      I’m not a fan of anything Chino has done but he definitely likes great bands, which is weird because his music sucks. You’d think with influences like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Christian Death, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, etc he’d release something decent.

    I love Deftones, for some reason, to this day. And I agree with him, Turn On The Bright Lights is an absolutely perfect album. It's alchemical gold. Whatever they were doing worked out perfectly.

      3827167492842 The Sound and especially The Chameleons also likely influenced Interpol. Guitar wise, The Chameleons likely had more of an influence on Interpol than Joy Division.

      @@soysaucehairdye7869 Yeah those bands sound so much more like interpol. People focus way too much on Paul's voice though. Dan just kinda struck gold finding him because apparently Paul was mostly into hip-hop and had never listened to Joy Division.

      @soysaucehairdye7869 Před 4 lety +7

      @@Lizard1582 Yeah I definitely agree with you m8. Whats kind of crazy is that Jeff Buckley was heading towards that sound as well before he died in 97. His second album which isn't necessarily completed songs has a lot of post-punk influences and it would have been insane to see both him and Interpol come out of New York with that awesome sound at around the same time. Jeff Buckley had his hand on the pulse right before the post-punk revival imho.

    Why? Why would you like an album by a band that’s basically like Joy Division (I know, that comparison has been done to death) but with none of the passion, genuine depression, or authenticity. Interpol basically just flashes and flaunts depression and despair and hardship that the well-off, privileged band members have never experienced in their entire lives as if it’s a new NYC luxury designer suit or apartment home furnishing or kitchen appliance (metaphors of which riddle their nonsensical lyrics). It just comes off to me as completely insincere and phony and I hate that.

      They were not a privileged or well-off band. Most of them were working minimum wage and practicing in shitty rental places before they got a record deal 6 or so years after having struggled. I can get not connecting with an album as much but just making shit up to try and explain why something that doesn't click with you should not click with others either is some room temperature iq shit. I think the well-off, privileged band you're thinking of are The Strokes not Interpol. And there's enough passion and authenticity in that first album that's it's still being praised two decades after it's release. So the problem here obviously isn't in the album but in you.
