How Bobby Lou never won a Vezina Trophy is an absolute travesty, dude was a brick wall for the Canucks
Winning the Vezina is little overrated anyways. The GM’s vote on it. But the fact that he was nominated for it multiple times, however, shows how Luongo consistently performed at a high level.
because voters suck. his career should have ended with a hart, vezina, jennings, masterton/clancy, stanley cup, gold medals in every international event, 2nd most games for a goalie, 1 of around only 5 goalie captains (first in around 100 years and the last), possibly the 2nd best overall playoff career for a canuck behind linden (outside of some unfortunate chokes), etc. if you look at 2007, 2011 shenanigans, and so on.
@@adamcolebaybay8812 Ya I agree. 2007 Hart's more arguable, but Luongo had pretty much nothing to work with, yet he still single-handedly dragged his team into the postseason with a 70+ game performance. Crosby had a lot more to work with. The rest are a complete joke and especially the Vezina. How are you the only goalie to get a Hart nominee and other nominees outside of the Vezina but not at least win that? Whether you think the Bruins would've won either way or not doesn't change the fact that 2011 was a mess all around and is still debatable who the real winner would've been otherwise, so your shenanigans part is accurate, I agree with that.
He deserved the Vezina in 2004 and 2007 for sure.
He almost won a few times but tragically he lost by very slim margins during those times
All of them are on that list of the greatest players to never win a Cup. Shows just how hard it is to win that trophy

I still think Roberto Luongo should easily get his jersey retired here. Many of the arguments against do not work after how many Buffalo has without a Stanley Cup, Ryan Miller getting his, since the one in Florida really should not have happened but they were desperate to finally retire one, etc. Many bring up his lack of accomplishments, but he should have won a Vezina over Brodeur in 2007 (and probably a Hart as well over Crosby) when he was a top 3 MVP candidate that year. Voters are just weird. Masterton was also another thing he should have gotten considering he is only one of like 4 and the last goalie to get the Captaincy and playing the 2nd most games ever for a goalie. He was also nominated for those loads of times instead of just being a one or two-year wonder.
I really do not understand the argument to only have him in Ring of Honour. Especially that weird #1 jersey argument by saying you need to be extremely special if you wear that number. If he is not good enough to have his #1 in the rafters then literally no one will be in our entire history. Better chance of the planet blowing up before we get another candidate like that who wears his number that played here for as long. It is just a number out of 100 like any other that a goalie can wear. Do not get people who hold that one in particular to some weird level.
