- I was sent these vintage model trains from a guy named Adam. They belonged to his grandfather and apparently haven't been run in over 50 so it was going to be interesting to see if they would start after all that time. It was incredibly generous to send these and I'd like to give Adam a big thanks for it!

SMT you are so lucky to be able to get model trains like that in the mail. There are some great people out there. Keep up the great videos 👍👏
Absolutely, it's a very generous community!
You have a really nice miniature model landscape and town for the trains. 🚂🚃🚄🚅🚆🚇🚈🚉
Love the blue comet variation with blue wheels. Looks to be in good shape too
It's a nice looking model and it doesn't seem to have many "miles" on it.

If anyone can make 'em run, it's you! And save that cardboard box, both of them... LIONEL-great box... You got some beautiful locomotives. I look forward to watching you work on them.
And that book! Holy cow! That's worth some major dollars... it's a true treasure to have and so nice that boy had you in mind since you're in Quebec... real treasures, you're a fortunate guy! John Kamloops, BC

There's a PRR 2-10-0 "Decapod" steam locomotive on display in Hamburg, NY. :D
Lovley load of passenger cars they will look great on your layout nice unboxing.
And I hate to be a pain, but if it were me...I would replace the bulbs in the passenger sets with LED's. And Adam...GREAT SEND!!!!
Thanks
The diecast locomotive you opened first is a Pennsylvania Railroad I1SA Decapod.
Wow that is a really long time!!
Thats a great haul! Lots of generous people out there!
A little suggestion. Also add a bit of lubrication oil as well and let it sink in. That worked for me.
The 2-10-0 decapod was the last one I would expect to turn over. Also I think that 2-10-0 might be from bowser or a maker like that.
Nice trains and the pasanger coath I have see in a train store.
David, You no Longer have the Parcel Record. How Do you Feel?
I have the very same 4-6-2 locomotive, only in black with the Union Pacific tender. They do run nice when they run.
I had a Tyco Royal Blue set, and I didn’t remember the locomotive was THAT bright! Also had the Santa Fe streamlined set you mention, which Tyco called Super Chief, but it should have been El Capitan. Coaches, no sleepers! LOL
I enjoy watching you bring this equipment back to life. You inspire my less intense maintenance.
SMT quote of the year "befloor"
He said before at beginning and then befloor oh yeah I hear it plus the picture lol at 3:45
However it won't be the quote of the year soon! 2021 is in only 2 days.

Okay...it's too early on a Sunday morning for me to be this weird.
B&O had GP9TT that were used for local commuter runs. The TT (torpedo tube)was the designator for air tanks that were moved atop the roof where the dynamic brk blister was and the fuel tank was expanded in size for extended running distance.
Stan - The large tank may be two tanks; one for water & one for fuel. The water would be used by the steam generator to provide heating for the commuter cars. Many railroads had those GP9TT for both freight & passenger operation.
On this channel, it feels like it's Christmas again and again. 🎅🤶🎄🌲😁
Very nice set can't wait to see the rebuild
I can't believe that! A Pennsylvania Railroad I10sa with a long haul tender.
The only problem is that the number is incorrect. PRR 4936 was actually a GG1.

