Im about to lay 100 square meters of porcelain. I have never done it before and very nervous but your video has given me confidence. Thank you .
I remember my first time laying porcelain Paul I wrapped myself. Take your time make sure each tile is spot on and you'll be fine .Good luck mate 👍 👌
Thank you. You explained that brilliantly..Doing my own DIY, Done my own building walls and mastered plastering but I didn't have a clue on slabs nor where to start! So here goes, feeling more confident with your guidance. Wish me luck, Thankyou both for making it easier to understand.
Catrin from Llanelli.
Cheers guys.
Your very welcome Catrin and good luck with the patio 👍
Mrs N just passed by and asked me why I was watching someone showing me how to lay slabs and make a mix "you've been doing that for the last 40 years" 😬
They just don't get it, lads! 😂😂

@robdixon786
Thanks Rob plenty of good lads out there though mate 👍
♥️💯👍
I enjoyed that, thank you :)
Yout welcome 👍
Top job, have laboured and work with brickies before and have always enjoyed patios and drainage nothing better than standing back when it’s grouted/pointed up
Enjoy these videos would be nice to add patios to my skill set 👍
Thanks karol
Appreciate it 👍
Fantastic video - I’m about to lay only only 5 slabs but I’ve never done it before, so the principals here are brilliant. So many things I didn’t know! Don’t have a whacker or mixer but will mash it with my sledgehammer and mix in my wheelbarrow. Fingers crossed!
Glad we can help good luck Brian mate 👍
Brilliant vid
Thanks a lot 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping I cringe when I watch that programme Garden Rescue , seen them spot dabbing and all sorts, laying patios on a sprinkle of sub base
Brilliant boyo's !😃
Thanks Graham 👍
You should charge for video Justin. Very informative. Well done boys.
That would be nice tommy wouldn't it 🤣👍
Brilliant tutorial Justin thanks 👍🏻
Your welcome Si 👊
Excellent tutorial vid Justin. Liked the humour today. The pig noises during the pastie eating made me laugh 😆
Thanks Doug
Got to have a laugh very important especially in work 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping And looking at the weather here its prob peeing in Wales at the moment 🥲
@Doug.... just starting rain now as we speak doug nothing unusual about it raining here mate 🤣🤣👍
Spot on
Cheers Dave 👍
Great detailed video Justin . 👌🏼
Was the last third filmed on green screen as it looked too sunny ☀️ 😎🤣🧱👍🏽😊
🤣🤣 dont no what happened steve the lights came on 😎 now there definitely off again wales is to wet for working outside its killing us to be honest mate had so many days off since October.
Hope you and Alex and family are well 👍🧱🧱🧱
Hi Justin do you have a go to product for cleaning the porcelain before grouting if you have a bit of cement residue on some slabs?
Can use any outdoor Porcelain cleaner or just jetwash the day before grouting Pedro🙌
Another great video. Would you consider doing one on laying random pattern Indian stone? Would be good to see how you go about keeping joints tight, a consistent width and aligned, and is there an answer to the mystery of the small square?I
Keep up the good work👍👍
Hi Jc there are videos on the channel with what you requested 😀 👍
Ever thought laying on fibre reinforced screed? You can buy it ready mixed. Saved days and days in labour on site and is a stronger mix.
Yes ive actually used the screed before was very good 👍
Great work 🎉 Kuina was zoro’s rival and best friend.
Wales is amazing rain or shine ! Can you suggest and scenic places to stay …we’re coming over for a week in September 👍🏻 on a side note I’m just coming to the end of laying our 1200x600 porcelain slabs 😅😅 absolute beastly work just gotta take my hat off to how easy you guys make it look 💪🏻✊🏻
Paul its definitely a high skill set to lay porcelain now mate .
Spot on with zoros friend.
Wales is beautiful but i don't like it here it just rains to much for me .
Brecon Brecons is nice mountain walks
A canal ,reservoirs, water falls etc all stunning.
Then you have the Pembrokeshire cost line you can walk the entire cost of wales .the cost here is lovely with lots to do on the water .Rhossili bay walk and beach and a pint in the pub .if its nice weather you will love wales fingers crossed .here is my video of a family day out in Rhossili wild horses ,views and a pint at the end check it out if you want paul its on the playlist. Enjoy our country and a big welsh welcome mate 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping thanks 🙏🏻 sounds absolute quality 🤩
Another really helpful video! How many of those 600 slabs can you get out of a mix Justin? And also how long a working time do you have on a mix roughly before it’s no good anymore? Thanks
Maybe about 3 tiles or so never really count em .
