- I went down to my P.O. box yesterday and found there was both a letter and box from Australia. I was excited to see this as I have never been sent anything from Australia before. Inside the box was something I wasn't expecting, a BWL AC6000 Australian diesel! This was an incredibly generous gift and I would like to give South Aussie Train Spotter a big thanks for it!

GE AC6000CW's, only ordered by 3 railroads, Union Pacifc, CSX, and BHP (As the one you have) Southern Pacific had 3 on order but the UP acquisition happened before they were delivered. This locomotive and BHP's 7 other AC6000CW's currently hold the world record for the longest and heaviest train ever pulled in 2001. Per Wiki "On June 21, 2001, all eight of the Australian railroad BHP Billiton's GE AC6000s combined to set the world record for the heaviest and longest train. They hauled 99,734 tonnes (98,159 long tons; 109,938 short tons) and 682 wagons for 275 kilometres (171 miles) between Yandi mine and Port Hedland. The train was 7.3 kilometres (4.536 miles) long and carried 82,000 tonnes (81,000 long tons; 90,000 short tons) of iron ore. The record still stands." Some AC6000's still exist in the US, and are usually identified by the bigger rear radiator section when compared to AC4400's, Saw a UP one earlier today in their yard nearest to me.
Do they really have 6000 horse power the BHP locos or do they only have 4400hp because the North American ones were down graded because of various issues
Nathaniel Lum They were built with 6000 hp, but UP and CSX did downgrade them, not sure about the BHP engines but I’d guess they’re still 6000 hp.
Good explanation. CSX sold off almost all of their AC6000s and UP is rebuilding them and downgrading the power.
@@DatTrainGuyProductions I dont think any AC6000 locos remain on class one railroads. I heard somewhere csx had gotten rid of em all and thought i heard up did to
AC6000CWs were bought by NS and CP too jackass
Cool you can see these pulling extremely long iron ore trains in the Australian outback.
Delvin Rodriguez true I lived nere a train track when I was 7 all the big rigs came past so loud though
@@pushalongdonald7617 Cool!
Aparrently those ore trains were the longest in the world, beating America by a little bit
That is absolutley gorgeous!!! 👍
Yay, it finally got there. I sent it on the 10th of May. Really glad that you like it, have you been able to get the sound to work on it?
He doesn't know it has sound. D'oh! Needs to press F8... right?
John ....BC, Canada
Thank you so much again for sending it! I read that it had sound on the box but I wasn't able to get it to work and read something else about how you it needs a decoder so I wasn't sure if that meant it needed a sound decoder and had a regular one installed.
@@Zebrails F8 usually mutes stuff but I clicked it anyway and it didn't seem to do anything.
BLI blue line engines use separate decoders for sound and motor control, sometimes this can cause problems when the 2 decoders don't 'talk' to each other. it is also possible (although unlikely!) that the 2 decoders have different addresses.
Is the decoder lock CV activated on the BlueLine decoder?
That locomotive is just outstanding.......love the look and the paint scheme.
Smt the locomotive is a GE AC6000 and the loco was built in the USA and then they were shipped to Australia
Those locomotives operate in the Pilbara which is a huge desert in Western Australia where we get out iron ore, our iron ore is shipped around the world. This loco would haul a consist up to 2 kilometres long and transport ore across the desert
The reason why they are called GE Ac6000Cw is because they have 6,000 HP under the hood, the only other locomotive with that kind of power is the EMD SD90Mac-H ty for showing us your awesome video!
Lovely engine, and nice to see it hauling such a load at the end!
The nameplate esque paint near the cab window has to be my favorite bit, as it just looks like it was originally styled for a British export industrial steam locomotive, and then they continued the naming tradition on this new engine.
This is a rarity diesel engine you received Australian BHP wow! I'm happy for you. enjoy. ☺️
It looked derailed I think that was why it didn’t start
Your exactly right! The front trucks were not on the rail properly! Problem #1!
You can see At 6:58
It looks like you are right but the rear truck was on just fine so I don't think that was why it didn't start.
No I saw one of the traction motors off The track and that was the back one
@@FPHfan-pz3th one of the wheelsets.
Wow it is very nice. I would want to visit Australia some day
Awesome Aussie Aussie Aussie hoy hoy hoy, very cool cheers KC Tasmania Australia
One interesting thing about the AC6000CW is that there is actually two types of them. There's the true AC6000CW and there is the AC6000CW "convertible" which is essentially the same locomotive except equipped with a 16 cylinder 4400hp diesel engine. To my knowledge, Union Pacific is the only railroad to roster both versions.
Nice gift.
That harrison its a ac6000 you can tell by the big over hang at the rear
Broadway limited sells some of the most expensive locomotives out there.
Collin Suitor I agree , it’s also some of the highest quality (in my opinion). It’s very expensive but you get your bang for your buck. Someday I can’t wait to own a broadway limited
This has got to be one of the best locomotives in the collection.
Those locos Australia uses for the Iron ore trains I know that because I’m in Australia in Western Australia 🇦🇺 They were featured on the show called railroad Australia
You can see that Because it says BHP Iron Ore on the side.
