Calling Rose and Pearl "friends" is the understatement of the century 😂😂
It seemed more onesided tbh. Rose was just closely affectionate where as Pearl wanted more. We also largely see Rose as someone who was continually exploring herself in many different ways, so maybe there was some point where they were basically a couple, but it must not have lasted long.

I don't think Rose ever saw her as more than a friend and companion but Pearl was legitimately obsessive to the point where she idolized her and put her on the pedestal of "she can do no wrong." To the point where she was still deeply infatuated years later and anything said even remotely negative was a personal attack on her memory. Until she eventually comes to the realization that "maybe she wasn't so perfect after all." It almost seems like codependency on Pearl's end. Yikes all around and a good look at toxic relationships and friendships
the way i see it was more of a friendzoning on the part of rose. like pearl made her dedication clear but rose pretty much was like "haha, cute but we're just friends" so i would say them "just being friends" is accurate if only because i find very little to go on that they had any actually romance. it was a tale of unrequited love hence why pearl felt so betrayed when rose finally did pick someone
@@williamhallam706 I agree with that 100%. I think that's part of why she hated Greg for a long time. Because in her eyes he came out of nowhere and is the reason Rose didn't choose her, even though there's never really any competition and we never actually SEE Rose make any hints or advances that she likes Pearl like that at all, it's all one-sided.

Yeah, I loved it because Steven was so positive and happy, and then as a teenager he's feeling emotions he's not used to feeling. Wondering things about his life and his past, like how would things have been if he had been raised differently, trying to figure out what he's feeling and why, I feel like it's super relatable because we all go through these feelings at some point; learning to cope with feelings of negativity, depression, anger. Figuring out the answers "why" to things the best we can, so we can move forward. Finding our place in the world and in other's lives. It was hard to watch Steven like that, but just so damn REAL. It was so fulfilling.. oh and the Volleyball episode had me cryyying at the end, because I related to Pearl SO much... when Volleyball asked her how she stopped the pain, I whispered my answer just before she said hers... "I didn't" because I knew what she went through, and sometimes the pain doesn't go away. You just learn to accept it and be okay with it, and still move on.

Steven struggling to accept change really hits hard. He was a kid who had to grow up so fast to the point when he finally has the time to be freed from responsibilities, everyone he knows are has grown and going down their own paths. While he's stuck behind. The thoughts he has been holding back for so long came out.
You realize that even though he's a teenager, Steven is still a kid by heart. But his character grew when he admitted he needed help and time away. I guess thats why some people don't like the spin-off. Because it tackles real life problems in a more deeper way.
I honestly think the Spin-Off was a nice touch, cause after all the dust settled, Steven is literally still just a kid, even if he has saved the world, and often times a lot of other stories don't actually deal with what happens after it's all said and done.

I like that they made it essential to show what so much trauma does to you once you settle down, once you leave survival mode. And especially how it starts showing the labor of its poisoned roots now he's an older teen.

Like with my own trauma, sure there were effects even as a child, behavioural, anxiety that led me to chest pains and s*... But once I was around 15, that's when depression really started hitting, panic attacks, insomnia, lots of symptoms related to anxiety that really f* you up. And as I aged and got into a safer circumstance, my health seemed to lash out, like Steven's.
It feels ridiculous for me to experience such intense anxiety attacks or/and insomnia from things that aren't dangerous, or an attack on my life, after what I've been through in the past. Emotional deregulation, unexpected triggers 🤷♀️ this felt very real, although it was resolved too quickly.
Also, I feel for Steven. He got his fun times robbed, and now everything's settled and everyone he's helped have figured their stuff out, he's losing them to their future instead of getting to appreciate the peaceful times, he's lost his purpose and he lost human formative years. So there he goes, finally off to be a human

Really glad people are making recaps like this, there are so many shows that I feel like I would have enjoyed but just never could justify the time needed to watch them. On some level, I feel like I'm missing out, but I tend to need to constantly stop in the middle of things for parenting or other responsibilities. Even after getting a sort of "medical retirement", there just isn't enough hours in the day being a single dad and being able to at least somewhat understand why people like a show I haven't had time to watch myself makes me feel a bit more in the loop with others.
I suggest watching some with your kid(s). I do that with my kid & she enjoys it a lot. With adult shows, maybe you can find time during breaks or at night to watch a show here and there. I hate that I missed out on so many shows & so that’s how I have been catching up on some of them.

This show is really comforting and you really get connected with the characters through they'r stories. To be honest the ending episode's always get me, when Steven breaks down, because he's scared of change it's hard not to feel bad since you know all the things he has went through. Im surprised how a silly little children's show can get a person this invested in it.

It's fair to call it a silly cartoon because it IS a silly cartoon. Even the later episodes have weird silly things in them, it just starts having more serious undertones.
A lot of cartoons do this unless they are specifically designed to be practically brain dead.

My interpretation when watching was that Greg started to feel like Rose saw him more like a plaything than a partner. Greg, in turn, came to terms with the fact that she's not a regular person either. They were worlds apart. It was interesting to see

It’s so cool to see the full story. And to hear them. I watched this show overtime with my completely deaf cousin at their house. They never had the sound on. And I didn’t complain. Just read subtitles and watched along. They all sound so different then I thought they would. I liked the show a lot. Never got to see the end. Thanks for this full recap,

This whole video brings back so many childhood memories. I never watched the last season and the movie and subsequent spinoff, but I’m excited to rewatch the entire series again including the movie and spin-off.
Really great breakdown of the series. Steven Universe wasn't perfect but it did a lot of good. I've always had some appreciation for it.

First time seeing this show I thought it was going to be a boring kids show. Then the story continued again and again, that's when I realized the writers were creating a story that wasn't going to skip. once it got to season 2 I was hooked and became emotionally invested.
Movie was ok, songs were good.
Steven Universe Future hit me the hardest because it resonated with me the most.

That pearl within a pearl thing might sound nonsensical, but if you take a look at it from a metaphorical view, it makes sense, atleast to me
When far below the facades and different aspects of your personality, there's a part of you that wants to speak the truth
But it gets buried again and again by other things, excuses of all manners
Like there's no real reason for the important thing to be said, like it's not going to mean or change anything or that noone has to know

watching this show and growing up with little to no physical affection, while its shown often in the show made me uncomfortable at first until i thought about it and learned that it was a normal amount and physical affection and it was something i needed to work on. because of that this will always be on of my favorite shows
I'm just now noticing towards the end of the video how the crystal gems all have the star on each of them. Steven's shirt, Pearl's jacket, Amethyst's pants, and Garnet's glasses as well as her chest piece I think. I quit watching around the time they was playing baseball with Lapis so it's nice to catch up with what I missed.
