  • Should you use Prime, Playback, or Ableton Live for tracks?
    As a Worship Leader in 2022, you have access to incredible resources like Prime, Playback, and Ableton Live. Apps like Prime and Playback, have come a long way since they were first released. The defining lines between all three apps, are much smaller, and with multiple subscriptions available for Prime and Playback, it's difficult to know what choice is the right choice.
    In this video, I break down EVERY feature of Prime and Playback and compare that to Ableton Live, and provide some tips to help you decide which app is right for you.
    UPDATE: After a week and a half of preparing for this video, it looks like I still missed a detail of Playback subscription pricing. When you subscribe to Cloud Pro standard you get a seat (license) to Playback Pro. When you subscribe to Cloud Plus you get a seat (license) to Playback Premium. I'll be posting a future update walking through this and updating pricing.

    Thanks Will for this video, we appreciate the review. It might be helpful for you and your viewers to see that Cloud Pro includes a Playback seat! Cloud Pro Plus includes Playback Premium. Therefore some of your calculations are a little out by about $99 a year

      Hey Thanks! After a week and half of studying I still missed this haha. I'll do a quick little update at a point in the future to mention this.

    You got a new subscriber. Great content. I’ve been using Prime for 4 years and they’re improving the app significantly.

    Wow, this must have taken a lot of work, let alone editing the video. Thank you for doing this service to the world! That's quite a world of information (I'm new to all of this)

    Prime now has a pad app in the bottom corner and you can trigger a Pad on top of any song in any key!

    Great content here! I appreciate the deep dive into these apps. Do you foresee Playback or Prime adding a feature at that could clip or edit individual song sections in the future? That's been my biggest hang up with those programs.

      I think it’s possible they might. That’s a big reason to still use Ableton at the moment. I’m afraid of scope and feature creep with Prime and Playback. In my opinion Playback has gone a few features too far already and Prime best represents the original goal of these apps. At some point the devs will have to draw a hard line at what they don’t do to keep the simplicity there. But that would be a huge feature!

    Offline Key/Tempo surely Ableton can do that. But it’s called Transpose. Terms used for DAW / Recording software. Of course for any playback software it will called Pitch/Key (like in Karaoke or DJ software too).
    As long as you set warp on a track and sync with your project BPM (Tempo) you can transpose it in Semitones -12 to 12.
    So there’s a big difference.
    Ableton is a Digital Audio Workstation or a Music Production Software, while Prime and Playback are simply a Playback software. So workflow and terms used are totally different.

    My main thing with preferring Ableton is that say for instance our worship leader gets off by a beat now the whole band is off of the tracks, is there a way in either playback or prime to punch in the tracks, so we're not having to fight to get back on the click, or even worse have to kill the tracks all together? Anyone know if its possible?

    is it possible to upload the songs we purchase on loop community to multitracks playback?

    I use Ableton Live as my keys rig & Prime for loops/Backing Tracks....works like a breeze for all my live gigs wether at church or any other gigs.

    Our band just started using Prime. My problem is that some members don’t have IOS. Any recommendations on how to get the tracks for them to practice at home without having to purchase IOS devices for them?

  • @Gx5379

    To me it seems like Ableton is complicated. Prime and Playback are nice for ease of use and convenience. Like I could see myself spending hours and hours a week putting things together in Ableton each week. As opposed to just doing the work once and just adding my song simply each week in prime and playback.

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  Před rokem +1

      Imagine how amazing it would be to build your set in less than 5-minutes every week, and have the ability to repeat any song section, change key/tempo, edit your arrangements, and NOT have to re-do your work every time.
      ALL of that is possible in Ableton Live if you follow a proven process... You can watch me build my live set in less than 5-minutes: czcams.com/video/K23852UdL54/video.html
      The mistake a lot of Worship Leaders make is they spend WAY too much time uploading content to a cloud to get it into Prime or Playback. If you're going to use those apps, buy content only from the source (Playback-MultiTracks) (Prime-Loop Community) otherwise, you'll spend hours trying to get your songs formatted and ready.

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  Před rokem +1

      And the beauty of the 3-Part Framework for using tracks is you do your work once and build your set each week in less than 5-minutes. :)

    One of the biggest problems with the playback app is even if you own all of the tracks, you are stuck paying 25-45$ per month for a cloud subscription to use them.

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  Před rokem

      You need a cloud subscription to access custom content you’ve uploaded, but you can access content you’ve purchased for free in Playback without a Cloud Subscription.
      It’s difficult to understand what subscriptions you need when, but you don’t need cloud to access purchased content in Playback.

    • @justinwilkie3091
      @justinwilkie3091 Před rokem

      Sure, but if you want to save your arrangements and send midi 12$/month. Send bus outs via audio interface another 10$. Play your purchased pads with purchased songs, another 10$. Just saying you need to look closely at what functionality you want/need.

    • @fromstudiotostage
      @fromstudiotostage  Před rokem +1

      @@justinwilkie3091 oh… trust me…you don’t have to try to convince me of the mess of subscriptions they offer, I try to make that clear in the video and that was a point of frustration for me when I was there, but just want to clarify for people to use your own content in Playback you don’t need cloud.

      So I went for the multitracks app, the rental tracks and other related subscriptions. Total bill just over €100 a month. I am thinking I should just buy ableton maybe it is cheaper.

    Thanks for the great content! Quick question - is there any way to run Ableton live on an iPad? Or is the only way to do it on a Mac or PC? We currently run loop community prime on an iPad and for a long time I’ve wanted more creativity and flexibility with transitions and such. wondering if we can stick with using an iPad and move to Ableton. Also, we buy tracks from Loop community as well as multitracks.com, and many times they have more tracks than the intro version allows (16 I think). If we want to use all the available tracks, would we need to get Standard instead of intro?
