    Last year the price of Black Bowmore Aston Martin was £50.000, I think you said in the Video £25.000

      Argh. You're right. My mind must have melted at the fact they charged £50k for whisky that could be bought for £11k - also changes their gross return to over £1,250,000 from the sale of TWENTY FIVE BOTTLES 🤯

      Definitely but don’t forget the quaich a symbol of Scotland and Scottish history basically means cup and has been used for centuries for drinking whisky

    The Johnnie Walker Ghost and Rare Port Ellen Blue label. I think JW as a brand is incredibly hyped for no good reason.

    Thanks Mark for this important educational information, always learning about the industry, I'm new in this subject just 1 year to be precise, but I can say, talking with my family back in Perú they always question me how much money can pay for a bottle of scotch, yesterday I mentioned them about Maccallan prices they almost cry, now the NAS growing too fast in ptices, notice as well the Springbank very difficult to buy that whisky lover3shoud consider line an special occasion dram due to the scarcity, even considered like a unicorn whisky, I didn't realize how much I love Scotch nowadays, and always happy to try a new dram, all the best🤘😊

    Hi Mark,, thank you for another very informative video ! but, I'm always nervous watching your video,, worry u might knock over those fancy high-end bottles sidplay on the cask! LOL

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety

      Hi Ben! I know - the cask has a big metal rim around the top too so if one does tip over it will go with a bang! Still, a lot safer than people putting their bottles on glass shelves!!

    Great video. Thanks.
    Although not a single bottle, I find the whisky advent calendars expensive. Not a bad way to try some new tipples, but from
    £150 - £10,000, seems expensive.
    A review of these before Christmas would be great.

    Appreciate this history on the infamous Black Bowmore. But wanted to say your audio is bang on and I don’t even see a lav mic. Not sure how you did that but it works perfectly. Usually I can hear inconsistencies in a boom and shotgun mic. But I don’t hear that here. Well done all around.

  • @jslee225

    Offfff this is a tough question because there are so many due to the chasing of profits and the corresponding rise of NAS. One recent one that I had the “opportunity” to purchase at retail was the Macallan Distil Your World - London Edition. For a $5000 whisky with a NAS and the use of sherry “seasoned” casks was a decision I struggled with, but ultimately decided to pass on. Although it is likely to at least retain msrp value there are sleepers out there that if the market turned and I decided to open the bottle I’m confident it would be a better price to quality ratio.

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety +1

      NAS NAS NAS! It really is what people want isn't it. I think there is a certainly a correlation between release price and secondary market success. Bottles need to be priced low enough to capture attention from the wider audience from the start. The Laphroaig Ian Hunter series are so cheap comapred to the Folio but no one is buying them. But at £750 release price it's a touch high maybe. It's all packaging isn't it. That Distill Your World bottle is very well presented, but like you say...what the 3 year old whisky inside it like 😂😂
      😂😂

    Great video Mark and as always educational, I always find out new information through your videos. What sources do you use to get the additional background info?
    In regards to the most overrated whisky - has to be MacAllan Folio 1, making insane money at auctions £8,000 for the £250 NAS that has barely been drink and just keeps getting flipped due to unexplained hype from the “collectors”. There is no provenance or pedigree to Folio and those (few) who drank it are far from impressed by the quality. This does not stop it making over 32,000% in gains.

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Dan, glad youliked the video!
      With regards to what sources we use it tends to just be a lot of odd books, anecdotal notes in magazines etc. There really is no central source of data - which is what we thought we would do on this channel and our blog.
      Agreed re Folio 1 too ;)

  • @MaltDaddy
    @MaltDaddy Před 2 lety +1

    Macallan concept number 1 and edition number 1. Normal NAS whiskies that are inflated now in price i dont see the value here except maybe the printed letters?

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety

      NAS seems to be King at the moment doesn't it - are people blind to the fact that almost all the 25 YO Anniversary Malts are cheaper than a Private Eye?!

    • @MaltDaddy
      @MaltDaddy Před 2 lety

      @@MarkLittler Well Private eye could be a different story primarily because only 5000 bottles were produced. Unlike today's NAS "limited editions" which are at least 84,000 bottle production or more (some even 6 figures). Also because you covered it initially in one of your videos so you are responsible for the skyrocketing price of private eyes hahaha!

  • @AllenLiu128
    @AllenLiu128 Před 2 lety +1

    Interesting question. I'd say the most overrated bottle is the Macallan Edition 1. I've not had it and I'm sure it's fine. But for over $1k? Hmm, I'll take a Springbank 25 please.

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety

      Hi Allen - exactly. The Edition 1, or even Folio 1, just contain cheap whisky so are never going to be record breakers are they. This is an important difference too that we are going to talk about in a video on Monday - there is a difference between what a 'whisky' is worth and what a 'bottle' is worth. I think some people need to understand that more, not only to stop the collector/investor hatred that is out there, but also to make people think about what they are spending their money on. I mean, £10k for a Folio 1....come on...

    Hi! This was priceless! This sort of analysis is so helpfull. Thank you very much. At this point in time I cannot think of any other whisky more overrated than the Japanese whisky. It is not only overpriced but misleading in the actual content and so overhiped. Most of it has no right to be at the same price range of many other much older and better presented whiskys. How can a Ichiro’s malt,young whisky, be up there with many 30 yos. Its mental! Cheers!

      Hi Daslo - thank you for you kind words - that really means a lot! We put a lot of time and energy into these videos and these comments really mean a lot. Haha - I know what you mean re most Japanese whisky too. Have you had the chance to try many of them? I've never really had the chance sadly.

      @@MarkLittler Hi there! Thanks for reply. I'm following this channel very closely. You do a great work. Keep it up! I've tryed some japanese whiskys. The Nikka from the barel has a great quality/price offer (even thought the quality has been taking a hit on recent releases), Akashi white oak its also decent, but the Nikka coffey malt which is as sweet as a soup spoon of honey. Lol I mainly go after boulder flavours but enjoy the delicate ones also. As per my expirience the japanese ones are more floural, light and perfumy. Much like grain whisky. There are some that I have my eye on but could never reward them by paying those prices, more even,knowing that many of them can be mixed imported scotch or indian whisky (they are trying to have some laws to increase transperancy, like stating "world whisky", because the informed consumers are letting them know it is not OK). Thanks again. Cheers!

    Got to say Japanese whisky in general simply not worth the money now. Looking at £100+ for a 12yo which may well have been distilled in Scotland to begin with.

    • @MarkLittler
      @MarkLittler  Před 2 lety

      Yes - there is a real disparity isn't there between the modern nonsense and the older, rarer releases. The Greater Fool Theory answers a lot of questions I feel...
