Truly Masterpiece. Who is at 2024.❤
Me!
Well isn't it 2024. Aren't we all here. I mean don't tell me now it's 2026 and I missed another couple of years. Fook it, rehab is costly man, stay conscious and stop feckin' round with the years, for all the adams atoms that flick in and out, knowing beyond dream it's never over.
With ya!
I'm with you 💯
So very beautiful.....In working through enormous grief over the tragic loss of my youngest son, I listened to "Don't Dream It's Over" thousands of times...Sad, pensive, comforting, torturous, memorial...every emotion hits hard yet beckons and softly tugs at the heartstrings to listen just one more time...the endless looping of grief.
I'm so sorry for your loss. ⚘️
Ar deis de go raibh a ainm dilis!
Sorry for your loss
So sorry for your loss, can’t even imagine it. But a wonderful song and special but look after yourself 🙏 Love from Scotland.
Thank you for sharing your misery
Wish Neil could sing this to the whole of America!
I wish they would listen
Mr Finn is So under rated ... One of the best Singer Song Writers of our Generation .. I Miss Crowded House So much
If I had a voice like that, I'd yell out, 'Hey now, Hey now', all the time
..or Hell no !..Hell no !
Best post here.
Hey, you can say that again, now.
Lawrence Atkinson
Yes! Me too. All day long....
HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Not many songs that can stop me in my tracks but this one certainly can. Perfect.
Are we really that lucky? We had the privilege of being on this planet at the same time as Neil Finn.
The 80s man was like music from another planet ..i miss those days .
I had the very same thought just before reading your comment. He's still creating magic 45 years later. It's healing to see that some distinct happinesses from my youth are still here & in Mr Finn's case, flourishing. His genius is humbling and.I'm very, very grateful to him.
Dear Neil We played this beautiful version of your masterpiece at my late mother's funeral this week. She used to sing it and the words really did resonate with her journey. Thanks for sharing your musical gifts with us. I will always remember her fondly when I hear this song. Thankyou.
❤
RIP to Your Mom God Bless .. She had wonderful Taste
God bless u and thank for that gift
A lovely way to send her off. ☮️
"Don't dream it's over"...gets me every time. Memories of going through my divorce in 1987.
Neil Finn is among the greatest singer/songwriters of his era. He belongs with McCartney/ Lennon, Paul Simon and the other greats of rock/pop. He is profoundly underrated and has written some of the most beautiful contemporary music of the last 30 years. Thank you Neil. Thank you.
Never a truer word spoken
Absolutely Agree Mate!
"He belongs with McCartney/ Lennon,".. LOL...just LOL.
JS MD...100% Correct. Brilliant Composition. And For All Of Us......
."Don't Dream It's Over."
No, he is not underrated but to put him in the same league of Macca is a big stretch.
When the time comes this will be my funeral song. Don't dream it's over, when the world comes in to build a wall between us, we know they won't win!
Such a sad/sweet song. Certain pieces of music create a 'lump in your throat' nostalgia that inexplicable - kind of a longing for something you've had and lost, or something you've never had at all. Does anyone else identify with what I'm saying?
Jay Corby 100%
Jay Corby Totally!!!!!
Sometimes 'WORDS' can not describe it or do justice. This is one of those times....I think when a nerve has been touched and your emotions 'light up' and you can just 'feel it' ( like I do) whenever I hear this specific song. It IS Definitely a classic for me !
me too... I got ur whole point my dear.hhuhuh
A sort of collective, loving memory ~ shared into hours ahead, though gently glancing back with longing, tearful grace. With high notes reaching for something hopeful, yet lost..
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve replayed this
This accoustic version is so beautiful. I never get tired of listening to this song.
Neil's voice has aged like fine wine. Such an underrated song.
Simply one of the most beautiful songs ever. A true masterpiece.
Agree one of my favorites
Concordo
Agree !!
And so true for today. Do not let the communist Democrats build a wall between Americans. Divide and conquer then impose a communist government.
this arrangement is so killer. the sound is perfect. only version I listen to now
Has to be one of the best live performances on CZcams. Love the arrangement and he sounds great after all these years!
To those giving this a thumbs down, give your heads a wobble.
I remember being Young with this guy.