Man that thing runs smooth as glass congratulations
Wow, that is awesome! That is a BluLine! I own one of these HO Scale models, too. I have the newer Paragon3 System + smoke unit equipped version in the CSX Paint scheme. BLI makes some nice models!
Very nice and detailed loco. Great video SMT, as always!
Those aussies are the nicest people, love chatting with them
That's awesome I plan of going around the world with my custom polar Express and putting the different flags on the back of the tender
I agree, send the good Aussie a few boxes of pop tarts!
I would be happy to send some but do you think some people may see that as unfair since I'm sending one person poptarts but not everyone else?
True, but the Aussies are special people after all! You're right it is a bit of a dilemma.
Those BLI C60AC’s are great runners and really strong pullers
Very nice locomotive. It's too bad all of the AC6000CWs were scrapped in Australia. Thank goodness a decent few are still serving in the United States, but most with 4,400 horsepower prime movers.
For your information BHP is Broken Hill Properties, one of the largest mining companies in Australia and Broken Hill is also a place aswell, great video thankyou from Wairoa in New Zealand
Quinn's letter is so heartwarming. And that loco is awesome. Dogger Bend must be jealous rn...
Best wishes

BHP Iron Ore operates in north Western Australia. They will use several locos linked up to pull hundreds or carts full of iron ore from the mines to the port of Port Hedland! That should let you check the area that the train works in!
Thanks for the “awesome”compliment about Australian trains. You should get a 3801 model
Man, you lucky! I love the Australian railways! Actually, the Mexican and South American railroads as well. In addition to my Chicago railroad fleet, I have my heart set on starting to build up a Mexican fleet. Maybe even some Brazilian units as well if I'm lucky enough to find any.
Fra gee lay, must be Italian. Austrian? No, wait, it's Australian. Hope it doesn't hop off the rails. Yes, that's it, this locomotive shall be known as "The Blue Kangaroo." But seriously, another awesome locomotive to add to your collection, Harrison. Gonna be another popular request on the livestreams. But wait...
Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
That's a gorgeous diesel and a great addition to your collection
Nice video of a beautiful down under locomotive.
Oooh Australian? That’s really cool SMT!
Beautiful, so smooth 👍
Wow, what a cool locomotive in a livery I’ve never seen. That’s a great track setup you have too
That train has amazing detail. Love it.
It's Australian, but most Aussies will never have seen one. They operated far in the North West away from the general population.
Most of our railways run slightly smaller locomotives, still powered by EMD or GE engines but built locally.
That's really awesome you were just given a BLI locomotive!
The BHP iron ore system operates many iron ore railroads in Western Australia, in which most of their locomotives were imported off-the-shelf American designs. Hamersley Iron and Pilbara iron are the other major iron ore railroad owners in Western Australia, which at one point owned a British GWR steam engine.
Outside of those lines, many Australian are based on American and British designs with components coming from companies in those countries. Many of the EMD-style cab units are still in service down under.
Great video! That locomotive looks pretty good
australian's have some really cool trains
I've never seen a modern Australian locomotive, kind of reminds me of the Microsoft police train
Wow! That’s awesome. Huge locomotive.
Lol when he said thank you so so much by the end I wonder how many people said your welcome other than the real person who sent that train lol
I have the Union Pacific version and the sound on it works. It’s the LOUDEST locomotive I own, and I like that a lot. Hope your doing well! Cheers from the USA! 🇺🇸
I have two of these locos, but in the orange and grey paint scheme. If you folks reckon the blue is smart, check out the other paintwork, it is up another level. I've seen these units in real life life in Port Hedland and they are monsters. Oh, and if you have to wait at a rail crossing for one of "our" ore trains, you turn your engine off!
Australia has a railroad called Genesee & Wyoming and they use F units still!!!
GWA or Genesee & Wyoming Australia actually don't use "F Units". They use 3 classes of Clyde EMD built units. These are GM Class (1800HP), CLF Class and CLP Class (both rated @ 3000HP). Whilst they have the appearance of an "F Unit" they are actually not F Units.
It used to be the same Genesee & Wyoming that operates in the United States, but G&W sold the Australian brand a few months back.
They operate here too but under the Q&G name. I like how they're still using equipment from that era still.
@@SMTMainline In my area we have NECR which is in New England and it is owned by G&W
The only F unit I've seen in Australia was in the train park in Port Hedland, WA - not sure now whether it was painted for Mt Newman or Cliffs Robe River Iron (forerunners of BHP Iron Ore).
its funny watching this back and seeing a canadian discover australian stuff
Nice! I remember someone mentioning in a live stream that you need to get and Australian loco.
Nice locomotive and unboxing SMT!
An Aussie here: a family from Chicago sent me Pop Tarts private mail 20 years ago. They were nice. So I sent back some Cherry Ripes. The family liked them so much, they wanted more so I sent another lot.
Sorry I’m 3 years late but the back radiator fans are supposed to stick out that far idk why but that’s how they made the locomotive in real life and the model
AC6000😍😍😍
The BHP iron oar railroad operates in western Australia and south Australia and they use inherited locomotives from america such as the AC 6000 and they also use a sd40-2 and a GE dash 9 and a few other locomotives.
