes there is a discount if you pay up front.I forget the amount because its been almost a year since I joined. But when I joined I paid a few months up front so my monthly cost was fairly low.
Yes its a 6 month contract. But as far as I know they don't let you do everything when you first join. You have to wait for the instructor to say your ready.Although that part can be frustrating because I seen a couple guys start doing the Kali and Muay Thai classes who started the same time as me and a few other guys. And there really not that great. And as far as the BJJ,I have no clue. The only thing I know about BJJ is that you have to take some of those classes in order to gain higher rank.
Actually the core/mma program is $179 a month,I pay $110 a month because I put down a larger deposit.I couldn't remember when I first responded thats why I said about, sorry. The cost for all three programs is $229.Considering a lot of people pay that much to buy Starbucks coffee everyday,i'd say it was worth it.
I took my free trial lesson the other day. (FYI I am DEFINITELY joining next week, no matter what, price wise). From what Sifu told me, I recognize the $179 a month number, as well as the $229 number. But where did you get the $110 a month from? I was told 6 months would cost ~$967 (roughly $161 a month). How did you get it down to $110 a month?
Yeah well I know other schools that use mixed forms of martial arts. And you have to do kata's. You could probably just do the core classes but you probably wouldn't get promoted past orange belt if you didn't do the other classes. But it's still a business so maybe you could negotiate something.
They call it Core/MMA.But basically you do a lot of punching ,kicking, knee and elbow strikes.Working on the pads.Sometimes they'll throw in some ground work.Working on power and speed. Its really not that much different then the Muay Thai class except you don't do any sparring. You should stop by and watch some classes. The free class they give to people intersted.Doesn't really give a good enough taste of what they do.
LOL dude its MMA,katas you kidding? haha,no charges for testing...wow...im getting screwed then haha, looks great tho....cant i just do 1 program and get charged for that program at a cheaper membership?