I had that same B&O 4-6-2 Pacific steam engine when I was a young boy, long ago!
Wow!!! I had that same Tyco box. The loco is a Tyco Mantua..I have the same one . That brings back a lot of memories. Thanks.
I know I'm late to this one, that PRR Decapod has a special place in my heart. My Dad gave me it to me when I was way too young and I wrecked it. Then later in life I realized Bowser kits existed. Bought the PRR Pacific as a test to see how it would come out. Built it and it was great! Went back to buy the Decapod and the company discontinued the steam engine line. Anyway he was happy to see the finished Pacific which was cool.
Yay a B&O steamer. Nice haul! Awesome video SMT!
SMT, you acquired a nice mid 50-60- Bowser Pennsylvania Railroad 2-10-0 “Decapod” kit, I thought it was a Bowser kit, but needed clarification of the origin of the locomotive
Hope to see it be restored in a video in the near future
Funny..just to day I was looking at that same Penney 2-10-0. It's a very very old tyco, they run normally very well ( I own one) that B&I is cool too with that passenger..set
sorry about bad spelling i was very tired when this got posted
Mantua set from late 50s early 60s i had one dack then,,,nice set
The first Pennsylvania locomotive was made by Penn Line. Penn Line made models of almost all of the Pennsylvania Railroad's steam locomotives and yours is a model of a class I1s 2-10-0 (just to clarify as they look the same typed, it's an I as in the word igloo, not a L as those were the PRR's 2-8-2s). They came in RTR and kit form and were made between the 1950s and early 1960s, after that Penn Line went out of business and the line was picked up by Bowser who kept it going until they stopped production of steam locomotive kits in about the year 2008. Fun video by the way!
I have that Baltimore and Ohio Pacific. It doesn't run and I was going to fix it up but I decided to convert to N scale. I was actually pretty tempted to send it to you but technically it isn't mine, cool to see you got one though!
I have some trains that belonged to my dad that havent been run in over 40 years. I recently tested them and they surprisingly worked. Though they didnt work too well
I just got that Pennslyvania Railroad T1 2-10-0 Decapod just a couple of days ago including with that long distance tender with the "Dog House" on top!
There is a story with the model companies that made that loco. The originals like the one I got were made by Penn Line. However, Penn Line went out of business in 1963 after only 16 years in business. The dies and tooling where aquired by Bowser. You can tell the difference by looking at the end of the tender. Just above the coupler and "behind" the ladder if you see "Penn Line" then it was obviously made by Penn Line in 1963 or prior. If it is blank then you have the Bowser version. Another way you can tell is if it says "Penn Line" under the tender trucks above the screws.
Also if it has a working headlight it is likely the Bowser version, if it has a jewel it is likeky to be an old Penn Line. One more difference: If you see the wire to the tender in the cab going through a hole in the bulkhead its a Penn Line. If the wire goes under the cab and the hole is pluged up then it is probably the Bowser version. It looks like you got the Penn Line version since the wire seems to go through the bulkhead and has a cavity for the headlight where the reflector jewel suppose to go.
I have the Penn Line version with the jewel headlight and the company name on the tender andctrucks.
Regardless, the one you have is in decent shape (and it looks older the one I got, probably from the early 1950s) but it is missing two large air tank cylinders above the pilot (it is also missing the pilot steps).
www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/ho-bowser-prr-decapod-10-steam-engine-1789658172
You could probably get a replacement pilot and air tanks either through Ebay or from Bowser directly (albeit they are discontinuing their steam locomotive models so they may not have it anymore😕).
