Hey Ian, would you be able to go over the difference in the Highland X2 bag options? I think you may have touched on it around the mid 6 minute mark. I haven't seen much information or pictures/videos comparing the small or medium options.
I just bought a Tuareg that I won't be picking up until the end of winter.

If you read the manual on those yamaha grips you will find that they have more power settings beyond the three lights there is a high and low range. the manual spells out the button pressing sequence to bump them up into high range for colder weather. I am Canadian and I find them warm enough near freezing temperatures.

  • @motorcyclingdetectorist6053

I am picking up the Tusk system soon, and will go with Medium on the top bag for the space. I am also considering the Adventure Spec luggage racks, as they are lighter and work well with a system like Tusk to keep the bags off the plastics. As always, thanks for sharing.

I agree on the tires. i was one of the first to get a dual venture and I combined that with a rallz rear on my 500exc adv build. Now on my 1090, which I do take on some long trips with 14 hour days, I have settled on the Motoz adventure rear with a Dunlop trailmax mission front.

So thankful for the in depth options and walking through the utilities. I've seen your hard bag vs. soft bag so this was a plus. As a cruiser rider that loves to hike and camp - ADV is calling strongly and the T7 fits the budget but couldn't wrap my head around outfitting it as a pragmatist. Nice summary! P.S. Although this endorsement was for TUSK products, what are your thoughts on Outback Motortek products for the T7?

Great vid... for the heated grips, they have I think 3 power draw settings that allows for multiple bike installs (smaller cc to larger). Are you sure it's at the highest power setting, I've heard lots of times they are installed, and still at the lowest power draw setting.

Thanks for the video, Ian. I mounted your recommended MotoZ tires just before riding the Smokey Mountains 500 three weeks ago. I was riding with a larger group, but hanging closely with a buddy riding his fairly new R1250GS. The ride contained some challenging rock gardens and miles of dirt roads that have not been maintained in years with miles of washouts. He was riding a 50/50 tire. These tires allowed me to keep pace with him. I feel that these tires equaled his traction control and rider aids. I'm thrilled with the tires.
For luggage, I went with Giant Loop Coyote and Tillamook, and mounted them directly with no protection. This did a decent amount of damage to the plastics on both sides of the seats. Did you do anything to protect your plastics, or are you just going to live with the wear? I'm thinking repair the paint, and wrap it with 3M vinyl or install AdventureSpec top rack and luggage guard. Thoughts?

I installed the Rally Seat and took the bike out for a 3 hour ride yesterday. I'm 5' 11" and I had no issue with seat height, I felt fine with having the ability to dab my feet. The Rally Seat is 100% more comfortable than the stock seat, but what I liked most about the Rally Seat was how much easier the extra height makes transitioning form being seated to standing. This alone would make the seat worthwhile for me.

Thanks for the video! Regarding de Dualventure tire, how is it on noise for you and your long rides? I bought them in size 19 for my GSA (with Rallz on the rear) and had to take them off due to the considerable noise they generated. On long travels it was unbearable @50-80 MPH, could not communicate with my pillion. This was a real unexpected surprise because of how they present it. Maybe it was the tire size and on 21's is better? I had the Rallz on other bikes and I am used to the knobby sound/noise plus I am a fan of the Motoz tires.

Request for a future video: Security. Do you leave a laptop or tablet in your soft luggage? I am a road rider looking to get an adventure bike. Soft luggage has some definite advantages, but I think I would want to combine soft panniers with a small hard top box for keeping valuables secured during scenic stops, restaurants, etc.

    Here's my list
    SRC rear rack
    Tail tidy
Outback Motortech crash bars (oem's are crap)
    Pivot pegs
LED indicators - most are fine, i used ones from SR Moto
    Moto Z desert ht tires
    Acerbis x factor handguards
Camel ADV 1 finger clutch arm
Mosko moto reckless 80 luggage - its big when you need it but you don't have to pack it all when you don't need it
Flash tuner - you can set it for mpg on commutes or long hwy stretches and switch it to performance off road
    AXP Racing XTREME skid plate
shorty levers - I got mine from Off-the-Road
AND - very soon - Safari tanks in Austrailia is coming out with a dakar style low slung tank. Its currently in testing & I let the cat out before they wanted but I CANT WAIT!
Also, a second set of wheels should be completed in a week or so by Woody's Wheel works so I can keep 2 types of tire sets at the ready

once again solid info based on personal experience and more
For my Tracer 7, same engine, no crash bars I got the Yamaha Rubber Engine Guard, can recommend. When the bike fell on to pavement only the engine and hand-"guard" took damage, no scratch on the fairing or anywhere else.

Hello Ian, Thank you for creating such a wide variety of helpful videos. I was one of the lucky ones in Canada to get the first batch of Tenere700’s 3 years ago. I love it. Absolutely no issues with it.
I noticed you have an aftermarket clutch arm. What brand and does it help? Would you recommend a longer clutch arm?
Keep up the great videos. Thanks, Ryan.

I watched a video yesterday about long term review on a Pan America and it was said that when you change the tires from street to real off road tires you HAVE to take the bike back to the Stealership so they can adjust your suspension!!!😳😳😳😳 Can you believe this? The source was MCN !!!

Could you please remind us every or on many videos what height and leg inseam you are? This is a common problem with 99.9% of all reviewers.
As saying, "I do not have enough leg room" means nothing for me to judge. Are you 5'8", 6', 6'2",... leg inseam 32", 36",...?
Or put it in the info under the videos. I watch so many different videos and cannot remember everyone's dimensions.
I am considering buying a Vstrom 650 and have watched one of your reviews a few times and you mentioned the lack of leg room for you. I cannot remember your dimensions.
