I have an idea, what do you think about it ? Should I start a shop ?

I would be more likely to buy something from you than from anywhere else. You are honest, and I don't believe you would charge more than what you are selling is worth, (and possibly less than it's worth.) I know that businesses that sell simple coils and simple antennas to hams for hundreds of dollars leave me cold.
Near as I can tell, you, Guido, Hans Summers, and a few others exemplify what amateur radio is all about, or should be, and folks like you are where I want to put my ham radio hobby money.

I would support any shop you decide to start. I think your linked dipole multiband as a kit with or without the wire would be a hit. The 3d printed parts can be difficult to aquire.

Yes please! Make an online shop, I'm studying for the license and would love to order your trusdx from the source. I could also suggest to make a shack in a box kit like battery pack, antena, etc for portable qrp set. I'd be happy to pay a bit extra to support your work and family instead of big corpo. 73!

Yes, sounds good and prices are very reasonable.
That case is very well thought out and well worth the price. The DIY printing of it would be challenging and I can easily see a person with low amount of printing experience spending more money than your price to do a defect free print, not to mention the time involved.

To have a shop in EU rather then buying in China, is far more convenient. Personal I don't have an IC705, but there are many other interesting stuff, such as the Trusdx assembled or in kit, and other QRP related equipment. This is looking at my side. Looking at yours, the most important one can have is the family. You can not recover the lost time away from the children etc. You have to measure the impact and decide if you can hold it. Whatever your choice, I wish you all the best. 73 Luis, CU2IJ

The idea is sound, and I am am sure you could sell at those prices.. I would suggest that it may be wise to sell the *parts* of the kit, as well as the kit itself. If I already have the wire, & I want the board , the cap & the toroid, for example.. of just the toroid etc. I personally would balk at paying $80 ( plus postage & VAT probably) for a "simple" wire antenna , but knowing i can get the *correct* parts for one ( and supply the wire) is a different matter..

    Good Morning Manuel,
Having been a long time supporter of the (tr)uSDX project, I believe that any project that you begin, will be operated in an honest and customer friendly way. I watched this "Business Adventure" video, and many others that you publish, and must say that you have the mind of a businessman. I think your suggested prices are LOW, considering the prices for other items on the amateur radio market and the cost of 3D printers. I can hardly make antennas at those costs. My time is my time, because I am retired and I can spend hours designing and 3D printing items, but I think having something already made( like the IC705 case) means a lot to those who have to source a 3D printer or operator of one for hire.
As said by others, you will source logistics, write a business plan (with realistic projected goals) and run it past the family showing the effort put forward and the rewards for doing so. Maybe even a 5 year plan with milestones set annually so you can measure your business as it progresses. Maybe you will have a family business going where they help, I don't know. I will say family is important! Time with family, especially when they are young, can never be replaced. If your desire to start a business is sound, and you have your plan and finances to start it up, then by all means follow that dream.
I wish you the best of luck with whichever way you go and look forward to some of your items if you decide to continue with the idea. In the meantime, I will continue to support the (tr)uSDX project as best that I can and if this "Business Adventure" does progress, I look forward to doing future business with you
    Bill - W3SI

I believe you have a market at those prices: I bought a protection system for my KX3, and 3D printed screen and knob covers for my TX-500. It may be a smaller market than you might think from watching CZcams ham radio influencers: they buy (or are given) everything. However, I'm not convinced that you will make money at those prices (and making some money for better vacations, more frequent dining out, etc., will better compensate your family for the loss of time spent with you). There will be costs that you aren't considering. And if you sell it, there will be support costs, no matter what stipulations you attempt to make up front (and time taken from family will be a significant part of that cost). So even if you charge what you should to make a bit of money, only do this if you are going to enjoy running this business.

Hi Manuel, I think a shop is a great idea< I know you said this would not include the (TR)usdx, but as an example, I would love one of them, but I will not by things from China or the Chinese platforms, so I do not have one. I am the same with all that I buy on line as I have had so many problems purchasing stuff from Asia. So I would purchase things definitely from you if it was something I required as it would be from Europe. Good luck with your idea, I think your costs would not rip people off, you are the type to cover time and expenses, so that has to be fair. 73 you are inspirational to the hobby.