Mine worked smoothly when I got it but I still disassembled it and cleaned and lubed it. It runs great! On yours YOU REALLY NEED TO CLEAN THE WHEELS! They are not only dirty but some of the drivers look like they have some corrosion on the threads!
I recommend this elite194 video on how to refurbish a Tyco Silver Streak C-430; not to show you how to do it since you've done it a million times before, but he does it in a way that he could install a DCC Decoader inside if you wanted to in the future. Among other things he was able to get the stall current draw of the motor below 1 amp making it safe for DCC; a Tyco Pancake motor! He also has a few tips on preserving traction tires and how to make the body come on and off easier without the death struggle he had at the start of the video!😂 He also shows a little on installing an LED headlight and how use stock blank circut boards to make wiring neater:
czcams.com/video/w_wftHnlIwU/video.html
That set is from the early / mid 1960's. The tenders have brass wheels that pick up electricity. They need to thoroughly cleaned.
Be glad to see you get them running, But I think that young man is going to regret giving them away one day.
Nice video and stunning 🥰👍
The 2-10-0 looks like a Russian Decapod . What a haul......
Steam engine is a Penn Line PRR 2-10-0 Decapod with long haul tender. Bowser may have the missing parts yet, they produced it after Penn Line quit.
Flat car is early (1950s) Rivarossi, check for a Lionel logo on it as they made Lionel HO in 1956 and that car was one offered as a Lionel.
B&O set in the box is worth some money all by itself. The 0-4-0 was not included, someone added it. The Penn Line engine's worth a decent amount too. Probably $300 worth of trains there.
Like too see the repairs of these on video-👍👍🤗😎
Can you look at some Con Cor N scale train sets
Tyco was the ready to run version of the Mantua Kits.
Awesome video 🚂👍happy New Year to you & to everyone who sees this comment 🎆
I had that set. It's a Tyco "Royal Blue" passenger train set. The 0-4-0 is a classic Tyco switcher. I got equipment exactly like this as 10 year old in 1962.
Will they run
*Let’s find out*
A Blue comet! Nice! Ever read the book by the same name?
There could be anything in there!
SMT mainline I just got a Kato CN es44ac and it runs nice no problems running as well
I have a tyco 4-6-2 and some old tyco cars maybe around 30 years and not too long ago, I was running a 4-6-2 and somehow, it stopped. I’ll fix it sometime and the B&O 4-6-2 is really nice.
SMT, like I said, you are a lucky guy in the hobby! 🙂
I finally got the SEPTA ACS 64
It really says something about the quality of these old trains from Tyco and Mantua when you can store them for 50 years, tune them up and run them again! You’re lucky to have such a nice collection of classic model trains that you might possibly be able to share and pass on to your children someday. Imagine what it means for them to have 100 year old model trains!
Oh, and the Santa Fe train set was the "El Capitan". If it's like the one I had, it came with an F-7 in the Santa Fe "war bonnet" paint scheme.
Next: Someone sent me a actual train!
Pennsylvania RR 2-10-0 Decapod Freight engine! Ran until 1957-58!
I know you were excited over the trains, and rightfully so, but be gentle on those boxes. They weren’t pristine but still could add value. Even the Lionel box could be worth something to the right collector. Displaying the Tyco train set in the original box would distinguish you from those who just have the train by itself.
Finally got my hands on a Canadian Pacific. Didn't lose bid this time. It's a get gp-35 spectrum. It's the wait that kills lol. Be-a-u-ti-ful b&o. Been working on getting some steamers in color. Great video, H. Can't wait to see work vid.
Hey I'm from traverse city! Nice to see traverse city represented on SMT Mainline.
Hey SMT,
I have a little surprise for you that’s ready to ship to you. The only thing I need is the address and your all set. Also, I am giving this train to you for free for two reasons.
1: I never really cared about this train.
2: It has a very annoying problem with the motor. (You’ll see when it arrives.)
Have a great day!
Your number 1 fan

