    I know this is old video but saw you still answer comments. Hopefully you will see this....What is stock for Emerald Urethane Trim? The options I see is Ultra White, Hi Hide White or Deep Base....which one do I go with??? Emerald Matte for the ceiling does come in Extra White. Your videos are solid and very informative.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 4 měsíci +2

      So the base white for Emerald Urethane is Hi Hide White which is what we use all the time for trim and doors. You would only use a deep base for a dark color. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the video you've definitely have helped. It's so hard to pick out paint colors cuz I know I'm going to have to live with it for a while and I'm the one painting so I'm not doing this again. It took me years to decide what color to paint my outside of my house and I ended up going with gray and I'm going to try and incorporate different gray tones in the house that way I can add color around it. I'm just that way.

    Do all 'stock' paints from the same company match? So anything 'stock' from SW is going to match? Also, if you were to get the stock paint from say Behr and from SW, would they be the same or different? Thanks for your expertise, sir. Subbed!

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Not all stock paints from the same company are the same. The bases for different products are different. The base white in Promar ceiling paint is different than the base white in duration or emerald. Whether or not they “match” is somewhat subjective. We use stock ceiling paint and stock trim paint all the time (the bases are different) and it looks great together.
      As you may have guessed the base whites from different companies are also different.
      Thanks for watching!

    My wife and I are painting ceilings, walls, trim, and kitchen cabinets/built ins. If we go stock white for ceiling and trim would you carry the stock white to the cabinets? Wall color is going to be an off white.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před rokem +1

      I would, but that’s my preference. There’s nothing wrong with picking a different color for your cabinets, but going with the same white as your trim is a solid move.
      Good luck with your painting!

  • @thomascampitelli3268

    You mention that just pulling the paint off the shelf without tinting it results in better coverage. This goes against almost everything that I have read and Behr's customer support phone line mentions that you should get your white paint tinted to achieve maximum coverage. That even includes a color like Ultra Pure White. I get being able to return unused paint if you do not get it tinted, but why do you suggest that untinted paint covers better?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 3 lety +5

      The untinted formulations cover better for most lines of paint. That did not use to be the case a few years ago, and most folks would get the base paints tinted out for the reasons that you described. I can speak with more confidence about Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore's line of products. Their stock colors tend to cover the best. That being said, there are so many different lines of paint, even within one particular brand that there may be an advantage to getting a stock base tinted out. I tried covering my butt in the video by saying that the stock formulations covered the best "generally".
      If Behr is suggesting to tint out their base formulations, then give it a go. I'd still recommend going with the same color on all the ceilings in your house, so that it keeps things simple. Good luck!

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Mariana. Yes that is what we recommend. Most of our clients go with flat for ceilings and semi gloss for trim. It does come down to personal preference and you can do whatever your heart desires. But most people desire same trim and ceiling color w/ flat on ceilings and semi on trim :)

    Question? Have a lot of trim in my house and previous owners painted the top lip of the trim with the flat wall paint over gloss trim…can I paint semi gloss over flat or would I need to sand all the top lips of the trim? Or would I need to use primer ?I have been using Sherwin Williams Eminence stock white ceiling paint for years….and they have been totally out of stock for a while now here in Washington state. I had to go with one of their flat stock white paints.Got one coat on throughout kitchen/living room and I can tell it doesn’t look right to not do the pool table room because when you look into that room it looks dingy looking in from living room. Also so many can lights in this house, I pulled all of them down from the ceiling as I believe prep work is everything. Patched, sanded all the settling cracks and covered all the floors w/drop cloths and kitchen cabinets w/plastic. I only mention this is for those first timers that you need to calculate in having some of the items I mentioned as well as painters tape, caulking, primer and a good angle brush for cutting in your walls/ceilings/trim. You can also use card board, paper bags to protect your floors or counter tops. Tip: use plastic bag to wrap your brushes and rollers between your first and second coat, it will save you time instead of having to clean them out. Hope this helps. Happy painting and turn on some good tunes it makes it more enjoyable!

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Tina. Yes you can paint semi gloss over flat paint. If there are any imperfections you don't like you can sand them with sand paper before you start painting. We like Sherwin williams Promar ceiling paint for ceilings. Also Super paint flat works as well. Sounds like you have all the right materials and yes we like wrapping our brushes and rollers in plastic, especially Saran wrap. Happy painting!

    Outside walls are painted with a bubble finish. Will have to spray them if i want to change the colour yellow that are terrebly dirty and full of dust. Will I need to wapp it clean first? Ceilings also yellow high gloss.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před rokem

      It’s not a bad idea to at least vacuum the walls before you paint them. You might be able to use a thicker nap roller and brush and roll the walls and ceiling. You’d be surprised what you can brush and roll. But if you’re comfortable spraying then let it rip 👍

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there. For trim most of our clients will pick the same trim and ceiling color. Most clients go with the stock white color as well. Thats a safe bet. If you want to get crazy you can do whatever color scheme your heart desires. As long as you like it :)

    I need to repaint my bathroom ceilings. Under the initial paint job you can still see the tape used to close the edges. Do you have a suggestion for the type of mud I should used to smooth it out then sand and then paint again?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Anna. Happy to help. Normal spackle is fine. They sell small containers at any hardware store. We like the green label (lid is green) but the blue label (blue lid) is fine). You may need to do multiple coats as well. If there is a shower in the bathroom I would suggest to use a moisture resistant paint, that will make the biggest difference. If you want the gold standard make sure to prime the spackle spots as well. Hope this helps! Good luck

      @@SuperVassarBrothers Thank you! I went to Lowes today to get everything I needed for my bathroom makeover and when I asked where the moisture resistant ceiling paint would be for a bathroom the guy told me there was no such thing as ceiling paints are flat and they don’t come in moisture resistant! 🤨 I decided I would come home and watch video again and see which one you recommended.