Thank Goodness for the Music. 🙋
His voice is crystal clear. Can understand every word conveyed and the tone is right on. Rare with most vocalists today. This is unique-with strings
No autotune no backup singer...
So true, every word.
yes, this is my favorite video of the song on youtube. It is beautiful 09-NOV-2019
not whispering into the mic
That’s what you get growing up with choir singing. What you’re hearing is many years of good old-fashioned practice.
Neil Finn is one of my favorite artist and this song tells you why.
Mr. Finn, the only words I just want to say are "THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE AND FOR ALL THESE YEARS" excellent version.
My god that ravels right to my heart.
This song has improved with Neil's age. Just wow. I could listen to this all day long.
I think his singing has actually improved over the years!
I never ever tire of this song and that beautiful voice
i agree
So could I!
I completely agree
Can you even Comprehend the magnificence of this copulation of strings, unbelievable!
A masterpiece from one the world's best artists. A gem of a special song.....❤
The violin arrangement is beautiful & soft, such a great accompaniment to Neil’s ‘song to remember forever’ ❤
A song that will live on forever. Thank you, Neil.
The perfect message for 2020 comes straight out of 1989. “Don’t ever let them win!”
Listening to this too in 2020. Sitting in my home during covid 19 , hearing Neil's words, this song takes on a whole new meaning for me.
Amen!
1984 was 36 years ago. i got rid of my televison altogether a while ago.
Even years later, he's still got that beautiful voice🤘
This one still breaks my heart open all these years later~ Gorgeous arrangement and Neil never sounded better 💞
Never let them win.
Stay pureblood.
I played a different live version of this song for my graduating class when I was a teacher many years ago. I could see tears in the eyes of a number of students, I needed to leave the room before they saw the tears in my eyes.
I have been crying to this forever it seems Jenny 😞😎
Your students would understand a few tears in your eyes. Precious memories.❤
Why not cry? let it out.
Respect!🥲👍🙏🕊❤️
Some songs have that purity of message
This is for my bestfriend who died 2 years ago I love you Mervin. No one can replace you in my heart.
I feel your pain. RIP JH!
Sorry for your loss, l tragically lost my beautiful daughter on 12th June 2021 in a car accident. This song was played at her funeral. Bless you Mathew Murdock. I am heart broken
Hugs.
I’m counting the steps to the door of your heart....I mean, is that beautiful or what?
It is very beautiful....
Neil Finn is a phenomenal wordsmith. And that brilliance in both his voice and arranging leaves me breathless.
March 2021, and just simply needed to hear this, possibly going into 3rd Lockdown ...
You would be right to state that this is one of the best pop songs ever written. To me it’s right there with classics by The Beatles. Thanks Neil
I saw Crowded House in 1987 in Massachusetts, at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. A Great venue for concerts. A friend invited me. I'd never even heard of them. But I've been listening to them ever since. All there music was good but this song stood out. Neil Finn hasn't lost a thing. He still sound's fantastic.
Wonderful version of one of the best songs written.
What a grand song.
A good song can be arranged in so many different ways and never lose its brilliance. Case in point.
During COVID LOCKDOWN A PERFECT MASTERPIECE. BEST EXPORT OUT OF NEW ZEALAND.
Stephanie Lisa Franklin couldn’t agree more so nice to take time and just sit back and reflect 👍😷👍
50 years from Split Enz Finn Brothers to Crowded House solo to Fleetwood Mac both him & Tim passion is music thank you for all there writings of great songs still popular today with a lot of people in Aoetearoa & Ozzie and around the world.
.........and Anchor butter...
I always thought he was British... oh hang on that's basically the same thing tho right :-p ( for a white guy)
@@steviedean6597 Its very different. Like Australians to New Zealanders. Americans to Canadians etc.
N.Z people are very nice. Dare i say nicer than Oz generally.
Decades after I first heard this, I still admire the sheer poetry of the lyrics like it's really a poem in its first incarnation before meeting the notes to set it into a song. The mood is also a blend of melancholy and catharsis. It's a poem, not a pop song. That it hit as high as it did in the charts is a testament to the fact that there is still room for songs that do not have to be boxed in into the usual pop mold. This song lives on in my iPod and iPhone playlists. Hats off to Neil for this pure poetry of a song
I love playing Neil's song's on my guitar, a poet's music. Thank you.