I would say keep doing the things you are good at: creating great products. Let others do the manufacturing while you do the inventing. Maybe consider selling autographed gear. I have to agree with Scott you are a great designer/engineer who is very creative. I would be concerned that those talents might be dulled unless you had another party to do the manufacture and front end sales. Entering into an agreement with a manufacturer where you get a percentage of sales whilst keeping an eye on QC and doing some promotion. Basically a relationship similar to what you have with Sonny but you make some money.

    The
prizes for the 3D printed case and the antenna kit appear very high. K6ARK, for example, sold his end fed antenna kits for around 35€ without wire. But welcome in the world of inflation.😮

Your a great idea's man , and without doubt you will come up with even more great idea's. But where do you draw the line between work and family , this could become very labour intensive with little time for family..... and family has to come first. So in saying that it may be better to come up with the idea's and then have some place in china or Vietnam etc produce the items for you to your spec's in amounts you could sell in your shop , your profit margin would probably be a little less but so would your labor..... Kits and the finished products for those that can't or don't want to do a kit. I would def buy from you as you have already proved your integrity to your devoted followers of which i;m one. For that products with guaranteed performance and quality the price is more than honest. And think about volume. If You are too low you will have problems with the demand. Of what I observe to be available on the market the most offers does not work as advertised, assembled with cheap and not genuine parts by hired people who are not hams, not even knowing of what they assemble. Also no testing happens and sold as available in stock. That's the reason why I build all by myself but who can not do it this way, depends on that unreliable sources. So, once again, put the price to a margin where You can handle the demand. Don't forget the support, packing and shipping for orders. This is mostly an underestimated effort. May be You pass that part of incoming orders, packing and shipping to someone of Your family member so that they are also involved and benefitted from what You are doing. And, do not go too low in pricing For what You call I estimate it as a absolut minimum.

Realistically, I think anything large would be annoyingly expensive to ship from Germany to Canada, while shipping from China is usually free. However, things like PCBs and sometimes also components are often too expensive to buy as an individual.
Ordering from Germany, I think I would be more likely to purchase something like a PCB that could be mailed in a letter envelope, or possibly smaller/higher value electronic kits that I'm sure would be more interesting than most of the small kits you can currently buy online if the product was coming from you. So, I guess what I'm saying is, "please become a modern/micro version of Heathkit"! ;-)

Yes, I would buy your 705 case at the price you mentioned and any other accessories that allows the icom 705 to fit into ICOM’s multi-bag LC-192. There are many other protection products but they all make the 705 too big to fit into ICOM’s bag. Therefore, focus your products on POTA or SOTA operations to compliment ICOM’s bag, keep it light in weight, to add it into a icom 705 “go bag”, and I will buy your products.

Sounds reasonable to me. You say about halfway through that for the housing those aren't your production costs. Those absolutely are your production costs, they're just not your material costs which is probably a small few bucks give or take depending on filament. Your production costs are way higher, not just in your time but your printers' time and upkeep, not even considering the design/R&D costs. Yes if these were mass produced as blowmolds in China and sold by the millions in Walmart it'd be way cheaper, this is obviously not the case and supply/demand suggests your costs are in the right ballpark, and I think anyone who's spent the kind of money for a 705 and has bought niche accessories for it and other ham radio goodies should understand that. I think you'd do well selling a lot of accessories like the case, antenna stuff, and trusdx accessories. GL & 73, Jason KO4NDP

It's a lot of work but I think it's a great idea. You will need to manage a product cycle, how many to make and stock before you discontinue it. Might combine well with retro gaming (Hint hint!!).

Your prices are very reasonable. You're great at designing and building prototypes. Have others build from what you create, whether it's 3-D printing or cutting antenna wire.

I don't have access to a 3D printer or a PCB mill, but I can access a specified gauge of wire. If you can keep the shipping cost down by not shipping the wire, I would be more likely to buy something.

Me parece una excelente idea. En cuanto a precios y ese tipo de cosas creo que estará en función inversa a la demanda que tengas de cada producto. Es muy justo que cobres por el tiempo que dedicas a este trabajo, aunque lo disfrutes como un hobby. 73.

You need to decide if you have time to start another business. Do you have 5 hrs a week to devote to this? 10hr? 20? Could you hire someone to do this? People will buy your products, but YOU need to decide if you have the time. Good luck whatever your decision is.

Perhaps you'd consider cases for other radios such as the KX3 which I use for POTA activations. 72 de KE2YK