As for the time with the cement it will vary on the weather condition but say 14 degrees by around an hour or but you can just turn it over in the barrow to fluff it up
Get your thin all water proof gloves great for porcelain and in these conditions. Saves taking gloves off and on. Nice video buddy.
Yes spot on lee 👏 👌
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping
Portwest. Gloves. Supreme. Gloves
Maxidry also premium price but quality
@lmilne4859
Ill have a look lee might as well it rains every day here so 👍
Lol was sunny last week in wales had to do work in my mums garden pity she's about 2 hours from cardiff or I'd tell her to ring you guys to do patio for her the local workers did a bodge up for her shed base she had to have taken down as her shed was 2 foot too high cos they didn't wanna do any digging 😔
3 days of sun means 9 months of rain now 🤣🤣 or shame about your mum mate hope its all good now 👍
As a brickie and did a bit of slabbing at the end of jobs I was always taught that there’s no need for plasticiser/feb mix as the mix is coarser so less need for an air entrainer ?
Each to there own neil 👍🙌
Hi what cutting blades do you use on your porcelain I all ways like to find out which blades are better thank you
Elite stone tools just google them 👍
Really great video. Thank you for posting it! One question: the video starts with the sub layer already installed. What’s under your sub layer?
Thanks very much .100mm of mot type 1 .take a look at our other videos we show plenty with the base being done 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping
I apologize for not being clearer. My question was What's underneath the Mot Type 1 sub-layer? Was it an old layer of concrete? Was it dirt? Thanks!
@@oil_can
Dirt
Did you dry bond before actually setting them in place with the mortar ?
Yes we spray the area out with the bond to us and the customer can confirm its good 👍
Does the porcelain get a sediment build up when laying so close to the wall?
No never seen that William
Excellent demonstration on mixing the cement Fray!! Would the mix be exactly the same for using on bricks/blocks, or building a natural stone wall? Would you use sharp sand or builders sand? Also, would it be made wetter? Or just about as you did in the video?
Hi ben
Thanks mate .
For bricklaying its building sand and a wetter mix .
For stone work id use sharp sand with a drier mix 👌
@brickrightbuildinglandscaping thanks!! Love your videos!! I think I have pretty much watched every one. Keep up the good work, guys!!! Fray, you're coming on in leaps and bounds. Both with your work and in front of the camera. Awesome team!
@Bentlegstaffy
Appreciate the support im calling you ben to shorten your profile name what is you actual name ?
You watched every video wow really appreciate it thanks so much from all of us 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping my name is Chris Bentley. Bentlegs Taffy is a nickname. Bentlegs because of my surname and Taffy for our wonderful country.
@Bentlegstaffy
Great nickname chris 👍
Hey just a quick question regarding the mix quantities ?
We use 4 sharp sand to 1 cement 👍
Well done Justin, well video'd and describing the process 👏 I just wonder, if you had a long run and need to know your finish level, would you do a string and check the angle of that? Don't have to answer if you were going to do another video about longer runs 👍
Thanks
Yes definitely use a line on longer runs as we've shown in other videos 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping Thank you mate, will look back at your other video's, you sure got a lot of em.
@bikerchrisukk
🤣🤣 i no building up now arnt they .
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping You aint wrong there, just missing one showing how to do a welsh accent 😆
@bikerchrisukk
🤣🤣 you dont want a welsh accent mine isn't strong is it or no ? Mines more a cardiff accent which is a bit different 🤣🤣👍
I remember the issue with the levels at the front Justin, but done a good just as always. On another note, what’s your go to blade for the rubi bridge saw ? The last rubi blade I had wasn’t that impressed with and pricey too !
Using free blade from rubi at mo and its brilliant to be honest best blade ive had .
Normally use the Henry's blades at elite stone tools but gonna try phil from pulvex blades who i have been told are very good .issue with rubi blades is they arnt cheap over £100 which isn't great is it mark👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping thanks Justin I’ll have to take the plunge I think !
@markbriers4302
🤣🤣 sorry made me laugh that considering it a plunge saw Mark 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping haha ! I did think that too !
That was john with the big beard an big hat from Wiltshire 😂
🤣🤣🤣 brilliant 👍
I notice some guys setup a tile each side to use to run a string line off and lay to.
