Also I realized when I was editing that I didn't put my makeup removing wipes in yet (because I had to order them and they aren't here yet) but those will go in as well so I can take off my makeup before bed on the plane. I hope you enjoyed the video! Can't wait to bring you along for all the adventures!

Two things - all bathrooms I visited in Japan had toilet paper, but almost none have paper towels and many did not have a hand dryer either. I brought a little towel in my backpack to dry hands. And, most shops charge for plastic bags and there are virtually no trash cans in public areas so it would be a great idea to take along your little shopping bag to either put purchases in or to carry around trash (empty cups, bottles, wrappers) until you can find a trash can somewhere!

Thanks for mentioning not to wear or use strong scents on a flight. Most times it’s not malicious but once someone does it it’s too late for those of us that suffer! So thank you again!!

Please, definitely do the follow-up on what you did and didn't use after you return. Those types of videos are eye-opening and oh so thought provoking. Safe travels. Have the best trip ever!

Money savers: A bit of TP in a ziplock bag. Grocery store produce bags for shoes. (Bonus: this allows you to wrap shoes individually to fit it available space.) Carry a washcloth somewhere to use as a hand towel. On a recent trip, I saw people doing this and thought “why didn’t I think of that!?”

One of the best international travel comfort items I’ve ever bought is a tiny Sea to Summit inflatable seat cushion-those seats feel HARD after a while and it saved me on a long flight to Europe

I legit can’t imagine 12 hours in coach. I have restless legs among other issues and I worry about flying to Europe!

Most restaurants, karaoke bars, and stores in Tokyo do give out face masks even before COVID days. It’s part of their culture.

Excellent video. I love the paper copy of important numbers. I take a picture of our suitcases. I always travel with Imodium. I read a tip to put a large ziplock bag in the seat pocket and then put your stuff in there. I bring chocolates for the stewards and stewardesses on a long flight. (Maybe some for me…definitely snacks!!!!). I take Melatonin to calm my nervous flying woes. Bring Tylenol, Bonine and gum.

Pen story time! In 2013 I traveled with my then boyfriend to Japan. We went through customs separately, I went first. Once you were through, you couldn‘t see back into the line because of a wall/angle change. I waited, and waited, and waited. 20min and my only thought was „how did I possibly lose the 6‘2 guy in Japan?“ and „Crap. He has all the hotel information“. He finally pops out, turns out he tried to fill out a customs form with a pencil and he got sent back to redo it. I still tease him any time he has to fill something official out.

Great video Jen. I just traveled on a 10 hr international flight and all of your info is great. Yes, I used the toilet paper several times. And I bought slippers at the dollar store to wear on the plane and just left them on the plane. Small roll of duct tape-you wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve used it

The person with the pen on the plane becomes everyone’s friend! I travel with 3 or 4 spare so I can pass them around. One time I was even allowed by others on the plane to get off first even though I was near the middle.

That's a good collection. I'm going on a 7 hour flight in a couple of weeks. My comfort-entertainment items are: headphones, Kindle, Ipad (have streamed series on it), charger for those devices, a small notebook (even though I have an iPad, I like to write notes on paper); I bring one non-bulky jacket in case it gets cold, snacks - lots of wrapped snacks. (Of course I always keep my meds with me. and a travel size toothbrush w toothpaste.). I'll probably buy a neck pillow at the airport. - But my most important items my entertainment ones! - I had a miserable flight a long time ago before iPads and kindles existed. I did a flight to Ireland from the US, and had put my paper book in the side panel of my suitcase, intending to take it out before I checked my suitcase. Well, I forgot to get that book and didn't realize it until I was on the plane. I had to beg for magazines - at least they had magazine back then. So, I'm hyper vigilant to have hours of entertainment because I can't sleep on a plane.

I am sending my two sons, aged 25 and 22, to Japan for a month in May. My oldest and I went together for two weeks in 2019 and it was amazing! They are total opposites so it will be great or a huge mistake. 😂

    1. I appreciate you continually mentioning that the stuff that you're packing is what works for you what works for somebody else might be different. I feel that a lot of times on social media we see people going " you HAVE to have XXX" , and it's nice to recognize that everyone travels different and may need different things. My best friend had a child on the spectrum and her packing for trips looks WAY different. But it's what works for her.

  • @merry3733

Thank you! My daughter lives overseas so I've done the long flight several times, but I learned a LOT from this video and the comments (never thought to put a bit of toilet paper in my seat organizer bag). Two items I would like to mention: 1. Travelon has an inexpensive seat organizer back similar to the Monos bag you mention. Has a clear back so you can use your tablet without removing. 2. My doctor recommended a self-inflating lumbar cushion to avoid a rounded back, especially when dozing. Game changer for comfort!!!

  • @nana2fivegirls

Thank you for mentioning medication restrictions. I had not even thought about that. Added a visit to my physician to my to do list.