That may be more beautiful than the original.
Man, my goosebumps had goosebumps when the strings came in. Sheesh - how freakin beautiful is THAT?? Cheers to all involved!!
Neil Finn has one of the greatest pure singing voices. I love this.
Yeah, and also Nick van Eede in Cutting Crew ❤👍
Ho my... Such a beautiful song. Why there's no more songs like this nowdays
When those strings slide in.... right into the tear ducts . Overwhelming.
Stay strong everyone during these troubling times (April 2020) ❤️
Dec 2020 and it keeps getting sadder. Almost Christmas.
April 30, 2021..Hopefully things are getting better...
@@virginiaknighten4687 amen to that
That was so beautiful I almost cried and I'm a grown man
sure you are
Yeap older than you
foomhawj07 every time I hear this song....
I am a grown man, and I did cry. So many memories.
The best songs are always "Bitter-sweet" "Happy-sad"..a reflection of us but leaning towards a happy ending.
I don't know what it is about this graceful, beautiful song but if I listen to it late at night, all alone, my tears do suicide jumps from my eyes.
Oh my gosh!! I just fell in love with this song all over again! The strings sound amazing and Neil's voice is so hauntingly beautiful!
There is no song that doesn't sound 1000% better with an orchestra of violins; fantastic.
It's 💯
Ace of Spades
What a fantastic version. Loved it.
you've put this seed into the soil and now look at how many generations and of peoples have grown with this...and every version is a rendition of what more it could be, I love everyone of them. they brought me away to a safe place when I was younger and they still do when I am older...love your lyrics and your soul...thank you!!!
How can 276 (and counting, probably) sad people not even 'like' this song and performance? Thanks for all the great music down the years, Neil & Co
Those are the Cardi B WAP fans
almost 63 years old and I have always liked this song ( a lot ) since the eighties. But I have to say that I was literally 'stunned' by the beauty of this version of this song by Neil Finn , ' Don't Dream It's Over Now' . His voice and performance is angelic if there ever was such a thing. Neil Finn is an amazing talent that; hopefully, we can hold on to. So many great artists are leaving us way too soon (recently). Thank you Neil Finn for my favorite song; maybe of my lifetime. Thanks !
So dream on... his gift as a musician..for us all to love
Nooooo! Not 60 until May 27 2018!!
@@Hrr7676 dale was saying he was nearly 63, not Neil
63 also and never realized how amazingly beautiful this song was until now.
@Chlarie Peace OMG read it properly...Dale said he (DALE) was nearly 63.. and that was what I wrote...
Neil's voice only gets better w age.
Just ran across this and wow does this song bring back memories! The vocal and the strings sound better than when it first hit the airwaves in the U.S.
Go Neil, one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Thank you Sir.
Thank you as it always helps my battles Mr. Finn who we meet in Stephens Green when a gardener there was being a bollix about you playing football with your son. What a nice man you are too. Love all your output. Really helps me.
Best version of his own song I've ever heard... Absolutely stunning...will done Sir..
This man looks like an angel with such voice, lyrics and presence.🥰
I just had a *CROWDED HOUSE* moment...
*_SHUDDERS_*
Somewhere in Neil's attic is a portrait of his vocal cords. Damn that was beautiful.
imusbcraz Sick reference bro!
Do you hear the way Neil sings this? It’s a complete different level. It’s divine with those strings 🙏🏻
This is one of the reason why we still returns to the 80's
I’m counting the steps to the door of your heart....I mean, is that beautiful or what?
This song has improved with Neil's age. Just wow. I could listen to this all day long.
My favorite line! Just beautiful ❤️
I just listened to it 6 times. I think this is the most beautiful rendition Neil has done of this song. And he's done a lot of them.
It's breathtaking...Much more poignant than the studio version. I agree- I think age has brought more depth to it, with some sorrow and melancholy mixed in.
Me too 🙂
This is one of my favorite pop songs from decades ago, and to realize it is actually a beautiful piece of music.
As our world changes this song takes a deeper meaning to my life and my conscious.
Thank you guys Love toy and your music ❤
Lovely !
In the UK 🇬🇧, the greatest hits album was marketed with the tag line, you probably know more Crowded House songs than you realise.
The first time I put it on in the car, my wife sang the first three songs , almost word perfectly, without knowing the bands name!
i dont know a single musician who has written more hauntingly beautiful songs than NF.
