    It’s crazy how these linear West African rhythms have permeated our culture to this day. These grooves are the direct ancestors of backbeat oriented music and spawned rhythms like Cumbia, Second Line, Soca and even Reggae. From the coastal Carolinas all the way to Louisiana.
    Amazing living history. Peace!

    "So the world can't do me no harm." Two-wings...wow! They're actually referring to the 'Iwa" fly away. I just wish more of us could get the opportunity to learn more about our ancestors, ritual, ceremonies, and traditions. Bless the Geechee Gullah people!

      I asked for answers tonight, and as always, I receive more clarity.
      Isaiah 6 "1) In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2) Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying."

    I had the pleasure of seeing the shouters in person last night (2.2.2019) at the Mims Center in Willington SC. Awesome performance, teaching moments and history combined! Looking forward to the CNN special and hoping they're in town when I visit Charleston SC.

      @TheMkello2003 The Founder was a Two Headed Doctor and came from a line of two headed doctors. So there is a lot of Hoodoo practiced especially when I was growing up. Working with roots and oils, talismans, biblomancy, hex and curse breaking. They didn't say it waa hoodoo but those who knew know

    • @MSILBB
      @MSILBB Před 2 lety +12

      Correct grammaticality is based on the grammar of a particular language. African American speech patterns are not based upon European grammaticality African patterns. Unfortunately many Black Americans have internalized their native language as inferior because of Europeans and their racism.

    Have y’all thought maybe the Geeche people are the actual Israelites of the Bible. The IGBO tribe are said to be the descendants of Eri , Son of Gad who is one of the sons of Jacob.

    • @Gullahbae-xm6ms
      @Gullahbae-xm6ms Před 4 měsíci +1

      Gullah Geechee people are the descendants of Africans and Indigenous peoples, not Hebrews. Get over it!

  • @ronaldjohnson783
    @ronaldjohnson783 Před 4 lety +4

    To my Gullah/Geechees... The name Gullah is in the Strong's Bible dictionary as a Hebrew name on the Hebrew section 1353 (Please look this up for yourselves)
    . Yah'll (we) are Hebrews. Our names were not mis-pronounced as Angola or Golas although some of our ancestors were from there. Geechees are the Yamasee or Yahmassee (Yah) (Yahweh) who were also Hebrews (Maroons, Guale, Yamacraw, Creek Aborigines) Cum-by-Yah, Ah-ha-Yah, We-Ben-Yah (We Son of Yah), Hallelu-Yah

    • @akint814
      @akint814 Před 3 lety +26

      As someone from West Africa, this style of singing and dancing has nothing to do with Hebrew people , and these women are singing and dancing in the exact same way people back home in West Africa dance. The myth of Hebrew/Native American origins is downplaying my own African lineage that is present in America. Be proud to be African Ronald.

    • @ronaldjohnson783
      @ronaldjohnson783 Před 3 lety

      @@akint814 The myth is that we as Gullah Geechees are from Africa. We are not. Africans were never under one name, one religion, one dance, nor one language. 95 percent of Africans were taken to south america, not north america.

    • @ronaldjohnson783
      @ronaldjohnson783 Před 3 lety +1

      @@akint814 95 percent of African slaves were taken to south America. This means, we been cya and aint gwine no where. You people would rather believe a lie than do some simple research. Look up the Gullah wars, We are the real Seminoles

    • @akint814
      @akint814 Před 3 lety +6

      @@ronaldjohnson783 why would you prove your point using facts about slavery that have been given to you to claim 95% were taken to S. America, but not evidence of language and music and dance that are clearly from the Motherland? You can claim the roots of a people that enslaved Africans all you want I guess. My wifes own descendants were enslaved by Seminoles and Choctaw, so you can claim that all you want rather than claim a people with a rich history connected to West and Central Africa. Yes some Gullah Geechee connected with Seminoles, but why would you discount the history of such a beautiful people from Africa? It's beautiful that so many Gullah Geechee people sing songs from Liberia and have names from the Kikongo language.

      I would love to chat with you to tell you about how the hoax stories around Black people being Hebrew and/or Native Americans was devised by white capitalist movements in the early 20th century to suppress Black diaspora solidarity movements centered around social cohesion.
