    Very good result of efhw baluns. I think you had better wound 3 turns reduce to 2 turns for the primary of balun. Look at the most right for the input power of 10 meter at 27 line. it is less than another band input power. the primary wound will good by increase widing turns at low frequency band. but high frequency band will bad responce. Thank you.

    Excellent video, Jan. I'm starting to learn about the fundamentals of magnetic toroids and how the various properties affect what. Ive run across your and Colin's work while poking around on this topic on CZcams. I'm pretty early on the learning journey, but is the primary benefit of improved "core efficiency" that of less core heating at a particular power level/duty cycle, so the transformer has higher power handling capability? Less RF energy transferred to the core would mean that more can make it to the antenna, but a 10% bump or so in efficiency wouldn't be practically discernible in the real world.

    Is it appropriate, given these things are placed in cars and whatnot, if we have invested in taking the time to do this tuning, to apply adhesive silicone to the coils in their exacted states? Also, what setting were you on with those measures? And can you refer me to the HAM book on where the harmonics should be? I thought I had purchased a pre-built kit, but realized I did not. My IC7000 is in the shop, and feel, that with the solder station and careful effort, I can likely assemble it myself. But I have to admit, there is a lot of tweaking I am witnessing in these videos. I want to thank you for the time you have invested in this series that even gave me a snowball's chance in hell of getting this close to correct. 73 KJ5ECS

    Last time I took a Sawyer filter on a hike, it didn't work. Not a single drop of water would pass through it. I'd used it on another hike, but the water I filtered wasn't particularly bad, as I recall. I'd only used the filter on that one occasion since backwashing it. So it seems that storing these filters in a slightly used condition can lead to clogging. Therefore, I am not a fan. If you have to backwash every time you use them to avoid clogging then they require too much maintenance for me.

  • @thequarantinecatholic

  • @gravijta936
    @gravijta936 Před 5 dny

    Since you've run water through the 2nd filter, you cannot let it freeze or it will be ruined. As the water inside freezes, it expands and creates gaps in the fibers, which could allow bacteria to pass through. They can be kept in freezing conditions as long as they have never been used.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man Před 5 dny

      After this test, I backflushed the Sawyer Mini three times with tap water, pushed 3x air through it to get most water out, and then put it in the food dehydrator together with the test samples. So in theory it should be completely dry again after 48 hours near human body temperature and constant air flow. But you´re mentioning an important point: If filter is wet don´t let it freeze. Manuel; DL2MAN

    • @gravijta936
      @gravijta936 Před 5 dny

      @@dl2man I'd be curious to know if that actually works. It was my understanding that the fibers are so close together that it's virtually impossible to get all the water out. If it works, I might give it a go so I can stop sleeping with mine every winter lol.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man Před 5 dny

      Hi, I have a original life straw and a off brand copy. Both sealed and never used. Problem with those types of filters is: They are intended to be used with your mouth to drink directly from a water source. I´m not a fan of this, as water sources might not be available constantly along the way, and I´d like to fill up my water containers, once I´m at a water source. There´s no way to do that with a life straw. You can just drink with it. Other downside of those straw type filters: They work with the same technology as the Sawyer Mini (hollow fibre membrane tube bundles) and should be tested before actual use. And to do that you´d need to use the "syringe trick" I did with the Ahlstrom filter. However: In real world, clean side could be contaminated anyway as the function of those filters is to put your mouth to it and the bacteria from your mouth can grow and contaminate the clean side.

    Hello Manuel, thank you for your new video and of course also for responding to the wishes regarding SSB contacts. Of course, I know that the (tru)SDX was not designed for SSB operation and that the signal processing in SSB is done in a completely alternative way. I think it worked great for that. Congratulations on your successful deployment. So far I only have three contacts in SSB with the (tru)SDX. The audio reports weren't particularly good. My QSO partners thought there was something wrong with my microphone. There was talk of “distortions” and “harsh” audio on my part. What I noticed, however, is that the sound is also extremely different on the reception side. In your video, for example, the IC-705 reproduced your audio extremely well and others, despite the good field strength, didn't reproduce it so well. Thank you Manuel for sharing this emergency radio test with us. Good job. I'm continuing to learn CW... but I don't expect to get an accident-free CW QSO this year. I'm already working hard on myself and I'm probably not a natural at it. ;-) All the best and stay healthy, 73.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man Před 14 dny

      In fact it was designed for SSB Operation (with lowered expectations regarding quality). I also think it works great ! Fair point with your comment on "reception side". Most of my feedback yesterday was "modulation good" or even "super", however, one OM said it was "dull" or "muffled", don´t know the correct translation (missing high pitch), so he concluded, that would be the problem of low readability, when S/N Ratio drops. From mic tests I could also see, that mic sensitivity and speaking distance need to match your current setup. And last but not least: Don´t be afraid to make mistakes in CW. I´ve put my own listening and sending mistakes in my edits on purpose. Just to show: I´m also not a professional and we all make mistakes. A good CW Partner will understand, what you want to send and help you by leading you through QSO and repeat when needed. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
