- Here's a look at cycling with Apple Vision Pro, from inside on apps like Zwift & Rouvy, to outside on trails and pavement. How does it work? How does it handle sweat? Is it clear enough? I dig into all of it.
Check out JerryRigEverything's Apple Vision Pro teardown video: • Be gentle with the App...

Lots of folks asking about the little drone. It's the Hover X1: amzn.to/49Qirib (Quick Review: Automated tracking with no remote/phone - Great for running, so-so for cycling due to top-speed being 15MPH. But good in forested areas, because you just pick it back up again, and fly again. Fits in my running shorts pockets easily (or cycling jersey pockets). Video quality so-so in low-light, but good enough for most social or light CZcams work. No problems with high winds. For $400, would purchase again, definitely buy the combo pack with two batteries.) Longer review in the next few weeks.
I am asking more about your incredible t-shirt with the shark on the bike! Where can I get that?

Interested to hear about the hover x1, like you say looks fun for running. I’ve been curious if it can manage mountain / ridge line stuff with its camera based vertical tracking and it saying the ground needs to be flat. So curious if it flies down off the edge of the mountain when running a ridge line 😂
Ah cycling! Just 2 wheels, the open road and go pros, headset, drone, head units, power meters, electronic shifting, body sensors, electric pumps, etc... it really doesn't get any more pure than this for sport.
😂
I believe it’s called satire.
I'm getting off on humanity morphing into cyborgs
😂😂
Worst thing is that people think you need all of that crap to be good at it
The hero we need, but not the one we deserve.
The Nero podcast called it…DC rainmaker would be the guy to do this.
You had me a "vision pro sweat test" DC 😍
Lol. My first thought too!
Most unhinged Apple Vision Pro review by far. I love it!
We ALL knew you would be the first to do this...
I mean, someone had to do it. I just hope folks enjoy the nuance of all the testing! :)
@@Dcrainmaker I mean it's a long way from the Zwifting will riding IRL...lol
@@YouFearMe wonder why it's sold out...
@@kenhuntbecause simulated scarcity is the #1 rule of selling niche products by a company who has a cult following 🤿😁
I shoulda known, but still thought it was a bit too far outside the box. Schooled.
"What's the Catch?"
- you become a prime candidate for mugging
- you're a featured guest in an forthcoming Black Mirror episode
The catch is the buckets of sweat that are going to absorb into the mesh face thingy.
And here I was, waiting for the Rapture to ascend from this mortal form.. Idiot moi.
9:39 THIS is the use case I wanted. I’m a Rouvy user so glad to see you having a blast with that app. Also great to know it doesn’t fog up and it has little fans it in, and the cushions are washable.
… and I’m glad you’re crazy enough to ride it outside because, uh, I’ll let you go first.
@@YouFearMe it could be argued, quite effectively, that nobody needs Rouvy either.
Just after your timestamp, did you notice the freaky pass through the guys head including seeing his eyes? 😂
No, the real use case is when Zwift put you INSIDE of the game with the Vision Pro
Spelling mistake "Best Experiance" should read "Best Experience" ;)
Ray, you truly are the gem we all needed.
Thanks!
Thanks for putting your life on the line by going for a ride in Florida. The goggles were just an incremental risk. ;-)
I try as hard as possible to avoid Florida road riding, even if it means battling everything else. :)
The actual review we were waiting for !!! King Ray
Thanks!
Pure gold review! We really appreciate you leading the way on this and all product testing. I'll say your reviews are part of EVERY ONE of my cycling tech decisions on purchasing.
Thanks Scott!
You did what common sense would not allow me to do. The screen going black is an instant, "not gonna do it" revelation.
I had wondered about using it on my trainer with Zwift, and I was excited to see you take that on.
Thanks for doing the work I was unwilling to do. Great video!
Zwift on the Apple Vision Pro is like when radio hosts first appeared on TV - somewhat fascinating, but kinda awkward. What I’m really waiting for is a truly immersive Zwift experience that’s been developed for VR.
Great as always - and thanks for saving me 3,500 USD!
Well that was interesting. Riding with those outside probably very bad idea, very bad.
