One really good tip I can add to this: Using the Mixing Station app, if you come across a disorganized board like in the beginning, you can actually MOVE channels with that app which you cannot do on the board. It basically runs a macro command to save presets using the last snippet slots and it does a bunch of copy pasting to just move all the channels around to accomodate.

I have an x32 Rack manufactured in late 2021, and when you plug in a 1/4" TR or TRS on AUX 5 and / or 6, it absolutely & definitively shuts off the RCA input(s)... just FYI... Drew's AUX 5/6 sharing trick trick might NOT work on your specific x32 mixer, depending on when it was made. Also, if you are working with a DJ (as opposed to your personal iPod/laptop/playback device), I STRONGLY recommend putting the DJ console on 2 linked channels with FULL PROCESSING... you will almost certainly want to roll off the bass, and hit him/her with some (maybe a lot of) compression. Otherwise, expect your subs to be clipping all night long. I do a lot of mixed events with a live band + DJ coverage before & after the show... I've yet to work with a DJ I don't have to reign in with some EQ & compression.

Thank you very much. I've gone to many clubs and churches to clean stuff up and have noticed bad organization that lead to wasted channels. Sometimes we need to move stuff around a bit to get those linked channel back. Also, thank you for choosing to move the channel and XLR, even though the X32 can do the patching. Keeping things 1:1 makes things a lot easier and that tiny extra effort is worth the time. Odds are, if the house engineers and/or techs are available, they get a fantastic learning opportunity regarding good console management.

Dude, loved the cheat of sending just the iPod to USB for recording. I was going to rip the music to wav on my PC but this hack is so much easier. Duh, can’t believe i missed this simple solve. Thanks!!!

I'm delighted to see the new shots, which reassures me that the videos are not old (because the background is the same as it was several years ago).

Thank you for this video, Drew! It was posted just when I needed it most!! The Christmas program director asked for about 20 wireless mics this year, so I bought a 16-pack. We have a 16-channel analog snake going from the stage to inputs 17-32, but we're only using about 7 of them right now. I was hesitant at first, but this video is what I needed as the shove to physically move the cables on the mixer instead of just remapping on board. Now I'll have channels 17-32 for the new mics.
The tip about moving PC to Aux was brilliant too! I'm using the USB card for audio to/from the PC, so took a bit to figure out how to do that, but it paid off. Allowed me to move the other 4 mics to 13-16.
Now.... To tune 20 mics so they don't squeel as kids walk around the auditorium 😒

Adding to the the stereo-to-mono discussion, I have made me 1/4inch (6.3mm) “TRS/TS” patch cables where one side is a normal unsymmetrical TS connector, and the other one has the tip and the ring both connected to the signal wire via a small resistor (I typically use 200 ohms, but it’s not critical).
I sometimes have people on stage using a stage piano/keyboard that only has stereo headphones as output, and using this cable I’m summing them on stage, before going into the di box and the (then certainly necessary, because you’re essentially plugging in “the headphones” turning off the speakers) possibly a separate monitor. The summing resistor is in to avoid shorting the individual channels. I found having this in my gig bag quite useful.
Also, you can use the same cable to get a direct feed from an insert jack, when a device doesn’t have a spare socket.
    {edit: typo}

I run sound for a live bands and have the X32 Compact... I use 1-8 for vocals, 9-16 for guitars, basses, sax, etc.. 17-24 for keys and finally 25-32 for drums... This gives me plenty of room to keep like things together and add as needed.

You can also assign all your vocals (i split between primary & backup) & similar instruments to different DCA's. Then when you want just one type, select the DCA and it will get rid of the rest of the channels.

    Good ideas for AUX!
HOWEVER, I have found that the sound quality on my Aux inputs is not quite as good as using a full channel with the Mic pre. Oh, how I wish it was.
With my MediaShout playback of our field-produced Weekly Update video, I also may need some compression, which a normal Aux does not give me.
I have been known to route an Aux TRS back into a Mic channel when I don't have the correct cable or adapter. This gives me full channel processing, although 'waisting' a Mic channel.
Another trick: if you have a Beheringer digital snake, you will end up with unused local XLR inputs on the board - since they are overridden by the XLRs from the snake. They are ripe for re-routing to the Aux channels for local XLR inputs.

Even easier is to use the Behringer X32edit program to copy move and shift things around.

Drew, the 5/6 aux-trs inputs disconnects the rca inputs so it is not possible to get audio from both sources simultaneously.

There is a much easier method to rearrange channel strips. Export the scene to a file and import it into X32 Scene Parser and use the Channel Arranger tool. When finished rearranging, click on the Transfer button, which will make a snippet that can be imported back into the X32.

There’s also Patrick-Gilles Maillot's windows utility “x32customlayer” which can swap channels on a x32 connected to over the network, might be quicker in case you have a windows laptop nearby.

Or, use a custom layer in Mixing Station to reorder any and all channels to something more convenient without actually repatching anything.

I use a laptop for people who are speaking over Zoom. Having the compressor helps with Zoom's automatic volume adjustments.
Also how do you gate, compress and EQ instruments such as Bass guitar, drums, keyboard, saxophone?

We use Waves Superrack for effects. It would sure be handy to have the Waves effects returns routed into the stereo effects returns on the x32 rather than have them tied up by the internal effects which we do not use. Is there a way to do this? We are currently used four normal input channels (2 for reverb and 2 for delay). It would be VERY helpful to get these normal input channels back.

Use aux inputs as return channels for Waves Superrack might be a good idea.

Is it also possible to copy WAV files onto the the USB stick instead of record it? So i can quickly merge some tracks into my audio editor and export it. Much faster than recording an hour long track from a playlist.

Hi Drew! I have an interesting one for ya. I want the full potential from the AES50, so I decided to chain the S32 AES50 B to the S16 AES50 A (as said by the manual) to get 48 channels and get my auxes over the AES50. But, here is the question: I don't want the monitor console to be the master, but the FOH console. Can I connect the MON to the AES50 B from the S16 and the FOH to the S32 AES50 A? (And will it than be the desired input split?)
Another question: Can I have a S32 on stage left and stage right and work as a parallel input? (As I don't know in front where I need to patch a mic)
Last question: If I connect my macbook ethernet port to the AES50 on a S32, will it work like an X Air setup? And can I connect my macbook to a router to also control via smartphone/tablet?
