    Hello friends!
    Today, I'm delighted to share with you the final reveal and comparison of "A Mermaid's Bath" from Jaded Gem Shop and artist Toshia San. This has been a bigger undertaking of a comparison project! Over the past couple months, I’ve been working on and comparing the two different rendering styles that Jaded Gem Shop now offers. The first style is the "Classic/Hybrid" style, which has more computer-charting and tends to be more confetti-heavy and softer in how it turns out. The second style is the "Pixel/Hand-Charted" style, which has been done by hand, in-house, and will have more color blocking and a cleaner, crisper rendering.
    I've been working on "A Mermaid's Bath" by Toshia San for this comparison. Both have square drills, and while one is slightly smaller than the other, I think these kits will still illustrate the differences in the rendering pretty well! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on today’s update.
    I'll have some additional reviews and unboxings for you to take a look at below, if you're curious to see more, but keep in mind that up until this series, all kits that have been unboxed or completed have the original hybrid charting style to them.

    I used to think that I preferred rendering styles with a lot of confetti, but recently, I feel myself drawn to pixel-charted styles. Here, the pixel-charted is definitely my favorite! Thanks for the comparison.

    I love the way the lighting through the window is done through the hybrid canvas but I love the crispness of the pixel charted canvas. It’s hard to choose a favorite!

    This is definitely an interesting commentary on what individuals prefer to work on. Thank you for doing the hard work here, Katie. I absolutely love confetti, and vastly prefer the original hybrid charting on this piece over the pixel charted version. It turned out much closer to the original artwork. The render on her face in the pixel charted version skews more anime character over realistic human face, and the one in the hybrid charting just looks beautifully soft and realistic to me. So it’s interesting to see how people feel, since art is totally subjective and up to the observer what speaks to them the most. ❤ For me I will go for pixel charting for more clean line artwork and the hybrid version for things like old masters, fantasy and watercolor artwork. ❤

    Love love that there is an option for these different styles! I hope it brings Jade's shop the attention she truly deserves, her kit quality is top notch in my experience ❤
    I personally come to Jade for the hybrid style - I really love the softness, as a water color artist myself 🥰
    On the topic of people being curious for a middle ground: sure, it'd be interesting. But ultimately you as the consumer need to go find a shop whose style and quality you like, and not expect shops to adapt to your wants 😊 I think of the culture around tattooing and the long searches people go on to find a tattoo artist whose style they like.

    I definitely like the pixel chartered one better I like the finer lines and the crisp Ness of the painting I utterly enjoyed this side-by-side comparison. I think it was amazing. I watched your other ones and they are some of my favorite videos. Thank you for making this.

    I'm definitely in the pixel charting camp! I love the clean lines. With Hannah Lynn starting to pop up in various shops, I'd love to see some comparisons of the various shops. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a comparison of the same kit, but I want to see how the different shops compare with one another.

    I think I'd most enjoy working on the pixel charted. But, if I were displaying the final product, I think I'd actually rather look at the hybrid version. So I'm with you--so glad we have the options!!

    I am going to get really corny here but thank you so much for all you do! I love these comparisons! I have bought some JGS pieces before and had decided they weren't for me. Now seeing the new versions, I may reconsider! Also, you have brought some wonderful books into my life and now I have ventured into watching "Supernatural" for the 1st time. I am loving it! I never was interested as I don't have an affinity for the actors, but OMG. I am enjoying it so much and have been watching while I diamond paint! You have really brought more joy to my life.

    😮 They both turned out beautiful! I sure love Jaded Gem Shop canvases. My preference for this kit would be the pixel charted version. Like you mentioned, I believe there is a place for both renderings. Can’t wait to see what is in store next! I love how you did this video and showed up close and viewing distances.

  • @mariaturner3600
    @mariaturner3600 Před 19 dny

    I like that they both have hand charting to them. If you don’t have to worry about time crunching to finish, the confetti will definitely be the more detailed and satisfying version in the exact same size in the end. If the kits were single placed, the time spent would be much closer on each kit. And of course, Diamond painting viewing distance is the final measure. Thanks for showing that. I would love to see that larger size of the one on the right version too. It’s hard for me to choose because I like some of each one. In the end it is personal preference.

