What is Assembly Lube?

  • When building or modifying an engine, assembly lube plays a big role in protecting parts from wear at start up.
Assembly lube is a high-viscosity oil with tackifiers (or a grease) that must remain in place no matter how long it takes to finish your engine, protect against wear at startup and get out of the motor oil’s way once the engine is running.
AMSOIL Assembly Lube excels in all three areas. Watch this video to learn more.

Hi Amsoil, Because I use Amsoil in all my engines I have no use for assembly lube at the present time. Is there any chance you will put your 100% Synthetic Multi-Purpose Grease
(GLCCR-EA) in a convenient little squeeze tube like that? 🤔

Amsoil can you drain out a factory fill and use Break-in oil for better initial wear characteristics than the factory fill which in most cases already contains friction modifiers like a regular shelf oil?

I wouldn't do it, there would be nothing be gained and you risk causing a problem. The engine comes filled with a break in oil designed specifically for the tolerances and specific metallurgy that particular engine is made with and the very high zinc in other break in oils could damage the catalytic converter. You would be better off running the factory break in oil for 500-1K miles or so and then doing the first few oil changes early with the recommended oil to flush out the wear particles.

@@averyalexander2303 Some manufacturers give you break in oil and it's typically for plasma coated cylinders not for cross-hatched iron ones. These ones are usually factory filled with standard oil you'd get on a normal oil change with exception of Honda and Volkswagen. I know this from checked with these manufacturers. So my question still stands to Amsoil. As for damaging the coverter this wouldn't happen running high ZDDP oil during one fill (break-in period) but rather over the life of an engine as it consumes some oil and it poisons the converter slowly, so even a high ZDDP oil will not poison the converter in a short period of time while breaking in the engine.

Converter will not be damaged during break in period for 1k miles as most manufacturers recommend

Can I use the assembly lub in piston ring or liner? Tnx