3:45 i think thats a penn line prr i1sa
Wow thats AWESOME to see a mint condition mantua 4-6-2. The 2-10-0 is rare. The metal tender is from at least 1950s I have 2 tenders that say Baltimore and Ohio cast metal from 1950s . careful with the tender link they some type of felt plastic get brittle over years.
I have the Mantua 4-6-2 B&O but on mine the drivers are unpainted? Also the tender trucks aren’t painted either. Wonder if that means mine is older? Haha NICE LOT OF STUFF!!!!
That Pennsylvania locomotive is made by boswer
Could be. The front wheels to me look like tyco but maybe they just used the same material.
I think you are right, my Dad gave me one as a child and I wrecked it. Was so pissed when I realized how cool it was when I was into it. I found the kits on line about 15 years ago and built the Pacific with the same boiler. I didnt get the Decapod kit in time. They were discontinued unfortunately.
@@greg0063 thank you do you still have the locomotive bowser
@@jamessnyder3896 I have both yes.
@@greg0063 thats cool i have a pennsy t1 made by bowser
The 2-10-0 is a bowser or penn line maybe the boiler looks like a k4 boiler from bowser or penn line maybe.
My grandparents live in Traverse City, Michigan and told me all about trains in the City.
What a gift! Please give that 50-year-old train a gift, a can of 3 in One oil. What more could one ask for? Oh, to win the lottery. Final score: SMT 0 Old Age 3.
It appears to to be a Pennsylvania RR I1s Decapod. A Baltimore and Ohio USRA Heavy Pacific. The tyco Mikes and Pacifics were probably their best locomotives. The little 0-4-0 Shifter was popular but likes to stop on insulated frogs. Are these the metal passenger cars? I worked for a toy store when this train set was popular, and I think it was $50 or less, The lowest priced sets were about $20, but minimum wage here was $1.50 to 1.65 per hour fifty years ago, so the passenger set would have been a weeks take home pay for many.
Yes! Another video!
That’s a nice Prr I-1
That's something special!! Very cool gift, I cant wait to see those engines run, especially the blue one.
Hey Harrison, I would like to tell you I saw Amtrak’s 157 heritage unit!!!!! It’s in my video if u wanna see it 😎✌🏼
I was going to say that the locomotives look in good shape but on the inside
Smt the blue steam locomotive the wire needs to be attached to the tender or it won’t run Ik this bc I got the same train for Christmas but it’s black and it’s Union Pacific 4-6-2 up
The black PRR engine is an original Penn Line I1
I like your videos. I also used a Santa Fe engine , a coach made in France and a goods wagon. I ran but I sold it of. HO scale.
I can’t believe you got some via rail passenger cars
I haven't seen this type of locomotive *befloor*
Gee...maybe we should think about that befloor it happens to someone else???
I have "00" Triang, "H0" Lima (Italian) Graham Farish "N" gauge loco's and rolling stock that I dug out of the attic and looked at for the first time in forty years. The time has come to part company with them. They'd be better off running on a layout somewhere than gathering dust in my attic.
That 2-10-0 is a Bower locomotive because I have a bower K4 and they look very similar
Very nice locomotives, can't wait to see them run. I have a #99, it runs great.
Big my train set that I got for Christmas and it has 13 styrofoam boxes with a possibility of it being rare
Nice
I got an ancient Piko set for Xmas lol If i give the loco a push it will run, it didnt run at all until I sprayed the inside of the motor with Spray lube
The engine is a 2-10-0 Decapod and the rolling stock you have is a flatcar.
The 2-10-0 is a Bowser product. Bowser made several PRR steam locomotive kits.
I've seen a few decently pricey
Awesome, my aunt gave me an old varney train set yesterday
Been here since 1k I just thought I'd say that
nice vid!
Smt love the videos keep up the good work
Fun fact Lionel owns America flyer
Did you repair them?
😮😊👍I believe the PA 2-10-0 is referred to as a “Texas” class
Actually 2-10-0 is a decapod 2-10-4 is the Texas
Bewhere of zink pest with those locomotives, I have a Tyco Mantua 2-6-6-2 T and it wouldn't run till I re drilled the cylinders because they where caked with zink.
Matell should make trains. They acquired tyco in the 90s so id assume they have tyco's tooling for them.
Technically Mattel did in the 70s with a " futuristic " passenger and freight train that ran on a Hot Wheels type track.
Only had the passenger set and seem to recall it having a Super Train feel to it design wise.
Mattel Sizzler Hotline set from 1971.
This is the set I had.

@@garysprandel1817 thats cool
I would be awesome if they did although I'm doubtful it's a market they would be interested in.
Only in passing, ~10 min in, the 2-10-0 is probably a Bowser model. Penn RR "I-1" Decapod, used in long haul freight service. They have many service points, as in more than 10. I had a friend built one while at sea, in ~'69 I think, which is 50 years now. . . He had modified the drawbar so the tender would run close coupled until a curve required wider coupling. I never cared for the PRR "Belpaire" firebox, I have a Frisco "Russian", much smaller and smaller tender. Since I am in the deep south, PRR stuff doesn't interest me that much.