  • @AllyJNova
    @AllyJNova Před 20 dny

    Both so beautiful - but I’ve been waiting to see the finishes before I bought and I’m going to go with the hybrid version in the larger size. There are certain things that, in my opinion, are closer to the original art…I don’t mind confetti at all…and the larger size will hopefully fine tune some of the details. Thanks for doing this Katie!! Loved all of it.

  • @lesliediamondpaints

    I definitely prefer the pixel charted canvas much more. I agree with you that they are more enjoyable to complete. I still think there’s room for both though. Can’t wait to see what else Comes out from the shop.

  • @SparkleKnits
    @SparkleKnits Před 10 dny

    I personally like the hybrid painting. I love DAC’s hand rendering which is definitely more pixelated, but I love shops like Jade’s because it’s a different style. It’s great that her shop is starting to offer an option for both. That just might revolutionize how other shops start choosing to chart their own charts and competition keeps things fresh. I love it.

  • @DorothyGale242

    I absolutely love this series. It really helped me to understand exactly what pixelated is. During this video it really helped me when you placed each piece on top of the other! It was a WOW moment. It was like I had taken my glasses off and was viewing the pieces without visible assistance. I love the pixel on best. For me the pros out weighted the cons on that one. Thank you again for an awesome comparison.

  • @robinpennington5758

    Thank you for sharing and doing this comparison, Katie. They both turned out beautiful, especially when you look from a true viewing distance. I still, personally prefer the hand charted version but if it were not available, I would still do the other version. Hope you have/had a great 4th of July!

    @Robin-gf6qw Před 19 dny

    This has been fascinating to watch. I prefer the pixel charted version but really like various areas rendered on the hybrid chart. However, I would be more likely to buy the pixel version as there is less confetti.

  • @Poodlepaws44
    @Poodlepaws44 Před 19 dny

    Thank you so much for doing this. This is really helpful. Having worked on a few hybrid charted kits from JGS and others now, I'm definitely finding I prefer Pixel charted kits but I appreciate that you included and example of where the hybrid/computer charted look might be preferable and I agree. The softer rendering is really beautiful for certain artists and artworks where crisp, clear lines are maybe a bit too stark compared to the original.

    The pixel charted is amazing. Some may love the other and that’s fine. I will be looking for pixel canvases that call my name. Thanks for doing both. I know small shops have to be cost efficient and I’m willing to keep looking. I hope Jade does well.

  • @taliev87
    @taliev87 Před 17 dny

    I prefer the pixel charted version personally, but I also feel that there is a place for both rendering styles. I completely agree that it's dependent on personal preference and the style of the original artwork. I feel like JGS spoils us because of all of the customisation options that they offer. Adding in the option for pixel charting has taken that to a whole new level of bougie and I am here for it!

    Overall I still greatly prefer the pixel version - but it is a shame that the floating stars, (next to the curtains), which were in the original artwork, got lost from the pixel version - which doesn’t make sense as it was hand finished. Thanks so much for showing the original artwork at the same size for comparison too. Some of the softer features I did prefer in the hybrid version, such as the candles, and the colours of the window features. Loved the special drills, including the metallics. Loved the whole comparison series - thank you so much. 😻🌼

    I love the softness of the hybrid of this piece but I would likely select the pixel in most cases. I still think it depends on the piece content as to what would be the best selection, softer vs sharp, if that makes sense. I agree that the larger size in the hybrid of this particular piece would likely be better. Thank you for this comparison and will be very helpful in making my selections.

    Gosh, I wish I would have watched this video before I placed an order. I just placed an order for 4 DP's from JGS and kinda wish I could get at least one of them pixel charted. Darn... oh well, live and learn. Thanks for this video, it's very informative and helps out those of us who are trying different shops so we know what to look for. I love the level of details in the pixel charted ... But I LOVE the light in the hybrid. The pixel charted is beautiful, but while it defines every little object/subject better, it also looks a bit flat. The other one has light coming in, giving a softer atmosphere. I'd surely go for the hybrid, personally. It also looks better (to my eyes, ofc) from far away. While the pixel charted I only really love when looking at it from upclose.

I have a question for you, on kits with the fairy dust and AB drills, I have had trouble with the pink wax picking them up and also taking off the glitter. Is. it better to use the putty?