According to research (ain't the internet wonderful?), BHP Iron Ore 6071 is a GE AC6000 loco (6000 horsepower), and the model is imported by Broadway Limited. It's available in both HO and N scale.
How generous! Make sure you send a box of Pop Tarts to your friend down under!
Looks to be a really nice engine.
That was a subtle hint to send him some pop tarts back
THATS VERY SICK
Now what you need is a LONG LINE of ore cars!!!!
Finally an Aussie locomotive!!! Great loco👍
The model is of the one my uncle used to drive here in australia i love your videos and I'd love you to do more australian rail stuff your fan doohan
That’s one neat engine.
Dam that a beautiful model engines
we have ads for the company operating this loco it is owned by bhp and bhp mines lots of iron and gold and copper and brass and many more so amazing that i can relate to these locos since im here
Omg that looks awesome as the title says. Wish I had that pretty cool
You can get pop tarts at places like Candy Station. Why you'd want to however, is beyond me!
Wow lucky you getting another Bli locomotive and you only have 2 OF then but Damn thats cool
Had the pleasure of driving them before being withdrawn. Awesome locos indeed. Sadly all were scrapped a few years ago.
We do have pop tarts in Australia as of 2020 although they were not available between 2005 and 2014.
AWSOME!
Why is Australia so wholesome?
From myself here in Melbourne, Australia, the colour scheme of the locomotive is that of one of our country's biggest mining companies, BHP. BHP, shortened from Broken Hill Proprietary, has interests in western NSW, on top of major mine sites in the Pilbara Region of northern Western Australia. The trains these locomotives haul are 3 - 4 kilometres long, and fully loaded with iron ore, weigh up to 40 000 tonnes. For The Record, the Record for the World's Longest and Heaviest Train is held by one of Australia's Mining Companies, and was hauled by locomotives in the Pilbara Region of northern Western Australia. The train was 10 kilometres long, weighed 100 000 tonnes and required 9, 6000 hp, GE - engined Diesel locomotives.
the plow is the plow from awvr 777
America exports alot of locomotives overseas, its a AC6000 (like you said) built for the Australian market. The locomotive in real-life probably has wider axles, & stricter safety standards. Also the AC6000 also sees or use to see action in the US, CSX, & UP use to operate them alot.
It won't have wider axles as where it runs is built to standard gauge but thank's to the overall size, it can't run anywhere else in Australia. It'd hit too many bridges and other trackside things.
Ive heard broadway limited are VERY expensive, about $200 or $300 USD per loco
We can get pop tarts here in Australia from most supermarkets
Maybe they're not around in the region of the country they're in?
@@SMTMainline that's possible mate
Nice
I wonder what the mail workers think of how many packages you get
The people there are starting to recognize me, lol.
@@SMTMainline hey smt do you know how to replace a Tyco manta locomotive with a regular can motor
Do you think they'd really care?
Some Australian lines are operated remotely from an office, due to the rather remote area they operate in with rather hot weather.
awesome railway.
the livery you wouldn't see outside of australia it was owned BHP iron works hence BHP Iron ore on the side
I have two of the Broadway limited GE AC6000 Australian iron ore engines but they both have sound. I’m surprised this one doesn’t.
The ac6000 is also used by many North American railroads. It’s actually an American model but modified for use in Australia.
Very Cool!
That is really cool
very nice engine
As the saying goes good things come to those who waite
Awesome!
The 1st thing I noticed about this GE, were the two exhaust stacks, as opposed to the big single diesel stack seen on the other iterations of GE diesels.
Now he needs a bunch of stubby ore cars to tow behind it.
Bhp was a Iron ore company in Australia.
We have pop tarts in Australia but only chocolate ones
I wonder if the person who sent that is aware of that or if they are just looking for another flavor.
SMT Mainline possibly but lolly shops have like a hundred flavours and at our grocery places there kinda hard to find
Now I’m jealous
SMT those Broadway limited trains will last a long time I have 2 of their Paragon 2 sound products The first one I've had since late 2014 and the second one I've had since 2016. They are very reliable, have very realistic sounds, detailed Very well and can haul loads past 10 cars. I gladly own a Broadway limited SD40-2 BNSF modern paint scheme and a Ac6000 low ditch light setup like yours only it has the UP paint scheme from the 90s as it only says on the side Union Pacific instead of the American flag. Please note: if you get one with sound the best system I have used is the MRC prodigy Wireless system. That one should also be Both DC and DCC equipped as mine is like that. Or if you use DC you will only get engine sounds. Greetings from California!
Awesome, wow, I love the color scheme. Looks like someone already beat me to the in depth analysis on it though. Can you do a double header with the BNSF Locomotive?
I did more in depth view of the loco than the first shot but I didn't do much of an in depth analysis ... lol. I think the community would still be more than happy to see one of you did one.
@@SMTMainline BlacknRed81 already covered everything though, I'd just be regurgitating his information
Mt newman is in western Australia thes locomotives pull long and heavy iron orr trains from the mine lucky boy
Your like a kid opening up his 1st Xmas pressy