Heard this mentioned on the podcast, and have been waiting for this video to be uploaded!
Yeah, took about 12hrs longer than I thought to edit. 🤦♂️
I'm hoping that Zwift and Rouvy decide to build apps specifically for the Vision Pro. Cycling in VR sounds amazing!
Ok, Ray flying and crashing a drone at the lighthouse is now ancient past and history 😂🤣
For the record, I don’t think I’ve ever crashed any drones around the lighthouse. Everywhere else? That’s a totally different story…
@@Dcrainmaker ...but tried hard :) I was exaggerating ;)
Thank you for justifying my decision not to buy those fancy sunglasses.
Awesome video Ray. Thank you. Best regards Martin
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this video. Very interesting to see some sport focused activitites.
I would love to see a more long term review like 1-2 months after using the Apple vision pro for regular sessions and see if any long term issues arise.
Ok. King Vision Bro has arrived!😂
Brilliant as always, and you finally fixed the video quality at your desk, no longer washed out 😀
Welcome to 4hrs of futzing!
@@Dcrainmaker Great, now you can concentrate on that bird's nest of screwdrivers behind you. I can't see anything else....
@@mphillips24Nah, that drives comment engagement, which CZcams likes.
Cunning 😂
I liked this review.
So now you need to take it to the next level.
You'll need
- cybertruck with outlets
- top of the line direct drive trainer, with climbing etc
- Apple Vision Pro
- and a cool spot - public with traffic, outdoor cool say at a beach on the and
And run zwift there for total immersion
Thanks for the informative video. I’m glad that you didn’t crash. What drone are you using in the “mountain bike” section? Thanks
Hover X1. Not the greatest quality, but you can let it crash a million times in the forest, and pick it right back up again and keep going. No phone/controller/etc required to fly & automatic follow. Review soon.
I like AVP for a working computer environment: large, crisp multiscreen, but can wait for improvement. If DJI offers native support so that I can fly my Mavic 3 wirelessly using my RCPro without needing to use my MBP, then I would immediately purchase one. Great review!
Training inside, amazing. Do not see the point of outside training. I train outside to have a great experience with, well, the outdoors. Super cool video regardless.
Get used to it.
The outdoors isn't going to be around much longer.
Thank you for explaining the different levels of App integration, I had been wondering about that and the Apple demos don’t really cover it.
Never expected this video since I never thought about this use. Pretty cool! I hope a cheaper, but great VR headset does come for Zwift.
Thanks as always for an in-depth review! I think that Travel mode would be useful for passengers in a car, but I can see why they’d not want to implement such a feature. People a lot less considerate and competent would be using it for unintended purposes. 🤣
Considering Zwift just laid off 25% of their employees to save money on payroll it’s doubtful
Scary insights of the head at 9:52 😂So cool to see this review about the 🍏🥽 Pro and cycling! Makes me wanna try Zwift on the Meta Quest 3. And a 🍏🥽 Pro is on the way 🥹
Super fun video
That is bloody madness
For running and cycling I'd love sunglasses that primarily provide pace/speed, workouts etc, taking data from Garmin device or phone. Come on Garmin/Oakley!
I'm here for the questionable life choices! 😂😂
Really good video. As you said, if the price comes down then maybe, but until then, no way.
Experience - not experiance. Sorry, can't help it. LOOOOVE your videos.
I saw it too and now I can't unsee it. I'm useless now
Yeah, win some, lose some!
Nice one. Pity it doesn’t work well outside. I can see it attached to a rear facing BT camera to get rear view which would be handy and safe as well. Also Sat Navigation , take video calls etc. Maybe next gen.
Ray Good to see you on Rouvy... much better drafting and physics IMHO. Would be interested to see a comparison to the Meta Quest 3 for those of us not in the Apple sphere. But not sure VR is going to add much to indoor cycling until the apps are rewritten for the environment w 360 views and surround sound so you can hear people gaining on your position.
I’m sure we are looking at the future here. Very cool.