Youre laying just with a level, do you not struggle whem the porcelain tiles are not completely flat, often they are bowed slightly (bellied)
Couldn't set a line up as we left the original manholes in temporarily were to high for the lines .
Yea some have a camber in tiles 👍
Aco with an A not Eco drains Justin 😂 small squegee Justin for primer, you’ll never look back mate, just the wooden handle with the black rubber on them
🤣 yea i always say eco aco is just a brand name .ill try the squegee thanks for the tip great 👍 👌
Have I mist something you have not mentioned the mix sand to cement
Hi Neil
Its for parts sharp sand to one part cement 👍
Sound quality is superb , still can't understand what Fray says though !!!
Hmm yea will have to get a mic on fra aswell then .Thanks Scott appreciate you mate 👍
Price work 🤔
Top job main man still got it 😂
The only thing ive got is a fat stomach and grey hair danny 🤣🤣👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping we all end up with one of them 🤣it's normal
@dannyhogi4953
🤣🤣 i aint normal but thanks for trying Danny 🤣👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping lol me to off my rocker me 🤣 everyone like your not normal
What tiles did you use for this please?
Marshalls arrento porcelain 600mm x 600mm
Never put slabs that tight against the main building always leave 3inch gap ,,many reasons for this,,,groundworkers dont really get this but thats why there not bricklayers
I am a bricklayer. Its contentious that i think as long as your 150 mm below dpc its not needed .if you however encroach on dpc then yes its useful to stop splash back above damp .Yes you have a point in certain situations i would agree and i gonna look more into it .
Thanks 👍
Good laying but we use the levelling system we find it give it the best finish as it finds that last mm that takes the effort out of checking with levels and chance of on slab dropping from hitting the next slab over
The mic sounding good mate!
Yes! Fluffing up your bed is how I do it on a wet bed! Seen a lot lately about not putting the point of your trowel through the bed, absolute bull 💩
Good tip on reading the level with pressure, not easy to explain
One thing though…..wtf is an Eco drain 🤣🙈
Thanks matty appreciate that .
Eco drain mate its the new aco 🤣🤣🤣 its welsh for aco 🤣🤣 nar its what ive always called it 🤣👍
Dear Brickrighters, I found that a paint roller is very fast, comfortable and accurate to spread the slurry. I did so for my own 60m2 patio last week.
Best regards from Germany
Wolfram
Thanks Wolfram
Appreciate the advice and hope your patio went well .
Danke. 👍🙌👌
Dear Brickrighters, thanks for your reply. My patio went all well with the last silicone joints today. Best regards from Germany Wolfram

arent u supposed to make the sub base have a fall
Yes its got one
Big yellow is 2m!

Made sure he brought his own shitters to the job, fair play
What silly sausage drinks monster ! Omg
Steven i no nothing about em dont drink any of em 😂👍

Seafood diet ian 🤣🙌
Are my eyes deceiving me or did you relay the first set of slabs
No never relayed any slabs chris 👍
Audio sounds more professional Justin you wild wilderbeast
Thanks Jimmy and yes i often get called a wild wildebeest 🤣🤣 that was Brad the welsh wildebeest 🤣🤣👍
My god.
Yes 🤣👍🙌
Hey don't forget. If you don't draw a zip in the muc. Everything will be fucked😂
Yep 🤣
Wet cement no good must be semi dry
Nonsense
I disagree oliver i think a wet mix or a semi dry is equally fine and both are acceptable 👍
Why can't the mix be wet? I've laid a couple of porcelain patios with a wet mix, not had any issues.
I've been tiling for 40 years also with all the biggest tile companies in the UK obviously I know nothing
@@joefowler9600 my goodness you've laid 2 patios your so experienced
Might get it finished by 2027
🤣🤣 feels like that sometimes Danny 🤣
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping great job and explained well !
@DannySmith-ez2yb thanks Danny mate 👍
If you think its wet in Wales, try living in Northern Ireland. Last year it rained 280 days in the year. Weve had 30 dry days in 2024 so far and its only June. Beautiful country for the 4 weeks you can get out the house. Only getting worse. If you are a climate denier come over get wet.
Definitely climate change at least wales isn't the only country that gets soaked then .
Awful aint it let's hope for sun together 🤣👍👌
3 hours a year 😂😂😂
Maybe i meant 2 peter 🤣🤣🤣
Make me laugh these videos clueless 😣
🤣
