- I sampled an old Yamaha Portasound 280 and wrote this music with Impulse Tracker 2.14 on my 90 Mhz IBM computer. Module size about 690 kb, but I multi-sampled all sounds since the big strength with the Yamaha Portasound 280 and all lo fi FM devices are the beautiful crispiness of lower notes. Oh and sorry for the unsynced strobing monitor...
Assuming you're the same Simon Stålenhag, I've been a fan of your paintings for some time now. And now I'm a fan of your music as well!
I'm the same person. Glad to have you as a fan!
+Walter White They're digital. Photoshop and wacom
Why not go traditional?
Really wish you'd make an album/series of these. Could watch this all day.
Simon, I have to say: I'm very impressed with your work. It is consistently awe inspiring, terrifying, tranquil and beautiful. This music is yet another testament to how talented you are. Keep up the good work!
i feel like a thousand of these views are mine. What a great song. Wish there was more, but i cant stop listening to this song
This song makes me feel like I'm in a rocket ship made out of ham. It's a nice feeling..
Oh wow! Simon Stålenhag! I bought one of your prints. Awesome art and now I see retro tech and cool music... You're an awesome guy.
Why are there a whole lot more likes for this... ??? Incredible stuff... Just stumbled across scrolling... Now im a fan... 😆🤩👍
WOOOOW ! perfect.
PSS280 was my first keyboard, in this time I didn't know about Amiga/PC trackers...
This is beautiful, really. Thanks for uploading this.
Impulse Tracker, my childhood 🥰
Reminds me some old Royksopp vibes. Weird kind of inner sentiment. Beautifull melodies. Scandinavian magic :)
I really like the sound of this! It's got a sort of Daft Punk feel to it, almost similar to that of Voyager. Great job! ^_^
A few decades ago I used to superimpose some timbres like violin (39) on the same sound to make a chorus-like effect. Chords sounded very much cooler that way. Unfortunately, the PSS-280 low polyphony didn`t allow good chords with many cool superimpositions like (41+41) or (25+25) if I remember well. Cheers!
Every time imgur posts all your art, I link this video in the comments. The art's nice, but honestly this is my favorite thing you ever did.
+Ullur Valdisson That's awesome. Much appreciated!
Simon Stålenhag Oh yeah, and now that I have the cash, I just bought your books. :V
If you ever make a chiptune/tracker music album I'm all over that shit.
Unbelieveable. I did the same with pss280 years ago, when I failed with finding ANY samples for my modules, but the quality of the outcome was so much tragic when compared to this
the world needs more artist, like this.
or not?
Never heard you before, but wow this is great. Has a deep serious mood while still being very chill. I'll look for more of your work.
Nice song man ! Btw the unsync effect on the screen is cool, thought it was composited at first. Love your paintings so much also :D
+Titank Production Thanks!
I wouldn't say I know all that much about music on a technical level, but I like the abundance of 'HOO's on display here.
is there anything you can't do? :)
Simon Stålenhag is big brain
Incredible sounds Simon
Your works always have a roomy nostalgic feel to them.
Really hope you get back to these. The old sequencer aesthetic is a lost art
Tres 1990s, neighbor. Makes a fellow feel young again! :)
So mesmerising!🤩
Damn dude i didn't know you made music! I love it! :D I even got a couple of your paintings on the wall.
This is great to listen to while coding
stalenhag you've got to be by far one of my favorite artists/musicians I can't wait to see more
Absolutely stunning. More, more,more
It's amazing. You are fantastically talented!
this is complete awesomeness! great job!
Hey Simon, this is really good stuff. I love your work, it's very therapeutic.
Absolutely loving this piece.
Wow! Just found you surfing while tripping. Love the art and the music. Your great man!
Just amazing!
Gotta say, this is sounding mighty fine!
I also saw your artwork for the first time today, and I'm already a huge fan. As a fellow artist, I can only hope to one day be as good as you. Keep it up!
holy crap this is amazing, cant wait for more!
still good! still coming back!
this is life changing
You are awesome and weird, man. I dig your intuition and dedication. Keep it real
beautiful! please make more :)
Cool stuff! The sampling for the Impulse Tracker makes the sound of the PSS 280 a bit different, of course more chip tuney, great! I also like the classic DOS booting up of IT! :)
make more music like this, it gives me goosebumps when I listen to great music like this!
I already like your graphics very much, based on one track I love your music as well!
+Render Wood THanks!
You have to make more of these sometime! Amazing stuff.
ZOMG when I grow up I wanna be like you...ahahah great work!
+cronosu2 Why wait till you grow up? ;)
This is so cool
wonderful computer music. amazingly talented you are
This is awesome (:
I like this!
This is amazing!
Very cool!
Nice musical track well created.
I love the user interface on the MIDI application. I think there are a group of pre-GUI applications with user interface's can't be improved upon with GUI implementations. This may be one of them. I also liked the music.
this is good
the monitor strobe is as aesthetic as this track
This is very, very cool. Music is well done. I personally do enjoy retro-style music from time to time.
I saw your artwork for the first time today and I must say I am now a fan. Beautiful, beautiful work. TOTALLY my style. I love it! I hear you do storyboards and concept art as well? I may be interested in hiring you for that at some point for one of my feature films.
-Nick
I was waiting for the red goo to take over your computer and sprout tentacles. When does that happen?
Haha It's of screen!
Listen to those keyboard keys clack, beautiful.
This would make Aphex proud.
Your paintings are amazing, It is part of the book, right? SO you are painter, writer and musician? O_O wow
Nice!
Please tell me you've made more! This was great
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
woo! go! go! ^^
Bra grejer!
Palla att du är tung på musik OCKSÅ. Får ju mindervärdeskomplex. Haha.
Blir nostalgisk av datorn. Och imponerad av musiken. Nice!
Väldigt bra asså!
amazing man, did you make it with any noticeable major influences or just made the piece purely of how you felt was right?
Really good music dude ! Does it faire use DRM ?
put more vlogs out, you got over 30,000 on your first thats amazing
Det här är så jävla ballt
After listening to ripple dot extra for some time now it's awesome to hear some more of your stuff! I think my favorite composition of yours is Fluvial Beat Deposits. Any more songs in production or is this a one-off?
Thanks!, there's actually something new on the way - stay tuned!
Beautiful music. This was my first keyboard. Do you have the sampled library still?
Way cool. Can I donate? I rather like the "flash" and if we're up to me, I'd have all screens go back to having a glass panel with a "flash" option for monitors
I thought you were going for a deblierate music video vibe with the strobing monitor XD
The benefit of a crt monitor running at odds with the camera:)
is there a download link for the module file?
What music sequencing program is that which runs nicely with the old vintage PSS-280?
Please please put this on your Spotify.
Could you possibly upload the module file somewhere?
How did you learn how to do this? Did you just mess around enough to get a handle on it, or do you have some formal music education?
How many samples for each instrument?
Hey Simon, would you happen to have a Soundcloud or something I could download this from?
+TozWozEar Someone posted this sauce on reddit. soundcloud.com/simon-st-lenhag/fluvial-beat-deposits
Andrew Agnew-Iler Hey, thanks for the sauce. You have yourself a nice Thanksgiving.
Hello, can you do more of these?
+feoleb It's very time consuming but I'm trying my hardest to squeeze in more hours in front of the old pentium. So we'll see.
+Simon Stålenhag well thanks I appreciate it
+Simon Stålenhag hey, you ever think of doing a patreon for art/music?
When digital had hair...
Simon Stålenhag
i think it's only right u make a soundcloud and make more great music
