I played for 3 hours last night and Willow Wood was just how I remembered it. I will be sticking to Origins! Live lost me years ago.

I really enjoyed this starting island especially when encountering npcs that spoke a different language that you could learn and finally find out what they were saying

The nostalgia from playing last night was insane. I'm so ready for EQ3 here's hoping they can actually make it happen.

What makes this different from other TLE's that they've done 100 times already, is that they are going to stop at the earlier expansions for a true locked in experience. It's also not in the TLE category, it's is its own server type, just like beta has its own server.

@@jjstevenz I have never played a TLE on EQ2. I think there are a lot of others like me who are coming back for the first time since somewhere between launch and around velious times. I think I quit during AoD.
I'd imagine a larger population of players haven't played EQ2 compared to EQ1 since it never reached the heights of EQ2. So at least there's new discoveries for people to find!

Yes please! I remember the Skaven were a very popular choice for a new faction to be added to Warhammer Online for a while.
EQ was my "good god, can a gaming experience really be this addicting" game. I used to play so many hours at a time I didn't eat or drink and didn't notice. It was also the game that made me understand addiction.. in a 5 year period I had almost 3 years of game time. I figured out I needed to play a little less. EQ2 was never as good, but that this not saying its not a better game, it's just like music, that song you loved as a youth will always be your favorite even if other songs might be better. EQ was just my first HOLY HECK IS THIS COOL moment, better stuff has happened, but that moment will never be recreated. I have played both EQ and EQ2 in the last 5 years and I can't get into them again. But it is a great trip back to the past.
Im thowing all my eggs in the monsters and memories basket. If that doesnt take me back to the 1990s, then im afraid im truly stuck in the present.
I was a hardcore eq1 player and i long to have that first time experience again.
A bunch of us moved on to EQ2 and i think i made it to 60 but it just didnt hold us as much as EQ1 did and we moved on to other games quite quickly.
Just rolled a Necro on this server and gonna see if I can reignite that spark.
WoW hardcore player here looking for something else, subbed earlier to try this out and having a blast with my friend! Rolled a paladin (my main in every mmo) and he rolled a fury
I couldn't ever get into EQ2 for some reason, I think it was the combat system.
The combat for me starts out fine, then gets bloated after a few expansions.
@@Redbeardflynn I was lost to World of Warcraft for a very long after EQ2 kind of let me down, it does look cool tho.
I think what they should do is run eq1 to PoP. Then start adding new content from there. A season of discovery for eq1.
POP split up so many guilds...it was a sad way to go.

When you watch gameplay for this game, it makes you realize why wow was so popular in 2004
I made a froglok Templar. I never got big into EQ2 back in the day, but I did play it a bit at launch and switched to WoW. No idea if Templar is good.

Gonna watch this when I get home, what platform and when are you usually live?
When possible I try to stream earlier in the day so if I can I try to get a stream in on off-days so around noon or so if I Can and don't have a YT video I need to edit, record, or script.
I also stream on big events as soon as possible: like the origins launch, Fippyfest...etc. So those streams are often dictated by the event schedule.
How Origin did they go? Do you pick your class right away or is like launch where pick a general role at creation and slowly reach your class over a few levels.
Close but not all the way. You pick your class right off, no subclasses. It's the game from 2006 but without expansions currently. They've done a good job so far in recreating a lot of the feel of how it was back then, though. Especially with the number of group mobs.

Everquest 2 got bad Start because there was nothing that was covering it , no advertisement nothing WOW was all over the place with adverts on TV back Then oh and you have my Sub good sir !!

Oh no! I'm so sorry :( I wish they still had the gametime cards like they used to. You might want to reach out to their customer support just on an off chance they have a work-around.
Is there any way to change the NPC chat situation, so you're not clicking on floating bubbles like that?
I think you can turn off the chat bubbles themselves but not where the UI elements are to click quests. I don't even think a custom UI would do that but it might be worth checking eq2interface, they made some awesome customUIs back in EQ2s heydey.
@@Redbeardflynn It's crazy how EQ2 is a cool game but it released at JUST the wrong moment, right before MMOs standardized on some of this stuff. So it feels more antiquated than it really is. It just missed the bus. Like, even LOTRO (which is not that much younger) "feels" better when it comes to UI/interaction.
@@mercster Another major issue for EQ2 beyond its timing was that CPU developers zigged when EQ2 zagged making the game chug more than it needed to for ages.
@@Redbeardflynn Yeah... I use Linux and a bunch of people playing were saying to use --disable-gpu switch in arguments for the command line? Is that associated? Not sure what all that was about, they say it boosts performance because the game is "CPU bound", not sure. Might just be Linux specific.
@mercster chat bubbles were there at launch, and can't be changed without mods. EQ1 didn't have them and you had to type to initiate quests.
@Redbeadflynn my feels for the death of EQ2 is, they did not cater to the casuals at launch, where WoW did (both in gameplay/difficulty and technical specs). Then with the subsequent success of WoW, EQ2 just copied WoWs homework: made all the mobs soloable, stole the subpar crafting system, trivialized leveling, trivialized movement around the world, put quest giver exclamation points over everyone's head and told you where to go and what to do for quests,... and on and on. But, by that point, it was already at the back of the line for WoW clones of the late aughts. Doing this made it so the people that actually grinded their level to 50, or maxed their guild --- by having thousands and thousands of hours of coordinated grinding --- their achievements were immediately eviscerated, when you can just max level in the matter of a few weeks and get a guild to max over a week (that second one still hurts, having managed a 500+player guild, to have them years after launch 'cater to smaller guilds' and having 3 person guilds get max level over a weekend... completely disgusting). tl;dr me just ranting again about eq2 and how casuals ruining everything

@@Redbeardflynn No other players are aloud? If so good good. I'll return but if that's the turnout I'll have to pass
@@Pickle2345 no it's split into different instances because it's a small area. It's not supposed to be overrun with players but there are other players on the island. The server itself lists at heavy load or full.

This... I'm pinning my hopes on eq2emu (because EQ2 says they lost all the old files and don't care to try and find them)... you can 'technically' play in the DoF launch state in eq2emu (where you pick you class, then later your subclass)... which is the closest I've gotten to the vibe that launch had. They even have heroic scarecrows in antonica- so it was before the whole 'everything should be soloable thing'; Also the grind is REAL AF... something I haven't experienced in a minute. Only rub is, it's a bit borked at the moment and there is crazy rubber banding when playing with others. If you're really jonesing for that good good eq2,... check out eq2emu for a taste
I imagine even the devs would agree with you, but they built this version on top of the existing live version of the game, so I think it just wouldn't have been worth the effort to justify recreating that entire process.
The Origins server has brought a ton of that back, including heroic mobs everywhere. Pretty great so far.
