Absolutely hilarious! I remember when I was in The Mikado, every time KoKo (or any character really) mentioned 'The Mikado' the chorus, other characters, etc... would suddenly bow and say "Mikado!" So this reminded me of that. :) I love how Jon English hams this up.
If people think that this and other G&S operas were racist do not know what they are talking about in point of fact nearly all the operettas were a poke at the English society.
Gilbert and Sullivan would appreciate the updated contemporary references, I'm sure. They were all about poking fun at the Poo-Bahs of their era, after all ,and we've more than enough Poo Bahs right now.
Not being a fan of the updated G&S I do have to say this one is better than most---the only updates should be in the patter songs which are topical. When and where was this done? Surely better than most.
@BullseyeHun One could also argue that Pish-Tush isn't much of a 'character' - his main roles are to be the representative for the gentry, deliver information and serve as a third for Koko & Poobah in their trio. He doesn't really have a personality (unlike Poobah) and even seems to abandon his comrades when he's with the Mikado in the final scene. I do miss him a bit, though.
It’s hard to explain. So Pish-Tush is out! Like they cut him out of the show, but I think he might be the person holding Poo Ba’s medals, so during I am so proud they had the 3 little maids from school. Let me explain, instead of having yum Yum be apart of the 3 little maids she is just one of them. There are sisters! The 3 sing Tush’s part in I am so proud
Yeah. I could easily imagine it. Not like Pish-Tush is that much of a character. If it weren't for the thing in 'I Am So Proud,' it wouldn't surprise me if productions cut the part entirely.
Funny scetch but the meaning of the song gets lost among the jokes, still an interesting take on a well known song. A ,Mikado virgin should not be watching this performance.
I WAS KO KO IN THIS SHOW!!!!!!
Ahhso

RIP you absolute legend, I loved The Mikado.

I only get half of the Aussie jokes but the ones I do get are brilliant.
My god I can't believe I fond this on youtube!
I used to be able to recite the whole thing practically.
Me too. And now I recite it to my 2 year old son to go to sleep, and he sings it too
lol warriors playing against Neil Diamond... Prime Minister...Ahhsoo!! lol GReattt R I P Jon xoxo
My fiance and I know this by heart, but OMG we love it so much, especially the Rolf Harris stuff. Yaay
SINGING POSITIONS! *all assume a weird pose* lol love it XD
I got my dvd of this finally from australia. Took a month to get here, but worth the money and the time if anyone wants to know. Loved it!

Jon English just cannot catch a break with that conductor. :D
Or with swords for that matter *ouch*
He merged to Pooh-Bah to give John English more "screentime". And in some dialogues that would require both of them was outsorced to the 3 maid...

I wish this was for sale..
Only in recent months have I finally clicked with the joke at 0:45.

Funny and unique. So.... how do they do the trio "I Am So Proud" without a Pish-Tush?

what order do the clips go in?
Wheres my pish tush :(
if you don't like it keep to the original
I thought Pish-Tush was supposed to sing it...
Jon English is not Rolf Harris!
They all look the same to me
Yeah. I could easily imagine it. Not like Pish-Tush is that much of a character. If it weren't for the thing in 'I Am So Proud,' it wouldn't surprise me if productions cut the part entirely.
Nintendo???? 5555 I don't get this joke but I just laugh a lot.
where is Pish Tush? WTF?

This is a bit too... overdone. The Stratford Festival version is better.
Horrible
12 people dislike racist dated operas.
He's a terrible singer.
Saw this live. Absolute rubbish.
