  • What if we told you that there is a #TurkishDessert called #Katmer that can make your marriage longer and sweeter? According to a local tradition, the bride and groom should eat #TurkishKatmer after their first night together to have a peaceful marriage that lasts long. But, what exactly is Katmer? Katmer, also known as kattama, katlama, or gambir, is a fried layered bread common in the cuisines of the Middle East and Central Asia.
The oldest Turkish #KatmerRecipe is 500 years old and it has been passed from generation to generation. There are many types of Katmer made with different local ingredients of the region. In #Turkey, on central #Anatolia, Katmer is made with salted dough. In the South, however, it is made with table sugar that melts in the oven and makes Katmer as sweet as a pie.
If you are planning to #visitTurkey make sure to taste this delicious #TurkishSweets in its hometown of #Gaziantep. The locals of this Southern Turkish town usually consume Katmer on breakfast to start the day on a sweet note. Walking around the streets of Gaziantep, you may even spot vending machines that are specifically made for Katmer.