Ray, you are the boss 😂. I’m wondering if sweating like I do while riding indoors would damage the Vision Pro. Definitely a risk that I wouldn’t take lol😅
Awww, what a typo - you wrote 'Best experiance' where you meant to write 'Best experience'. Hope that helps :-)
I only do swift in the winter time but I have my trainer in front of a TV in the basement to watch a movie. No way I’d want to watch that island for 2 hours
I’ve only used zwift in VR (since 2019) It’s great, let’s you really focus and hides my unfinished basement
I wont be rushing out to get one of those. I'm sure that the tech and the apps will improve in the years to come but right now I don't really see much benefit but mostly just a huge expense and some added discomfort.
Nice review, what drone did you use?
Can you please test the Xreal Air 2 Ultra glasses? It was showcased in CES 2024 and looks promising
bro! u r z best😎
Togethee with the Garmin Varia Camera, it could show the rear view when the radar senses a car on one half of the vision!
Thank you for risking your personal safety so we don't have to. 👍😁😉 As with so many things VR, cool stuff, interesting potential, will watch and wait. Not an early adopter for this tech and not in the Apple ecosystem, so there's that. I appreciate the review. 👏🙌
Would love to see sunglasses leverage the tech to be able to give optimal lines through descents (think Forza racing with the assist line where the line goes red if you're coming in too hot for that line)
Nice ONE! :D
Now this is content
Experiance?
Great review, can you offer an opinion on how effective they are if it is very bright out ie: a friend needs to wear double sunglasses in order to be outside on these days. Thanks
Zero reason to wear sunglasses, as it’s just pass through video.
apple warning : Never use Apple Vision Pro while operating a moving vehicle, bicycle, heavy machinery, or in any other situations requiring attention to safety. nobody reads the rules anymore.... Stay safe guys, while making EVERYONE safe.
can you use for zwift only so that picture does not move but you can explore the zwift 3D world by moving your head?
never even considered zwift with the VR. will def be giving it a go.
Do it, it’s really great
LOL. I was wondering how crazy you could get with these!!!! Why it's almost like being in love!
If I need to escape this world, I think I'll just become an alcoholic instead.
AH, The feel of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd.
Interesting video. As much as I would be interested in a Full VR version of something like Zwift, I just know that sweat will eventually kill these machines. Maybe not in a month or two but I'd wager well before their normal non-exercise service life. I'm already having to buy multiple sets of earbuds due to sweat death and I wouldn't want to add a few thousand £'s to that. Even the drastically more reasonably priced Meta Quest 3 is beyond what I risk to Sweat induced death.
I have a funny feeling that Apple probably designed this to be sweat proof (without saying it), and is basically using it as a long term test bed to see what liquid/sweat deaths look like long term, via warranty claims. Let’s them tweak designs for a next gen.
using a halo strap and removing the facial interface on a quest 3 would be the best choice.
@@Dcrainmakeryeah, or maybe they will come out with a fitness headband for this version. Kind of sounds like the early Apple Watch where they said don’t take a shower with it even thought it was fully water proof
Could you link the drone to the Headset and then ride in third person?
Have you tried eyeglasses that is see-through but can project screen to your eyes? Like Viture One XR
The sweat, the size and the weight would put me off ever using one for excercise.
the tech is exciting, but it has a way to go in terms of size and weight before I can see myself wanting to use one :D
Any plans for new open ear buds from Bose? I’m curious!!
This is what we've been waiting for. Of course it was Ray to make it happen. So, for outdoor fitness, maybe not cycling yet, or running. What could walking or hiking be? Hmmm
9:52 clipping through those inside out faces is spooky stuff
The rule of thumb is to buy into new Apple products when they get to gen 3. By then they have normally ironed out the creases
What is going on here? Not sure why this video came across, but the fluoride in the water is certainly winning!
Don't think this is for me... 😂 I think I'll fall off the bike instantly.
Thanks
Thanks Andrew, much appreciated!
I am actually impressed by how well it handles sweat! Not even lens fog??
Not one bit. Super surprised there.
Zwift in vr looks bananas
You're the guy who wears a mask - outdoors - after covid is done - so it makes sense that you would be among the first to try the Apple Vision Pro.
