Slightly different to my regular uploads, but I had to share the experience with you guys! I was approached by a professional pyrotechnic company, here on CZcams on the basis of my amateur work in my hobby of pyrotechnics! Ofcourse i jumped at the opportunity (as im sure everyone else of you would!), and was invited along to a display for a crowd of thousands attending the Stratford (UK) river festival 2011 on the 2nd of July, to help rig and fire the display.
It was an incredible experience, handling and rigging some meaty pyro, and then seeing the results of your labour at the firing line on ground zero, when the show kicked off!
So when i had a spare moment, i whipped the camera out to follow some of the key moments in the day, to put a video together!
The actual display starts later into the video, where i set my camera up on a tripod to record the action at ground zero, and then about 30 seconds in, a second camera that was within the audience shows its footage!
This is just an example of the kind of thing you can get involved in, if you stick at what you love! keep up the good work guys, and look forward to hearing from you.
Massive thanks to Dan and Gaz of ExtraFX firewroks for this opportunity

Fantastic video,Ed!,i was once allowed to help fire a big display just by chatting to the operators,they knew how interested i was and how much i knew so they let me fire the 4 and 5 inch shells by the old method with a portfire,i know exactly what you mean about the vibrations and noise that close up!,pleased to see they offered you a job so best of luck with it!,look forward to seeing more!
That was fantastic! you lucky thing getting a chance to be there in the thick of it and you must have learned a lot thanks for that nice one
Fan-bloody-tastic, I like the two camera setup. I helped fire the Cambridge display for a few years back in the early 90s. I still remember the black tarry mess left on my hands and clothes after clearing up all the spent pyro. Still, great fun!
Pretty cool video, I liked the split screen. Thanks for sharing
This is so freaking cool. I've always wondered what behind the scenes looked. my stepdad was a firefighter who sometimes stood standby by the launch sites and he said it was basically just tubes like this but I always wondered more
@captainuk001
cheers Cap'n :)
massively lucky to have go involved, and the show itself was awesome from we were at the firing line. The camera that was in the audience was a bit poor, so i'll get some actual footage of the display in the air from ground zero next time!
Yeah, learned loads! although its suprising how much of the knowledge used for our amateur side of things still applied here!
good to hear from you buddy
hope youre well
Great video mate, glad you enjoyed the day :)
Wow that must've been an awesome day :D .. Really nice show too, the cake with the whistles was sooo loud, that really caught my attention. (:
Cheers Chay, it was a proper fun day!
brilliant! yeah i find you end up having black snot for the next couple of weeks after a display as well!
good to hear from you bud, hope youre well
haha i've been waiting for any move from you =) i mean you were inactive about 3 (maybe more months)
glad to see you back!
Awesome video.
Love this song
Very nice... The split-screen particularly well. ^.^
It depends on what you are fusing, but for passing fire between uncoated visco fuses, zip ties work better because they press the fuses together more forcefully.
Amazing fireworks 👍👍👍
looks like a good experience man!
@ExtremePeppers
thanks a lot buddy
glad you enjoyed the show!
Nice ! congratulations, I would have liked it if the camera looking at the guns was an insert on the lower right of full screen of the show but anyway.
nice video in a few years time im of to use for 3 weeks 1 week then the 2nd bonfire nigt then the 3rd and i will hopefully be having a huge fireworks display i soo cant wait lol
looked like fun. did you have to wear one of those jump suite things haha.
@clarity2la
yeah its been a while! The only reason being is that ive moved house, and my workshop is still at the old house, waiting to be transported with all my gear!
it is a work in progress, but its taking longer than expected!
regular service will resume sooooon!
good to hear from you matey
@xBangergoosEx
It was brilliant! got more displays coming. cant wait!
Is this exactly how the "governmental" fireworks look and work??? I gotta know - never saw one at the launch "pad".
Or are those even more serious and are launched from cannons?
Superb!
Nice I, bet every pyro would benefit from a trip like that.
Hope its going well
Sam
@shusune
cheers mate!
yeah my first project using Sony Vegas Pro! love it!
My OCD sky rocketed when I saw the yellow case full of wires.
Joshua Comeau I see what you did there
@pyr0ph1L
it was an amazing day! took so much away from the whole experience :)
yeah, the display itself was fantastic, some really meaty stuff on the firing line, coupled with fact that we were about 15m away from ground zero! every pop and bang resonated through your body....felt like i was out in Afghanistan! :P
Awesome
That is so cool! How much does it cost to put on a show like this? If I didn't have a license is there anything I could do to to help out at a show someone is putting on? I would enjoy simply operating the switchboard if nothing else. :-) Is getting a license basically like getting a college degree or is it not as intensive? I have wanted to do this kind of stuff for a while.
percaso avete fatto fuochi d'artificio ad altamura ?
What about a finale???
who else is on a random video streak??
About a $15k show must be in a small town!
@petermackett37
cheers Pete,
brilliant, theres nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing that an audience of thousands is watching your every move! although its pitch black, it feels like theres a massive spot light on you! its awesome!
haha, yeah, id love to give hand firing a go, im sure the only way to replicate the adrenaline rush from that is to run around in a minefield!
thanks mate, much appreciated
great to hear from you
i liked what the heavy artillery was doing .
@neonpike
love that saying! Pyrotechnics IS an art form :)
we were that close to ground zero, we could taste the smoke!
@alibabba2
cheers buddy, im a lucky guy!
funny you should say that....ive been offered a job with the company! so let the games begin! :)
all the best mate
@mondays89
This is a £2000 display, which includes the fireworks themselves, transport, rigging fees etc.
Ofcourse you can! All you need to do is contact a firing company, and see if you can come down with them on a display. They will assess whether you are a valuable asset to them, and take it from there. You dont need any qualifications as such to rig, the licensing comes in when you start purchasing and transporting the pyro yourself.
remember you dont get if you dont ask!
good luck
Is there any way like a regular person like myself who likes to entertain people can get hands on the big fireworks like these can u plz let me know
Marcus Salinas you can however you are required to hold a proper license and most fireworks of this size are illegal in vast amounts of states for civilian use. Texas and some states like Indiana are exceptions.
You have to have a pyrotech license to get your hands on any shells let alone get any work!
wow cool video
@leon8285
cheers buddy!
there will be more to come! :)
great
Which firework is the ones that just make a big bang called? Dont do anything but a flash and a bang?
salutes or maroons

@vh718
haha, yeah! had my own set of ninja like black overalls!.....just in case we caught fire! :P
They are called salutes. Only to make flash and a bang. Some salutes are so big that they can cause car alarm systems set off.

those wooden motor racks are unsafe, if you have an in motor explosion you get the type of accident that happened in simi valley. Those racks are illegal here in Canada

Never use scissors.
Not everyone has a half-million dollar budget for their show. You would expect the smallest shell to be 6-inches...? You do realize that decent 6" shells (like the ones you see in this video) run about $35-$45 PER SHELL, right?
By the way, the "smaller shells" that "you can buy easily" are, in fact, cakes. As far as the actual individual shells go, it looks to range from 3" up to 6". No, you cannot "buy those easily."
:)
good for you some of us arnt so gunge ho about this china crap going off near us and like to have a little distance or maybe it needs to be set to music?
