Kembang semangkuk in english is the malva nut or the taiwan sweet gum tree nut. Its a type of nut from a tree when submerged in water, it blooms and turns gelatinous. Kembang semangkuk literally means blooms in a bowl. Pretty weird, but it is believed to have some sort of medicinal properties (to cool the body and for digestion) and it’s pretty popular in south east asian drinks.
Dayana K Awesome! I came to the comment section just to see if someone would actually explain the ingredients in English like he requested and BOOM! You just did! I was curious, as well, so thank you!!!
Katie Glass no biggie 😁 my mom showed it to me when I was a kid, it was like an alien science experiment, the way it turn into goo from a hard nut. Never knew it would come in handy someday. 😂
Ok I'm sold on Ais Tingkap and ikan baker, pick out the best as usual thanks guys. I'm still amazed how that coconut guy hasn't chopped off one of his fingers yet, great skill.
I think this is fantastic! I’m from London UK and I always watch CZcamsrs who travel and eat and I must admit as a first time viewer, Me and my wife really enjoyed your video. Don’t stop chasing your dream
Thanks to you two, my travel list is getting longer and longer and I love it! Thanks for another great video Luke and Sabrina! By the way that first drink looks incredibly delicious.
Hi Luke, I was in Penang 2 years ago, and I daydream about it all the time still! I gotta find a chance to go back there sometime. Did you go to Lebuh Chulia street at night? Lots of stalls come out at night. I'll be going to Shanghai in January, and in March I'll go to Manila, Saigon, Da Nang, maybe Hong Kong.
Both of you are very lucky to be there to eat all the best foods in the world best place for healthy foods spices and not spicy foods thank you for sharing your beautiful healthy foods enjoy your holiday there thank you for sharing Bless you all have a good day thank you
Luke Martin 👍👍👍 ... Marvelous food 👌👌👌 .... You are the top adventurer I've ever seen!! Thanks again and again for sharing your trips to us 💯💯💯... Greetings to You from Africa Cairo Egypt Pyramids River Nile 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Watching you eat the rice porridge gave me flash backs to working in a Chinese owned sushi bar in Philly. My boss was the sweetest and knew I struggled for money so he let me eat with them every day. That braised duck is something I know all to well

Yay! You are back in Malaysia! Really love your videos because you actually explore some of the more local unique places and not just the touristy area. Welcome back, and have fun! 😊
Well done, Penang Tourism Bureau should employ you promote Penang. I was born in Penang.....so on and so forth...Enjoy your food you may not return to taste this kind of food again.
Love your coverage of the different food in Penang. It is also great to hear your pronounce the dish names so well and it is also great to hear you pronounce "herb" with the "H".
I really love watching your videos,it makes me hungry everytime I watch all you foodie travel.im your subscriber forever😂😂hope u will come in Philippines.
Are you still in Penang? If so, go to the Batu Ferringhi night market and eat at the Hawker center there...some of the best hawker foods. Try anything shrimp, Satay, noodles...You are in my favorite street food country :) You can google map it and take the bus. Its about 35 minutes out, but worth it. Get off the bus by the intersection with the McDonalds and gas. The hawker center wasn't far from there. Walk the night market and catch the bus back. If you try to catch the bus by the McDonalds it may be full so walk up and catch the bus at the other end of the night market.
Hey Luke great vlog, I love Penang as well and Malaysia as a whole. May I suggest if you have time to do an episode on local malaysian fresh fruits currently in season, thanks.
Wow! What a wonderful insight into Penang! The drink and satay chicken looks fabulous! Speaking of you and Sabrina look fabulous too. Thank you for sharing! Love you guys!!! ♥️😉

Ghaz Arf Well, that just isn't right. Nobody should be taken advantage of because they don't understand a different culture or their language or prices. Shame on them for doing that to Luke and Sabrina. These two need some guidance and education on how to haggle with vendors from locals like yourself. I'm sure they could learn a lot!
You definitely need to try Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Patin Masak Tempoyak and a lot more. There's also a different between Kelantan and Terengganu nasi dagang. You need to try it dude. Authentic Malay food
I was going to say Luke...there is no such thing as winter in Malaysia, nor in any of the countries in Southeast Asia. We just don't have 4 seasons.... we only have rain or sun~
Just some advice, you can use the chopstick on the right hand & spoon on the left (vice versa) without put them on the table everytime you're about to scoop another dishes
@@LukeMartin Ok. Going to Penang. Do you think I can skip Kuala Lumpur then? I heard it's just a big city with not much to do after seeing the Petronas Towers.
Hi, your food videos are quite awesome and you definitely have a huge following because of that.. But I have one suggestion for you, may be when you get some juice to drink, it will be better if you can insist the seller not to give plastic straw along with the juice. In that way you can avoid plastic pollution and also motivate your viewers to avoid plastic straws.. afterall juice can be had directly from the container itself (glass, cup, coconut shell etc)
Hi Luke, you should visit Pakistan, last month Mark Wiens went to Pakistan for 15 days tour. He enjoyed a lot with different kind of foods in all around Pakistan. Subcontinents foods are the best in the world (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh especially).