What we are waiting for is the ''see trhough'' Vr/AR headset with these kind of mobile aplications. The see trhough tv's displays are already here for years.
indoor cycling is the only use case I'd have for these, the weight issue might be a dealbreaker for me.
It would be great for your to do the same with the Metquest 3 and compare it. Lighter, Andoid app focussed and suppsoingly more sweat resistant. Can't find anyone else who has done this, so could be a big video for you.
I don't believe you can run Zwift in it?
Olá, qual é a marca e modelo do drone que estava a filmar? Obrigado
Can you zoom in on live viewing? If you’re looking at the Eiffel Tower, can you optical zoom to see more detail? ❤️
Which drone were you using in this video? Thanks
I would still feel more comfortable doing anything outside my house with true pass-through goggles like the Hololens 2. True AR, too. It just seems like having a non transparent slab of glass in front of my eyes would be "not ideal" when riding a bike if suddenly 1 or more cameras malfunctioned.
Nothing wrong with some cape point riding! 😊
Yup, it's a great section - love it in real life! Albeit, Chapman's Peak is hard to beat too...
After using it for a week, I think it's worth five times the price. I thought I would feel some buyer's remorse, but nope, the opposite is true. I'm getting on for everyone in my family.
Soon we will see stories in the news of people driving with them on.
This is pretty amazing tbh. But ultimately the cost of the goggles is a pretty nice bike haha
What quadcopter drone was that you had on the trails?

wouldnt it be useful if it had ir or night vision capability?
I had no idea I needed to see this but with Casey Neistat's that was the best review haha
what does the apple vision do? because other than looking "cool" for onlookers, I don't get the point.
9:54 did anyone else get a little spooked when Ray cycled through the second guy and saw the inside if the person’s face?
You can achieve this with a $500 meta quest 3. The inside riding that is. With the right after market strap, the goggles float in front of your face, so your padding doesn't get all disgustingly wet with sweat. I won't hope for a VR version of zwift though, it'll take years before they add functionality like that
Agree, but, I think the key thing there is the lack of mainstream cycling apps. In some ways, even with all its compatibility quirks, having easy-button iOS and iPad apps (or at worst Mac Mirroring), is the secret weapon here. Now, if only the price was viable.
It shouldn't. There's already a 3D renderer running for Zwift, so making it VR goggle compatible should be pretty simple. That said, they may have taken some of the usual 3D graphics hacks of not putting back surfaces on objects to looking at things behind you might look crap.
Black. Crap. 2 seconds bumpy road and black. Crazy shit. Big Ups for going through it all for us.
Need to pipe the 3rd person drone view into the headset realtime!
did you hit the brakes when the blackout happened and/or fall? lol I would've eaten it for sure
I did, albeit not super hard, just enough to keep things clean and steady. Thankfully it came back on relatively quickly, and thankfully I was on a straightaway.
I can’t see myself Zwifting with this headset and filling it with sweat!
Does it have sunny ☀️ mode for riders that don’t do rain?
What real purpose would there be to wear this device while bike riding outside, sweating, restricting your vision, risking a black out due to shitty battery life, etc. the indoor riding seems cool except for the sweating.
I’m excited for the 2nd 3rd generations of these, apple have hit it out of the park on the first attempt. Like to be fair only apple could. won’t be long before zwift is optimised for it and that will be pretty awesome. maybe some third party sweat proof headbands and eye pieces are coming soon….
I use Rouvy and Zwift daily. Not sure why I never thought to try the Quest 2 with Virtual desktop and Rouvy. Going to try Rouvy/Quest 2 next ride. I have run on the treadmill with the Quest 2. Need to try that again too. Will definitely fog up with a Meta headset though.
It’s awesome!! Try it. Just make sure you get a sweat face pad and use the soft strap. In VR it really helps you focus on the ride
@@peteostro Cool.. thanks for the confirmation. Did my Zwift ride this morning, but going to try Rouvy /Quest 2 this afternoon. Do you use Quest Link or VD?
Two seconds in I knew that was going to be Florida.
Was it the palm trees or outrageous medical bill? 😂 USA baby!
It was the tropical forest but now that you mentioned it prices for everything in FL is outrageous now.
