Backpacking Washington - Rampart Lakes, Alta Mountain and Lila Lakes

- It's early summer here in the Central Cascades and Jen and I are setting out on our first backpacking adventure of the season. We are starting out at the Rachel Lake trailhead and will be spending two nights at Rampart Lakes. During our time up there we hope to summit Alta Mountain and explore Lila lakes.
The regular viewers will notice something different about this video. The second day there is no narration. I was curious to see what it would be like to put together a video where the focus is on the outdoors and not us. Don't worry, this isn't going to be a new trend. But let us know what you think about it in the comments!

Agreed! I live in WA and though I'm not advanced at backpacking like you all, I really enjoy watching the videos, and it gets me excited for the easier hikes/photography that I do

Congratulations Nick. You took one of the most beautiful shots ever since I watch you guys. You're really close to take your subscribers literally with you on the trails. Wow, that was an amazing job! Those last minutes without any words were delicately deep to me. The wind touching Rachel lake, the flowers on Alta... You mentioned that you had done Rampart Lakes, I've been looking forward to the Video. Nicely shot. I'm good with comentary, but I like the mic open and hearing the water and wind as well. Just like I'm there, except I don't have to deal with the bugs!
Oh man, that was some pretty bad bug action. Probably the most amount of mosquitos I've ever killed in a weekend.

Been over 20 years since I been up there. I remember it was good. From what I saw now, better than I remember. Don't recall so many water crossings though. You hit it at a great time, except for the bugs. Some places just got bugs. Keep the vids up. I love 'em!

Absolutely gorgeous. You hit this at exactly the right time. I experienced similar levels of bugs and snow when I was there years ago.

I did Lila Lake back in July as well and absolutely loved it up there. I only did one night though. And the bugs at that time where relentless. Still, it was a great way to kick off my first backpacking trip in the US!
I learned my lesson this time. Brought along bug spray the rest of the season, but didn't need it as bad as I needed it at Rampart.

Am I the only one who couldn't find this trail ?? I parked and walked all over couldn't find the trail y'all took. I found a trail but it was closed as in a big bar was blocking the entrance. I hopped over it anyway and tried to keep trucking but I could tell the the trail I was on was obvs not the right one even though it was the only entrance I saw. This trail was wide and looked like the way but it was not maintained and fallen trees and boulders littered the way so I turned around and as I was leaving saw a bear lol so I booked it back to the car after that. But I wanna try again one day but for the life of me have no idea how yall got to the actual trail??

I think one thing that sets you apart from the other hiking videos on CZcams is that you actually have an intelligent commentary. Lots of video have crap music playing. Personally I prefer you guys both talking.
Was the jump across the water at 3:15 literally the only way across? Looked sketchy
Do you carry bear mace or anything like that for camping?
What's the food storage situation up there? Haven't yet camped in the PNW but am planning a trip to camp here. Thanks!
This was published in November but given snow and stream levels, I take it you recorded it earlier in the year. Is that right? My guess is July or late June.
What attachment do you use to hold your camera on your sternum strap? I'm trying to find a way to properly hold my camera while hiking.
That is the Peak Design Capture Pro Clip. They are on V3 now. I have V1 and V2 and it gets better each time. Highly recommended.