Sublime with the orchestra ❤️
Damn, tears streaming down my face right now.
What a beautiful song that's lasted for decades! Thanks Neil!
This is one of those special songs that always hits you right in the heart, it's a beautiful song.
His voice only gets better with age, definitely my favourite song by him! Had the privilege of doing this gig with him last year in Christchurch :)
you are lucky
Day 9 Kiwi Music Month so different this year with no live performances happening this song by Neil Finn defines the Kiwi spirit
A sweet yet sad song sang on crowded Houses last performance
I love the smiles on the faces of the string section when this beautiful song ends.
@Klemheist - They were proud to be playing that arrangement with him ... I doubt any of them thought it wouldn’t go well!😽
Holy shit this man can sing. Simply beautiful.
For real. Some singers lose their voice, while Neil's voice has only gotten better with age.
Natural talent at it's best
Just came across this, best rendition of that song ever. The violins and cellos are wonderful. Feels like music is the one sane thing we as humans do so well.
Absolutely agree.
Oh...TOTALLY
Sing unto the Lord.
Such a beautiful song with those strings tugging at your heart.
YOU KNOW IT!!! HERE WE ARE IN 2021, LOVE THIS FOREVER!!!
So many levels of this song. Vast emotions over the years come to mind listening to this. Always brings a tear to my eye. Neil, you are incredible.
so relaxing just sitting at the computer having this on, first class,
WOW, this literally took my breath away!!!!!! Love from USA!
Love back to you from UK !
Hey now hey now dont dream its over dont ever let them win so wonderful
This man is in another world, and we in Canada thank him for sharing his brilliance with all of us. Maintiens le Droit
Song seems so much more meaningful today, so many suicides and painful deaths. To Paul Hester, RIP.
"Don't let them win"
Goosebumps. The pain is great and real. Thank you for helping me.
Good grief, this is spine tingling. I wonder what goes through the heads of the people playing the strings. When Neil's singing verse one they have the look on their face that says they are immersed in it every bit as every audience member and they know they're in the presence of greatness.
I was just thinking the same thing! Exactly... what a moment!! I love this song SOOOO much. :-)
As if it was just yesterday, his voice still sounds so good! And the orchestra is just beautiful!
Wow! This is beautiful. He sounds exactly the same. :)
Yes he does:)
I love this one
He sounds BETTER.. strong voice and long note hold at end indicates he is a 58 year old who is getting better and better like a fine wine . Proof that you don't have to be ultra young to be a great performer. Great performance
Smiles....WOW is all I could muster up ....sometimes words are just not enough for such beauty! Cheers Everyone
really like this and the femsle vocalist wow. Beautiful and haunting ❤
What a beautiful version of an already beautiful song. I teared up. Just gorgeous.
There are only a few songs that can instantly move me to tears in this world. This is one of them, and this arrangement makes it that more powerful. Absolutely beautiful, and heart-wrenching. Awesome job Neil! Must have been a real thrill to perform it in this setting. 💖🤘😭 Looking forward to seeing you here at ABC tomorrow.
Neil is. He IS. He just keeps evolving and it has and continues to be the music that defies time and defines it in equal measure. This song puts me in 1987 driving my red truck over Laurel Canyon with that Boy I loved that lives in heaven now following me home on his Harley. If I could write with ANYONE it would be Neil Finn.
Awww.... beautiful and timeless memory, Amye
Thanks so much for posting. I've included this in my appreciation of the song. Enjoy stevepafford.com/crowdedhouse/
Beautiful❤️
He's a really lovely guy too. He makes me very proud to be a Kiwi.
You should turn this memory into a song, short story or novel...
I really loved this greatest song and this iconic performance makes me so proud to being a kiwi.
Thank you ❤
The Stand. This was the most perfect song.
I’m 50 now… and I still love this song. The 80s where the best.
Neil still has the.range to sing the song in the original key. Sounds awesome
Yeah. Most artists start to decline in range when they're middle aged, sometimes even as early as their late thirties
@@mrsandman3027 Range isnt important, its the delivery and emotion behind it
So you wouldn't mind if someone sang this song in bass
I get your statement, just having a laugh
@@mrsandman3027 not at all....I love good bass voices
